  • We are pleased to introduce the MAX-21XZ-B Ver. II for drivers who demand performance close to that of our flagship model, the O.S. SPEED 21XZ-B spec. II but at a more affordable price. Many top drivers around the world choose O.S., relying on the renowned linear acceleration to get the best power at the right time. We developed the MAX-21XZ-B Ver. II based on the O.S. SPEED 21XZ-B Spec. II but adopted a single-needle carburetor for easier adjustment. We use the same piston/liner and connecting rod from the flagship model, the O.S. SPEED version, in the new MAX-21XZ-B Ver. II. The crankshaft has the Tungsten counter weights similar to the O.S. SPEED, but without the ultimate DLC coating, offering superb value for money.
The newly developed 22B2 carburetor, which determines the high R.P.M. characteristics of MAX-21XZ-B Ver. II, gives first priority to ease of use. A 7mm diameter carburetor reducer is included as a standard accessory. The low, centre of gravity outer head is anodized in the traditional O.S. blue color.
This latest engine in the O.S. off-road range is the next step in O.S. market leadership by offering improved performance and technology at the right price.
    SPECIFICATIONS
    Displacement: 3.49cc 0.213cu.in
    Bore: 16.27mm/ 0.641in.
    Stroke: 16.8mm/ 0.661in.
    Practical RPM: 4,000~42,000r.p.m.
    Power Output: 2.65ps/33,000rpm /2.61hp/33,000rpm.
    Weight: 355g/ 12.52oz.

Some from what I’ve seen, this engine is OS’s updated, longstroke version of the v-spec. The v-spec (both speed and max models) is a short-stroke engine and makes really really good power for the time period it was released in. This engine is the “max” version of the updated v-spec and the speed spec ll is the fancy version with the dlc crank and ceramic bearings. From my experience, the OS engines don’t lose their pinch quickly or if you get them too hot. They do break in very quick though, both of my Flashpoint FP02 (probably the best budget engine/pipe combo you can get. $380 for an OS based engine and pipe and the engine has a ceramic rear bearing and dlc coated crank) had gotten rid of their mechanical pinch in less than a gallon and the initial break in was 8 tanks for both. Both engines have good compression and hold a very stable idle even after 30-45 minutes of running. It seems like OS has designed their piston and sleeves to have a perfect seal for really good compression but not have the pinch of the sleeve be so tight that it unnecessarily stresses the connecting rod. As for the non coated crank, I haven’t had any experience with OS’s newer steel cranks so I can’t give much info on that. If you’re looking for a strong budget engine, the Flashpoint FP02 is literally the best thing you can buy. You get and OS speed spec ll with an OS pipe and header for $380

Tell him better off getting flashpoint fp02. Comes with better bearings and dlc crank. Fp02 might have more crank timing to but not sure.

I have the same engine.. do you have to use the ventury? Obviously for fuel economy you would want to have it in but I was curious if I took it out would I get more power? I dunno what do you think?

I wouldn't call $350+ cheap, maybe when compared to an os speed.
    But it is a screamer.
