Thank You! Guess I don’t have to set aside a week to do this one. But, as everything with our Chevelle and my old fat bod, every 10 minute job is only one broken bolt away from becoming an 8 hour Ordeal!! You saved me, and thanks for taking the time to video and post! Smile
The first Heater Core I replaced, I'm still cursing that bolt . A few days later I was telling a friend and he said , You DID WHAT ?? Just pull the box from the inside, that cover in the engine bay don't need to come off.. That was 40 years ago.. 🤣😂
66 gto...i just went thru hell getting the box out....cursed tha a hile engineer who designed these heaters....my fender well is steel.....only gained 1/2 inch after unbolting it🙈😲🙈😲
Why bother taking the stamping off in the engine compartment? If the core is mounted to the heater box inside, why not just remove that to swap the heater core? Yes, a few nuts on the firewall, but would save you from having to remove/reinstall the horrid bolt under the fender.
I need help I bought a 66 Chevy Chevelle. with no VIN number I was told there's a hidden VIN number on the heater box . I have half of it on the tag on the firewall I just need the other half that's hidden somewhere please
you will not find a hidden partial VIN under heater box on 66 - this practice started in 1968. Partial VIN's can be found on the engine stamp pad, transmission, on top of the frame under front doors, on top of frame drivers side rear section under trunk - frame stamps are extremely hard to read after 50+ years - you need a mirror and flashlight.
@@MarkMeldrumChevelleHunters thank you I had an officer tell me he will certify it with the signed title and the stamp on the fire wall but he said not many people would . I'm going to get it with the mirror and flashlight THANK YOU
Can the same method that you used to replace your heater core be used on a 1970 cutlass? I just watched a video where a guy had to replace his heater core in a 70-71 Chevelle and removed the entire dash.
I cant say for sure but I do not see why not, Also, as mentioned by Garrett below - you can leave the box on the firewall since you need to pull the heater core out from inside the car.

I understand, keeps getting harder and harder for me to work on these cars but at least they are larger than modern cars.
Your the only video that addresses that top bolt....all the forums...gto...i read only mention the bottom🤔🤔🤔

Can you remove the INSIDE heater box without removing the bold under the fender? Thank you.
I believe you can but I would remove the box. Most times you will find a mouse nest or a lot of debris inside that box

you cant pull the heater core box out inside the car without removing the 2 bolts and 5 cap nuts
Would this be the same process for a 1969 Malibu?
Absolutely
Is there any sealant to be applied during installation?
you could put some sealant around the box if the old sealant is not pliable any more.
