I know it's a little early, but I hope this video helps when your RP5 arrives in a couple weeks! If you have any other questions about set up, leave them below, and I'll do my best to help.
Awesome, this will be a very nice handheld for your first. It doesn't come set up with games like some of the cheaper ones do, but the screen and performance are worth the extra work!
@@bassderekyeah I’ve been researching all the things for setting it up to run all the games and emulators I’m looking to play. Very excited to have all my stuff to-go in a handheld.
Great video Derek, the camera autofocus was off a little with hand movements. Not sure if a fixed focus would be an improvement. . The guide would be excellent though if I decide to get a RP5
Out of curiosity have you tried the 3.5mm headphone port on the RP5? No reviews I've been able to find mention it and I'm really hoping it doesn't have any crackling or audio issues. This is going to be replacing my RG353M which the headphone port is unusable sadly. Loving the channel BTW, Definitely earned a new sub.
Thank you for such a thorough setup video. I’ve ordered my retro pocket 5 16 bit and can’t wait for its arrival! I will be sure to follow your setup to get the most out of my experience. I have previously used a retro pi and got my artwork/metadata through Stephen Selph scraper. What is the best way to do this on a retro pocket 5?? Thanks again for the video 😊
If you use ES-DE it can do the scraping itself. I used Skraper and moved files around to match the way ES-DE expects it (in downloaded_media directory).
This video ws awesome!! Thank you and please keep posting. If possible could you please share the links to apk software's you had ready for the retroid pocket 5.
So hey what's the reason for wanting to install Linux on it? Also does it still dual boot (Android/Linux)? Am a complete beginner to android gaming, just have some small experience with the older Linux based handhelds and VERY minor android emulation (like NES and SNES), and recently got both the Odin 2 AND RP4P (got them for cheap thus both it was), so this is new to me. Some emulators run better? Portmaster? Frontends? Any specific reason besides these possible ones? Edit: also what's that shell? I like the hexagons; reminds me of Dodonpachi.
It can dual boot linux on an SD card, yes. Linux typically provides a more pre-setup frontend and emulator environment so it feels more 'console-like,' there's also some emulators like xemu for xbox on linux that aren't on android (though xbox performance is pretty poor), and portmaster as you mentioned. I think for many it's 'easier' and less fragmented than android.
Hey brother can u try the newest version of warzone mobile 4.0, it literally has list of 4000 devices unsupported devices, please make. Video on it or atheist share your review
Wait, so you put say es de on the sd card transfering config files to a new device easily. Does that mean when you install es de apk on the new device, mostly everything is set up already? So if you didn't install it on a new device and wanted to transfer your config file, cant you just transfer the data?
When you first set up ES-DE you choose a location for the data directory. If you put that directory on the SD card and later move that SD card to another Android device (or copy the directory to a new sd card), your settings will carry over.
@@bassderek Any recommendations on where to get all the apks at once? Like Ninite but for Emulation Apps maybe (apart from ES-DE, since we have to pay for it)
Depends on what systems you want to play. The PS2 library can get big so I would say at least 512gb. But sometimes it’s also nice to not have too many choices, heh. 1TB is of course great, but usually 512 is cheaper per gigabyte.
This was a review unit so I can't comment on delivery times. My RP Mini took about 11 days via 4PX shipping, but there was also a Chinese holiday that may have delayed it.
Seems kinda weird to make a setup guide, but skip the Vita emulator because it needs "extra steps". That kinda seems like the exact sort of thing a setup guide should cover. Do you have a seperate video that details setting up the Vita emulator?
Fair. Unfortunately I ran out of time as I was borrowing this unit and had to send it on. I will look into making a Vita guide and demonstration when my retail unit arrives in a couple weeks!

Definitely appreciate a set up video so I can process it before I get mine. This will be my first retro handheld so I’m excited.

I can't wait until mine arrives, thanks for the video. I'm new to the whole Retroid ecosystem.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks BassDerek! Loving the videos! 🍻🤘🏼🔥
Thanks for your continued support!

Thanks, I did change to using manual focus on the RP4 Pro vs RP5 video (it was actually filmed after this one).
@bassderek Good to hear 👍 just watched that video too. All good content, GL with the channel.

I didn’t think to try but should have. I’ll have my retail unit soon (just shipped today) and will try to remember to check.

Great Idea, I have added links in the description!
Might get one for Christmas
Nice!
Hey dude. Great video. Is there a place I can grab all the BIOS files I might beed? Like, a bundle type thing? Many thanks.
Thanks, unfortunately I can’t share that, but Google search and archive.org are your friends!
Awesome 🙂
You’re awesome! 😎
Haven't owned a handheld since the first psp, I'm really interested in grabbing one of these ones they're out next week.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed as long as you know how to find games and get them on the device!
@ I’m sure I’ll figure my way around that part, plus there’s a lot of good android games too so that’s good as well

Unfortunately yes…

It doesn't work (at least on the review unit, maybe it will change later) - I checked it on another review I did on the Retro Handhelds channel.
Hi is there any option in the frontend to enable bezels for each console thanks
That option would be in the emulators rather than the frontend. If it’s a game you play via retroarch you can add bezels there.
@ first and foremost thanks for replying so basically I need the bezels in the Retroarch folder

@bassderek so no different from just copy and pasteing?

What size SD card do you suggest getting for the RP5?
The bigger the better, I would suggest 1TB or more

Copyright legalities, likely.
how long did the delivery take ?

Does it play OG Xbox roms?
No. Android does not have the Xbox emulator. As of now only PC, Mac, and Linux can use Xemu.
Yes. The RP5 can dual-boot Android and Linux, so you can emulate Xbox games, but performance makes most ROMs barely playable.
Thanks guys. Considering whether to get this or splurge a little more on a steam deck
If you want Xbox then go steam deck. Especially since some of those Xbox games have pc ports.

is this device capable of bypassing battery while docked like odin 2?
Yes
Not sure on that one. The review unit also still has some charging issues that won’t be present in retail units.
Ayn Odin did it years ago
Not with OLED!
How much?
$220
