    Love more than you know that you cover the financials. I despise that people expect sewists to do pro bono

    My cats don't sit on top of my machine, but they do occasionally get curious and hop on my sewing table to sniff my sewing machine and fabric while I'm sewing something 😄

    LOVE this fabric and the dress is so elegant! Spooky is the cutest supervisor ever! The shenanigans and “strict supervision” is too cute!

    I was taught to baste the seam and iron it open before sewing in the zipper. Then taping or pinning the zipper centered on the seam. This way the fabric meets over the zipper to kinda hide the zipper (and two sides match up). The goal was, of course, to get the zipper perfectly aligned with the seam 🙂
    Since I can’t recall seeing it done this way on the sewing channels I watch, I am wondering if this is not taught anymore? I think I learned it in Home Ec. in the mid 60‘s.
    P.S. I love the fabric and the dress and was so happy to see you hand sew the hem. This is the way that I was taught was correct for just about every hem😁.

      I'm more of a one sided placket type of gal, I've done it the middle way but find the one sided placket suits me better? and yes I love handsewing the hem, it is one of my favorite parts.

    What a cute little dress. The fabric makes this something fun but neat. You always do a great job of finishing those details. It makes such a difference to the finished look.

    Oh my gosh this looks so cute! I love that tie detail. I think it probably wouldn’t be too hard to draft if one isn’t blessed to find the pattern!

    Your beautiful dress looks lovely on you - the style, fabric and buttons all work together perfectly. Also, I’m happy to sew for people as a gift but not when they expect it. Someone said recently I could sew something I was wearing for them. It was a demand. I said I already did a full time job plus this. She said ‘that’s ok, I don’t need it till the summer. You’ve got till then! ’ 🙄(It’s not gonna happen!) 💗🌸

      Lol it is so funny I've yet to really have someone expect me to sew for them but the day it happens they're getting a heavy dose of sass

    Very cute and springy. I just bought a vintage Vogue with a tie front. My cat wants to sit on the fabric I'm sewing . I've given her a chair with fabric scraps piled on it.

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  5 місяців тому

      haha spooky likes to play in most fabric scraps but when I cut silk it is her favorite and I have a silk scrap pile I store and use to try to keep her from the silk I'm cutting lol

    My cat, Luna has two places where she likes to perch while I’m sewing: her cat tree (which is right next to my sewing table) and my shoulder 😐 She’s still tiny for a three year old kitty, so she doesn’t weigh anything. But my shoulders bear many scars from her. I call her my parrot 🦜. I also wanted to say that I love that technique for cutting out pockets! Why have I never thought to just fold the fabric twice and cut it out once! 🤯 As always, this project came out amazing and I really dig your use of color

      Omg that is so cute, I love cats that sit on shoulders! and yes I am always trying to do the least amount of cutting possible lol. Thank you!

    Amazing work, looks beautiful and like such a breezy wear -- I feel like the tie would be a comfortable "hug" and make me less conscious about buttons at the waistline

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  5 місяців тому

    This dress is so cute! And you look great! I would love to be able to have a 1950's dress, but were do you find the patterns? And then the harder part (finding a right🥺😭 size)!? Thank you for sharing it all P.S I like when you were talking about the cost to make. The materials are ok, but the labor not so good. Then also when you said about doing things for free. I have made a few clothing things (years and years ago.) But I do do other craftings. And I remember making a very large crochet afghan for a person at my husbands work, (he said he would pay for me to do it) Then later after, all he talked about was the cost!? Really I made what he wanted the size he needed and in the colors he asked for, but it was like my time was nothing?! Sorry I just was listening to you and was thinking, your so right. Our time does cost! Thank you again, very much 💜

    5 minutes in & I know I'm going to love this, but I have to ask a question. I'm making a dress for my daughter & in all my decades of sewing, I've never relocated a zipper. Is there anything special I need to do to move it to the back from the side?

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  6 місяців тому +1

      Make sure to add seam allowance if you forget it it becomes a problem, otherwise it is just as simple as adding a seam where you want the zip!

    • @maribrown1361
      @maribrown1361 6 місяців тому

      @@HaleyMarieVintage since there's already a center back seam, all I have to do is close up the side? It's really that simple? I love your dress!! It's so bright & springy 💐

    • @maribrown1361
      @maribrown1361 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the help! I moved the zipper to the back & it's perfect!! And thank you for repeating that you understitch the facings. I heard you in my head as I was adding those facings & understitched them to help keep it clean.
