I was their age when this film was released, it saved my life. Should either of the guys ever read this thread, thank you. You made me realise I wasn’t alone. .
I watched this alone in my room aged 18 on VHS in about 1996 I can’t being to tell you so important this movie was for me, I love this movie and all of the actors in it, it’s holds such a special place in my heart and over the years I watched it with gay friends who are younger and never seen it and always moved them. The U.K. is very different in attitudes towards gay people now days but in 1996 things weren’t so easy yet.
He was lucky to have a mum like that. She was tough. Would fight to the death for her son. I love the way she looks around at the people watching them when they’re dancing at the end. It’s like, ‘yeah that’s my son, i love him to pieces and will fight any one of ya’
I am 77. I saw this film years ago, but for all of my living, and experience I didn't understand the depth of it. The video's opened my eyes. Thanks to the writer and actors. The movie is a beautiful thing!
One of the best teen love stories evah. The boys, and the actors who play them (Glen Berry and Scott Neal) are excellent but, you know, it's Linda Henry's Sandra who holds the movie and the story together. Without her strength and love, the boys wouldn't make it. We all need an emotional rock in our lives and she's theirs.
One of the most beautiful movies that is sadly so little known and way too underappreciated. I'll never forget catching it by accident on TV as a teen and I had to buy my copy in secret much later. This film is exactly what it says on the tin: a Beautiful Thing!
This and Get Real were my favorite Coming Out films when I grew up! Even went to Thamesmead to see where this was filmed and to Basingstoke where Get Real was filmed. Apparently, the building, where the main characters lived, has been demolished a few years ago. Heartstopper reminds me a bit of Beautiful Thing and Get Real, but with an overall more positive mindset. If you liked those two films, you'll absolutely love Heartstopper. BTW: Thamesmead was also used as filming location for "A Clockwork Orange". The lake where one of the Droogs is pushed into is the same where Ste is sitting and crying when Sandra meets him.
Out every show or movie being remade this is one that should and must be remade so the newer generation understand the struggle and the path that so many movies and shows and artist made si we could be here
On a more positive note, when Sandra first takes Steven in and he and Jamie share that moment referring to the magazine, I thought that part was both cute and funny, anyone agree? Hello? hello! Lol
A film I saw at the movies when my secret was getting too heavy. It helped me a lot to reveal myself to others and to feel better I love this film I keep an infinite ans sweat memory ♥️♥️
I think gay films made in the era before our mainstreaming had more heart and feeling. Or maybe it was the feeling of solidarity of being in a theater with a group of people who could empathize with what you and they were going through. This movie was so special because of the touchstone it has in my timeline, brunches, dinner parties and dancing at the club. It was a time I began constructing my family of choice. Community meant something back then.
I've only watched this a few times now, but somehow, I missed the amount of abuse Steven had been dealing with and it hit me pretty hard in this clip. I just hope it wasn't much worse. Cause due to recent personal events, I may not be able to handle it right now. I mean, Here I am, 42 years old and it's making me wanna cry. I''m not trying to sound wimpy, just being honest. Thank you for the post.
@@M-familytv thank you for that compassionate comment, I'm impressed considering how judgemental this platform can be, I'm a 42 year old bisexual male, btw
@@tonyb0904 I'm a 61 year old gay man. Nothing to hide or be ashamed of. You have heart and feelings, and are all the stronger for it. Remember, anyone can close off their emotions. It takes strength and heart to embrace their emotions. Big hugs.
I first watched this film at the Greenwich cinema, just around the corner from the Gloucester pub. Everyone in the audience laughed,as the 180 bus, does not drive up that road to get to it.
This movie helped me a lot in my very lonely teenage years. As one of the few gay movies of the period with a good ending-- it gave me hope. Hope that I'm still holding onto....
I remember I would download all the gay movies I could around 2008/2009, on my new MacBook, such good times, now that I think of it, that's the equivalent of a gay teen in 2022 streaming gay movies from 2010😳😳😳 I used to think 1996 was decades ago but it was barely 12 years ago !!!!!!
Never heard of this film and didn't look at the title and year of release until after i watched, but why did I think that one guy was Tom Holland??? Was so confused 😂
Go see the movie? Do you think it's at the theatre? Lmso... I just said it is a great film, I have two copies as well as framed posters and two copies of the soundtrack, one a U.S. press and one UK pressing. I was suckered into the video out of interest in the film. Be assured that it won't happen twice. The song gives me dry heaves. "Go see the movie" smh lol!!

This is one of the movies that helped me finally except myself as gay after 50 plus years of denial. Gays of today don't know how lucky they are.
