I feel a bit ashamed saying this, but the boom and echo of the parking garage acoustics, sounds badass. There's so much stank behind those shots and unison bass hits.
Another option that our bass tech recommended was playing on a regular practice pad with regular sticks, but turn your wrists over and make that same rotary motion you would on a bass drum. He did that and he ended up marching top bass at crown in 07 and 06 i believe.
say for instance i wanted to get really good at bass drum in order to march it for a drum corps am i fine just practicing matched on a pad or should i actually find a way to practice vertically
It's one of those things you have to get used to, and once you do, you feel badass cause you're a guy who's 6 foot something drumming as low as someone 5'1. I used to hate it but I got used to it and it makes pings and lefty pings easier for me haha
@nike22296 Not really a matter of whats cooler. Its tradition. and your "level" doesn't exist in DCI because you'll more than likely never march a corps in your life.

the disappointed "comon." after the first rep? i felt that
I have one of those red snares now. They're pretty dope. Got it used from Yamaha.
jeez dude....they always have the best licks.....always have tasty clean rolls...love it!!
that looks so uncomfortable for the really tall snare

1) Tom Aungst didn't write this book, Collin McNutt did.
2) "Tom Aungst" is two words.
i was at this show, first DCI show ever
@2012Snaredrummer it's not it's james sparling, also rx quad tech and just became madisons quad tech
yes.
Aungst hasn't written for the Cadets in several years, he gives all his time to Dartmouth HS now
he's back!
damn i didnt know Billy Ray Cyrus was the instructor for the Cadets!!!

Practicing on a pad should work fine! I hope you made it
@2012Snaredrummer pretty sure its not cuz he's the caption head for the vanguard cadets right now
modulation at 2:04 is soooo sick.
I didn't hear any modulation.
Snare tech sort of looks like Casey Brohard
It is James Sparling
this is really good book!
Lightning in background when the Demons are up in the beginning...yes
that dude in the gray looks like Brohard from behind
@TheVinnster1 Leg injury or something like that.
I feel like that really tall snare is really uncomfortable when he plays.
Beast mode!
I don't get what youre trying to explain..
HOLY SHIT RIGHT FOOT STEP OFF!!!!!!
I was thinking more of a skinny Billy Ray Cyrus
Woah I don't remember 6 bass drums
Damn...
needs more cow bell
@TheVinnster1 The snare tech killed him for his cowbell
Reminds me of Madison Scouts 2005 lol still awesome :)
@nike22296 Welcome to the cadets.
OMG!
I would absolutely hate marching a drum as low as the tall guy.

eh, i've found left hand shots are easier up high for me
@nike22296

Was not a fan of the two uniform look. Something dis-unifying about the concept,
but they didn't ask me I guess. Thanks for sharing this. Carry on.
the demons litterally got red shoes. our band should get those if we have black tops and red botoms. lol
They are actually spray painted red
Three words: Tom Aungst.
Nathan Aaron what...?
Polo 10k the snare tech
It would be Colin McNutt in 2011. Aungst only came back this past year.
