Almost 40 years ago, I took a class on Isaiah from Abraham Gileadi. He had just published his own translation of Isaiah. He told us that certain words in the text were titles or symbols representing individuals (such as the Savior), peoples, and places. He’d translated the book into English because the original English translations had used synonyms to avoid repeating the same word frequently. (English abhors repetition, which is one of the reasons we have so many words that have the same meanings.) By this use of synonyms, the earlier translators had made it far more difficult to identify the symbolic meanings in the text. The only problem with Gileadi’s translation as originally published, it didn’t contain an index. So, as my term paper for the class, I wrote an index. Today, such a task would be child’s play. But, this was before personal computers were in common use. To produce the index, I read the text dozens of times, looking for and noting the location of certain words. It was a lot of work. The class was my favorite class from BYU.
@@anthonyrippa686 from my understanding it was for his translation of Isaiah but was later reinstated after an apostle saw his writings and said they were the most correct he’d ever seen. Leaders make mistakes. They are just men. The scriptures are full of examples of prophets and leaders erring
Yes, Gileadi is awesome. Since 2018, with the Hope of Israel talk from Pres. and Sister Nelson, I have invested heavily in studying the scriptures. I read Gileadi’s, Skousen, and other books. I have been studying Isaiah’s teachings and it has been amazing. Heavenly Father wants us to study and understand these things. Our mortal experience gives us an special perspective that we have never had before. Brothers and sisters, I bear my testimony that all effort you put to understand the scriptures will bring you more happiness in these world and all eternity. You cannot think Celestial if you don’t know what Celestial thinking is!!! I hope you give it a try!
Look at 2 Nephi 6: 1 - 5 --------- 1 The words of Jacob, the brother of Nephi, which he spake unto the people of Nephi: 2 Behold, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the manner of his holy order, and having been consecrated by my brother Nephi, unto whom ye look as a king or a protector, and on whom ye depend for safety, behold ye know that I have spoken unto you exceedingly many things. 4 And now, behold, I would speak unto you concerning things which are, and which are to come; wherefore, I will read you the words of Isaiah. And they are the words which my brother has desired that I should speak unto you. And I speak unto you for your sakes, that ye may learn and glorify the name of your God. 5 And now, the words which I shall read are they which Isaiah spake concerning all the house of Israel; wherefore, they may be likened unto you, for ye are of the house of Israel. And there are many things which have been spoken by Isaiah which may be likened unto you, because ye are of the house of Israel. 6 And now, these are the words: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people; and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. Question. Jacob said he taught the people the words of Isaiah as requested by Nephi. Why did he take the trouble and work to transcribe and teach it to us in the Book of Mormon? In my opinion, it can't get more clear than that!
Why did he teach Isaiah in the Book of Mormon? Is that what you are asking? What is significant about Isaiah in the Book of Mormon are the parts chosen to be there is my take.
You can do both: accept the prophets and learn the events that will come to pass as prophesied by ISAIAH and I might add if you’re listening to your own prophet Nelson then he has taught us that except we learn to receive personal Revelation we will not be able to survive the events that are to come in these the last days. We do not have to choose one or the other but can be aware and educated by both.
I did my PhD dissertation dissecting the Lord’s servant in Isaiah in order to draw conclusions about leadership. I say that to give context that I spent 3 or 4 years studying this end-time servant in depth. On that basis, I know of no other scholar I trust more when it comes to Isaiah and the Lord’s servant that Gileadi.
Avraham talks of seven layers of Isiah each with covenants which “man” has taken away those covenants. Jewish heaven has seven layers. Does anyone know if these layers of covenants are gateways to the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom?
After years of reading different authors on the Book of Isaiah and getting nowhere, I came across Avraham Gileadi’s translation on the Book of Isaiah and for the first time the lights started coming on. That was in 1989 and from that time on, his insights have changed my spiritual growth in ways that I could not have imagined. As a member of the church for 51 years, besides the Book of Mormon, no other teachings on the last days have had such an impact on me. Avraham Gileadi’s work unlocks the Book of Isaiah for understanding the times we are in.
My father spent my entire teenage years studying Isaiah with Gileadi's guidance. He and I talked about these things all the time. In the years since it has become clear that when it comes to Isaiah's "end-time scenario" it is a great tapestry, an unfolding drama in which we get to participate. Trying to construct a "timeline" I agree, misses the point. Instead, see it as a guide, an almanac for the patterns of prophetic fulfillment and God's intentions for His chosen people. I think when Nephi says that he "likens the scriptures", it is that he is able to see his people and us within the scriptures. It gives clarity on how to ascend towards God, and the trials he requires of us as we progress. I think it is no accident that Pres. Nelson has been adamant about the Church's current role in gathering Israel, on both sides of the veil. Gathering is preparatory to restoration, and marvelous things will take place as we, generation upon generation, progress towards the Lord's return.
Greg your comment about making Isaiah one of the years in come follow me rang true to me. Back during the Old Testament year I decided to treat Isaiah as it’s own standard work, so that I am always reading or studying it
I think k this would be amazing but the problem as he stated many scholars drive the direction the curriculum... Are all the members ready to hear? As a body we may not be able to handle it. Jesus spoke in parables because those who are ready to hear will hear, those who aren't ready it will go over their heads
A few years ago I read Isaiah with Avraham's commentary. And I read all of his books. I learned a lot! Isaiah is very deep ! But today I find that the whole Book of Mormon is my keystone and brings the Spirit like no other book. I'm grateful for Joseph Smith who translated it by the gift of God and I feel like Joseph is the end time servant spoken of in Isaiah. Maybe Joseph will yet get the chance to finish the work he started? I'm sticking with the prophets who have the authority and the church that has the wonderful spirit. We live in exciting times!
For me, I had to read the Book of Mormon a lot of times before Isaiah began to click...even with the Holy Ghost. But now, reading Isaiah is a pleasure. And a special blessing, I can now start digging through confusing books like Ezekiel...I love Isaiah. And the Book of Mormon also has many layers of truth that you can parallel to todays events. I have to say that the Holy Ghost is a dear friend of mine ;) and I discovered early after my baptism the great difference in reading scripture; it was as if a floodlight of discernment came with that gift in reading scripture and discerning the meaning. Since my baptism twenty plus years ago now, I have read all I could get my hands on Skousen, Kimball, Cowley, Clark Hinkley and many many others. I also enjoy Lund, and his bringing history to life with his fictional historical novels! All my reading is church related, as nothing else seems to be rich enough or valuable enough to spend my time and effort reading it. We are so blessed to have the gift of the Holy Ghost!!!
Over the past years I have noticed that the church is scaling back on micro managing everything we do (Come Follow Me, Ministering) Plus Emphasising home centred church and learning to receive our own personal revelation, WHY? Because in the last days we may only have the Holy Ghost to rely upon. I once asked my Sunday school class; what would you do if you no longer had access to the Prophets direction due to collapse of communication systems? Or even access to local leaders? You will need to know how to receive personal direction from God. The General Authorities are trying to teach us this.
Thank You for having him on. Well worth the time. Been reading him for years now. There's a reason so much of Isaiah is in the BoM. When we read the 2 together we get an understanding of both the worldly who reject the BoM will NEVER have. And then we get a better understanding of Daniel's end time prophecies (7-12) and what John was seeing and how they relate. Please have him back.
It has been five years of study with Isaiah. Even a small group that meets weekly. Discussion and seeing all this wonderful information has opened up my mind, the spirit has given me pure intelligence. You have to desire to learn not only his words but Literary structures, history of the Jews, Codes , I feel so blessed not only to know him as a friend but feel blessed to have taken his books and applied myself. All the scriptures have opened up. I have so much more to apply and learn, with President Nelsons admonition to Know the spirit of Jesus Christ. It does take dedication and to enjoy feasting upon his word! Avraham has done all the research for us what a blessing everyone. He has spent many years learning and shares it with those who are willing to learn of the lord Jesus Christ's word.
As a young adult in the late 80's I remember traveling once a week with friends to various locations in the Salt Lake area to Avraham's class on Isaiah as he taught us his interpretations chapter by chapter. I still have my copy of The Book of Isaiah: A New Translation with Interpretive Keys from the Book of Mormon with all the margins filled with my writing down his interpretations. A cherished treasure.❤🙏 So wonderful to hear/see him again.
Greg, thank you for having Avraham Gileadi on your program! Brother Gileadi's 45+ years of work on the subject of identifying the accurate content of the book of Isaiah has changed my life over the last 4 years! It has opened up not only the book of Isaiah but ALL of the other scriptures as well. I have had the privilege of getting to know Avraham personally over the last four years as well, as my wife and I are personal friends with him and his lovely wife. Amazing work, amazing people and my wife and I are greatly blessed to know them. Please have him back on your show so that as many people as possible can gain the knowledge that his work exists! So many will greatly benefit from this information as they search for truth found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
I appreciate the interview. I have read a few of his books. I bristle a bit, however, with individuals that feel that they have it all figured out. You had mentioned in the interview that you had some issues with a commentator that you enjoy. I feel that that is what we all need to acknowledge. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can truthfully claim that they have it all figured out. That is not to say that we cannot benefit for the tools being provided. We certainly can! And I have loved much of what I have read of your guest in the past. But I think everyone should be a bit cautious when reading anything from any mortal. Acknowledge the good, use it in your tool belt if you can, but always be aware that it is the knowledge of mortals that you are using. But to think we have it all figured out would put us in the same camp as the Sadducees and the Pharisees. They thought they had it all figured out too. They were convinced that Jesus was not the Christ despite the fact He was standing right in front of them. Humility is essential when it comes to mortality.
I began a study of Isaiah three snd a half years ago using Avraham's tools. It has been an amazing journey. It has deepened my understanding of all scripture, the Endowment and has deepen my covenant relationship with the Lord!
Thank you for hosting Avraham! I greatly appreciate and respect his works throughout the years. What a blessing it is to understand Isaiah and what it means to us today…because it is unfolding before our eyes.
Gileadi is awesome, I am about 2.5 years into learning about the book of Isaiah, he's right when he says you see everything in a different light. And when he talks about the precepts of men in the church, I suddenly understood how many misconceptions I've been living with. I understand people try to teach from the knowledge base they have but when they do so without FULL knowledge it inevitably leads off the path however little that may be. I started looking at all the "doctrinal" LDS books I have read in my life, the ones that explain something without quoting scripture, and I realized there was more opinion than truth or misconceived truth. Because of this I use the scriptures and the Holy Ghost to answer my questions, not another person.
I agree with Bro. Giliadi... Isaiah should be read and understood first before getting all of the true meanings in the rest of the scriptures. It was the Book of Mormon that got me studying Isaiah. I love this man... he is so humble and easy to understand.
A few years ago, I decided to finish the Old Testament. I always got bogged down in Psalms. So this time I was going to finish it. When I got to Isaiah, I determined to get over my fear of it. I was prompted to read all the footnotes. At the end I was ready to start all over again. I truly became one of those who love Isaiah.
I learned to LOVE Isaiah through the Analytical Commentary of Isaiah he mentioned; I found it very helpful and inspired me to keep learning. Thank you Avraham and thank you Greg.
Thank you for this interview! I’m so heartened by the comments of so many being inspired by this interview and by Brother Gileadi’s message to begin an earnest discovery of Isaiah! The knowledge you gain will change the course of your life upwards!! Thank you and may God bless you both for laboring in His kingdom. ❤
Deseret Book in the early 1990s pulled Avraham Gileadi's book from its bookshelves called the Last Days, because of his declaration that the Davidic King will be a real person in the last days. The book was a hot seller and after Deseret Book pulled the book from its shelves the book became rare and its value increased on the secondary market. I remember selling a copy of it at a higher price than it's original price. All because Gileadi is taking Isaiah literally. It's ironic now, that Deseret Book won't pull off its shelves a book that blasphemes the prophet Joseph Smith and presents falsehoods as historical fact such as Rough Stone Rolling. Strange ethics found at Deseret Book, with its schizoid behavior over LDS authors.
"Orson Hyde dedicated the Holy Land for the return of the Jews on my birthday" This is true for me, too. It was October 24, 1841 when he did that. The 182nd anniversary of that event is coming up tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 24). By the way, happy birthday Avraham!
Yes Happy birthday to you both! I watched this interview today and it is the 24 Oct in NZ! Orson Hyde's dedication of the Holy Land is kind of special to me as well. How nice to have this interview line up so beautifully with that holy event in history.
Thank you for saying the date because I was wondering when this video came out exactly I wanted to know if it was before or after October 7 because we all know what happened on that day in Israel. Which also happened to be my birthday! So I share October birthday with you!🎉🎉🎉😅
What a legend. I have never seen him before in a Podcast format. I agree with you on a year for church study on Isaiah. The fact that Isaiah parts are in The Book of Mormon shows it's true. There is no way back in the 1800s that researchers knew that having the Book of Isaiah was essential to establishing a Jewish or religious community such as we find in the Dead Sea Scrolls etc. The Book of Isaiah starts popping up.
I’ve wondered what you thought of the work of Gileadi. This was great, thank you! I love the things that those who convert from a Jewish tradition have to teach us Gentiles about scripture.
Around the 55 minute mark Bro. Gileadi references "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith" for Joseph Smith's teaching of one named David and raised from his lineage in the last days. For those curious, the page number is 339, not 337
The original document for the TPJS reference is found JSP and points to Christ as the future David. Joseph Smith refers to Peter at they day of the pentecost (Acts 2:30) when Peter says Christ will reign forever. Look at Fair apologetic research of the Davidic servant.
2 Nephi 25: 7-8 7 But behold, I proceed with mine own prophecy, according to my plainness; in the which I know that no man can err; nevertheless, in the days that the prophecies of Isaiah shall be fulfilled men shall know of a surety, at the times when they shall come to pass. 8 Wherefore, they are of worth unto the children of men, and he that supposeth that they are not, unto them will I speak particularly, and confine the words unto mine own people; for I know that they shall be of great worth unto them in the last days; for in that day shall they understand them; wherefore, for their good have I written them. Nephi is telling us directly that the words of Isaiah will be "of great worth unto [the children of men] in the last days," and that we would understand them, because we will see the very things Isaiah prophesied come to pass. There is no doubt in my mind that both Nephi and Isaiah saw our day, because the prophesies are being fulfilled even now. Greg, I am so thrilled that you invited Avraham Gileadi to your show. I have learned so much from him, and one of the most precious things is how he has taught us tools to search and understand the scriptures for ourselves. There have been several times watching your show that I have wanted to say, "this has all been prophesied!" If we search Isaiah diligently (and by extension, all of the scriptures), what is happening in the world will be less likely to shock us. D&C 38:30: "...[W]herefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear." Would we rather learn of these things in the moment when they happen and be unprepared, or would we rather "treasure up wisdom" and prepare ourselves spiritually so that we are not caught off-guard and overcome by fear? Also, do we understand the signs so that we will not be deceived? D&C 123:12 "For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it..." Thank you, Greg, for bringing to our attention Christ's commandment to search the words of Isaiah. You're pointing out where we can find great and essential truth and where our eyes of understanding can be opened like never before. The insights that I have gained by studying Isaiah have caused me to treasure all the scriptures in a deeper way, and it has been truly an exciting journey, just as Brother Gileadi described in this video.
I've only found the works of Avraham Gileadi recently, and I'm fascinated by it! Mostly because of his work in decrypting Isaiah aligning heavily with my own research. I enjoyed this discussion very much, and hope you will have him on again.
All these end time prophecies from our various scriptures have to do with the fulfillment of the covenants that God made with the House of of Israel. I have been reading some books by Michael B Rush. He shows how these end time prophecies from various prophets all coordinate and help us understand the message more completely. I am really appreciating your guests because he is speaking the same way as these books I'm reading. I have always been one to search out answers and do more than just go to church. I believe we do not understand the scriptures or even the words of our prophets completely, unless we use the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Avraham was a good friend of my father Jack Sloane. We lived in Israel at the same time. My father also taught old testament at BYU and was on the ancient scripture faculty. This is fun!
Thank you for this interview! I didn't know much about Abraham Gileadi, but now I'm hooked. I'm so anxious learn more about Isaiah and understand his prophecies, especially as related to the Book of Mormon! I've already ordered his most recent book!
Reading just the first few chapters of Isaiah it's like you were literally reading word for word exactly what's going on in the world right now, those things that you always think about and dislike reading them in Isaiah is liberating
Wow! When I was at the Y in the early '90s, I had very respected religious professors tell me about Avraham Gilleadi and his writings. Thanks to both of you for doing this interview.
Greg, Thank you for featuring Brother Avraham on your program. I have been acquainted with his work for about 4 years now. My understanding of Isaiah has blossomed and my understanding of the purpose of the Book of Mormon has been greatly enhanced as a result of studying Isaiah using the tools that Avraham had provided. If you haven’t already done so, I would invite you to follow Abraham’s suggestion to listen to his Analyitical Commentary on the Book of Isaiah which uses the Isaiah Institute translation of Isaiah. For me, once I listened to this and continued to study Isaiah for the past four years, I now know why so many Book of Mormon prophets and the Savior himself in 3 Nephi, were so intent on us Ephraimite Gentiles understanding how the words of Isaiah inform us on what our critical role is, or should be in a worldwide rescue effort in the time just before the return of the Savior. This final gathering of the tribes of Israel back to Zion so that they might be brought back into the covenant, is really the marvelous work and wonder that Isaiah is trying to teach us about and prepare us for! Again, thank you!
Great subject and interview. I believe it is time I take Isaiah more seriously since I really haven’t understood the importance even though the BoM and Christ himself says we should study Isaiah with urgency.
another pause and comment. I was told all my childhood that my generation would usher in the Second Coming of Christ. It never set well with me. No one could possibly know. Middle age has come and I don't think my Sunday School teachers were right to say what they said. I'm not waiting around for the Lord to come. I want to live my life as if He already is here, and when He comes, He comes.
As a seminary student, I (and my classmates) were advised to just read the chapter headings when we got to Isaiah in the Book of Mormon. I took my seminary’s teachers advice, but felt so sick about it that I started reading the whole chapters. Even as a youth I sensed the importance of Isaiah, and it’s unfortunate I was given bad advice to lazily pass them by instead of guidance to understand. ❤️🩹 I always especially enjoy this style of episode from you. What a great guest! I’m going to have to look into his books. Thanks to you both!
Hi Avraham, nice to see you! This is Sandy. You spoke at our Sandy, Utah Passover event years ago. I'm still online while the unbelievers continue to do their sorcery to stop myself and others.
This is awesome, I’ve been studying Isaiah institute and love it. You really got to read Michael B Rush’s Book of Enoch dialog about the actual historical context of lost tribes and Nephite (Hagoths ships = Hey Goth, etc…. Who are these people really). The picture starts to show even more than Avraham even gets into! It’s all awesom!
I am so glad to finally hear someone say, that there could be some of the 10 tribes in the earth! He seems to have a knowledge of this, and not just guessing.
I totally agree I have noticed members who have been raised in the church truly rely on the church and their parents and not God and they treat the church as if it is everything, and I often think there's people who don't go to church who do more of the Lord's work in different ways and study the scriptures and follow the lord and the gospel than most of them
I read one of Bro. Gileadi's books The Literary Message of Isaiah maybe 20 years ago and became hooked on his books. I have recently discovered The Isaiah institute through Scripture Notes recently and am about halfway thru going by one structure at a time' "Great are the words of Isaiah."
It is so unfortunate that at these times, we, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, can go through these tipe of "cultural movements" in times like these. I am converted from Brazil. My family met the first missionaries in 1974, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. I attended seminary youth Conferencies and received a blessing of serving in many capacities at Church in Brazil, Puerto Rico, and upstate NY. We lived in Bountiful for the last 10 years, and I have never imagined that my fight in the last days would be from outside of the church. We LDS would be persecuted by the " world " not by the líderes. In Brazil, the members of the LDS Church have a great regard for BYU. Since 2020, we have seen our 3 kids and families straight away from church for all that had happened in BUY and with and after the pandemic. Vaccine was another big problem that took away our free will. My grandson, who attended the temple every Friday after he turned 12, didn't serve a mission because he disagreed about taking the covid vaccine. I served in the Bountiful temple with my husband for 8 years and came back to serve when they opened after the pandemic until they decided that the non vaccinated temple workers needed to go back to wear masks again when the vaccinated didn't. It was attaching a big yellow star of David in our faces. What is happening with the líderes to call bad for bad and good for good? It has been very disappointing, sad and doscouraging. It's like fighting against everything that I trust and believe. It's the opposite of what I thought would happen now that I am 68 years old. 😢
I'm so sorry for what you've gone through. Some of the hardest persecution to deal with comes from the people closest to you. Isaiah 49:13-15: "Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee."
Avraham is definitely an inspired person sent by God. Many people believe that God only chooses leaders in the institutional church to warn the people, that is a mistake that most people make in failing to recognize who God sends as messengers. The scriptures have many examples of that, from John the Baptist to Abinadi and many others. People open your eyes and hearts and take Isaiah seriously, his prophecies are very important and critical to help us understand what is going on in the world right now. The recent rising and alliance of Tyrant nations is a clear sign of who God will use to destroy the Gentile Nations prior to his second coming.
I look forward to reading the new translation of Isaiah to help open the door to a better understanding of that text. However, I felt a little minimization by Abraham's on the importance or Prophet's and General Authorities. They have an important role in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as "we lean NOT on our own understanding. "
@@OmahaAreaLoya Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Isaiah and Daniel all have far too much meat on them for any Sunday School style class to do more than scan them in broad strokes.
I like your thinking on this, but we are encouraged to do home and personal study. The majority of our knowledge should come from personal study. Devoting at least an hour a day reading and studying scripture. Just like the Prophets telling us that we will have to watch ourselves, no prophet will warn us of the immediate coming of Christ...we must have the oil in our lamps that we have prepared ourselves. Our lessons on Sundays are geared for newcomers as well as all of us. We have to graduate on our own...
What Dan said,.... I'm not from any native tribe... My ancestors are from Norway. But all my life, I've held the hope & thought in my heart, that someone like David Midegah would eventually surface and confirm to us in the LDS church, that they hold the proof of the Book of Mormon!! I'm so stoked for the fact that this has finally come full circle!! And I can't tell you how sad it makes me, that ANY church member would attack someone like Chief Migedah, and accuse him of having alrerior motives! ☹️😢 That disappoints me beyond words!! They should be praising God that this proof is finally surfacing!! And to thank our Creator that we have new brothers who have the stories of when Christ came shortly after his resurrection!! I simply don't understand what is wrong with these individuals who think that only THEY have the truth. I say shame on them! I would be so heartbroken if our brother, Chief Migedah, decided that it was a mistake to come to the church and show or tell them about everything he knows for the past 2-3 millenia!! 💔 Please open your hearts and minds people!! How can you possibly be as arrogant as to say anything accusatory towards an Ojibwe brother who knows the entire story of the Peacemaker.. you all were told this was eventually going to surface and we would have an opportunity to learn more!!
I like brother Gileadi. It doesn't seem apparent to me that he understands the gathering of the 12 tribes of Israel to Zion is taking place right now in the latter-day kingdom through the making of covenants starting with baptism.
AoF 10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent;. The literal gathering to New Jerusalem hasn’t happened. That is what is described in Isaiah. This spiritual gathering we are attempting is not part of prophecy.
I have always seen limited purpose in the Book of Mormon or the book of Isaiah if they were not a warning to the latter days. I have always imagined that they were, but they also confused me. Conversely, I've always been drawn to the clarity of the Old Testament and Doctrine and Covenants Covenants (Section 1 is the most compelling chapter of any scripture I've ever read.). But I struggled on some level with the BOM (and obviously Isaiah) until a friend of mine bought me Gileadi's Endtime Prophecy. I feel like the veneer has been lifted.
As with all who teach the gospel, we need to always first follow the council of the Apostles and Prophets in all things and hear what they say. this is all nice but we need to be aware of all who profess to know and isn't it nice, but we need to always be aware that we are not led astray. like with all things by there words and fruits.
No man can know that Jesus is the Christ except through the spirit of prophecy or the spirit of revelation. Thus you will have those who are ever learning, but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth because their method lacks/rejects the use of revelation or the spirit of prophecy.
Ok, all you Isaiah lovers. That includes me. Go read Isaiah chapter 19. Substitute USA where ever it says Egypt. Put American in where ever it says Egyptian. Read it. Pretty bleak. Yes? No? Get your rest. Take your vitamin pills...
Isaiah was the only prophet who had as his main job, to hide most of the “mysteries”some, about the temple “ ceremony” and about Israel in the latter days. If a member of this church do not get acquaintance with The Spirit of Prophecy and revelation, will actually miss a lot. Isaiah 22:23 is a great example.
You don't need to understand Isaiah (or better said Avraham's interpretation of Isaiah) to understand the Book of Mormon. The writers of the Book of Mormon gave everything that is needed, Nephi even gave the explanation of Isaiah that he quoted right after quoting it. (ref minute 19:14)
I would say that understanding Isaiah gives you a much clearer understanding of the Book of Mormon. After quoting Isaiah 54, Christ tells the people at Bountiful, "I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah." So that's a commandment. Later he says, "great are the words of Isaiah". I would also suggest that the entire Book of Mormon is built around the Book of Isaiah, especially chapters 52 and 53. As an example, it's hard to understand Abinadi without understanding Isaiah. Nephi also puts entire chapters into his book. It would be wise to understand the context of these chapters and how they match to what Nephi is saying.
But what Avraham said is you need to understand Isaiah to understand the Book of Mormon. Nephi gives the interpretation of the Isaiah chapters, he even says that I will expound these things because I know the manner of the Jews but I do not want to teach the manner of the Jews to my people. I would say you need to understand the Book of Mormon to understand Isaiah.
So Jesus gave one full chapter himself in 3Ne. Then commanded us to study Isaiah. He did not say study the current prophet of his day or our day, just Isaiah. Nephi and Jacob gave us 18 chapters of Isaiah and did not tell us what was in them. Nephi could not since he was shown our end days but not permitted to say more. So he gave us those chapters to tell us what he saw.
@@FleeingBabylon-Now Not my point, you're conflating what Jesus said to what I was addressing that Avraham said you need to understand Isaiah in order to understand the Book of Mormon. Jesus didn't say that. I agree one should study the words of Isaiah, but I would never say you have to understand Isaiah first if you're going to be able to understand the Book of Mormon. Mormon and Moroni gave us exactly what is needed, in the book is the fullness of the gospel. Nephi specifically said that he couldn't say anymore because someone else is supposed to reveal that. John the revelator. His book Revelations, is what he is talking about. You want to understand the continuity of what Nephi is saying? Then combine what Nephi's vision is with the book of Revelations and then you'll really understand what is going on. We should not treat the Book of Mormon so lightly that we believe the book cannot be understood unless we buy the books from Gileadi to understand Isaiah. Where in the scriptures does it ever say that? Sounds dangerously close to a priestcraft. The Holy Spirit of God reveals to all, poor and rich, those with access and those without.
@@CwicShow The appearance of Isaiah 53 in the Book of Mormon is its quotation by Abinadi, where he’s saying it refers to the bringing about the salvation through His suffering servant, i.e. the future crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Abinadi does this to argue against king Noah and his priests falsely claiming the mantle of the anointed servant establishing peace in Isaiah 52. In this interview Gileadi wants to see in Isaiah 53 a strictly political last-days messiah other than Jesus Christ. This seems incompatible with Abinadi’s use of Isaiah 53-indeed it seems to be the very kind of interpretation that Abinadi is arguing against. The whole point of the New Testament authors’ politically subversive application of the Greco-Roman titles “Lord” and “Savior” to Jesus, usually applied to Caesar, is that _Jesus_, not Caesar, is the rightful political ruler of the world, even though the implementation of that political rule would have to wait until His parousia or appearing (i.e. the Second Coming), another Greco-Roman technical term normally used to refer to a visit or arrival of the Emperor. Gileadi is mistaken to break with this early Christian tradition and look for some other political messiah other than Jesus Christ.
Greg im a fan of your show. Do you believe that the Isaiah Decoded book is doctrinally sound and such? Id like to study is but see some polarizing comments, and wanted to ask your opinion..( of course i know there are always gonna be polarizing comments about all these things).. thank you sir
I am intrigued by Bro Gileadi's approach. I will study more of his work to gain more context. But I haven't studied enough to answer your question. I know respectful people who love his work and other's who disagree with it.
Wait, I'm not the only one who takes issue with Come Follow Me? I'm not a scholar, nowhere near it; but I have had some problems with Come Follow Me being oversimplified and leaving so little room for actual gospel discussion. Every time I try to study Come Follow Me, I find myself concerned about who wrote this. I want to know whose words I'm reading.
My husband and I from the time of Covid started watching, Tyler and Taylor on Scripture Study. I can’t get out anymore so this really helps me because they really go in depth with the scriptures and lessons. I hope this helps ❤
They cannot touch on Isaiah as it would lead to belief in an end time servant and church leaders who are astray. Why would there be this Davidic servant if all was well in Zion?
42:47 Has there been any time since Christ that people didn’t think the end times or second coming was close? I think the least productive thing we as believers do is try to predict the second coming. How about we just always have are lamps full of oil and leave it at that?
Really? The LEAST productive thing? Christ says that His elect will watch for the signs because they will indicate that Christ is "near" (JS-M 1:39). Which one is it? You say that it is the least productive thing to do and Christ says it's important to watch for the signs to know His Second Coming is near. Just because a few believers misunderstood the signs doesn't give us any right to say that God delayeth his coming.
@@jaceallred Don't overcorrect. Notice I said keep our lamps brimmed. Can you name a time when Christianity didn't think the end times were near? What's unproductive is being fanatical about it by hyper-focusing on prepping, tent cities, refusing to live a normal life such as having kids, etc etc. When I see nut jobs buying up ammo and and constantly shopping for end-of-times crap I find that unproductive and a focus on the wrong things.
It was easier for me to understand the Book of Mormon then Isaiah. I spent a year just focused on Isaiah. If you put the time in there is so much you can get from Isaiah.
I can’t remember the source, but I seem to remember a prophet declaring the David forerunner is Joseph Smith and the restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I haven’t tried looking for the source yet. Does that ring a bell for anyone else here?
It is ABSOLUTELY pushed from the top to “follow the prophet” before they even mention “follow Christ.” For heavens sake we teach our primary kids that song. They don’t learn “Come, Follow Me” until they’re tweens. FOLLOW JESUS should be the only thing we are teaching from the pulpit, and sadly it’s not that. ESPECIALLY during covid and with the masks and the vaccines it was ALL about follow the prophet. Our leaders even bowed to the world by opening every session of conference acknowledging that they were following the laws of man. It was disgusting. It is SPOT ON that our journey is with Christ, not man.
@@CwicShow your guest on this show said it too. That Isaiah talked about a pandemic where the saints would rely on man instead of God. He also said our journey is with Christ, not man. So, I guess it’s not just my interpretation, but an actual Isaiah scholar.
Christ has said whether by mine own voice or the voice of the prophets it is the same. In that respect and in the understanding of our church's belief in modern revelation, yes we do teach our children and members to follow the prophet because for us, in doing so, we are absolutely following God.
Here's a question for him. If he didn't have all that schooling etc. And had to do it on his own. Does he think he could have come to this kind of understanding on his own?
The watchdogs of Ephraim to make a covenant w death in Isaiah chapter 28. The "drunkards of Ephraim" should not put their trust in the arm of the flesh. There is a reason that the LDS church only studies Isaiah for a couple weeks.
Isaiah is only one of many books of scripture that paints the picture of the last days. You really have to combine all of the scriptures to really understand what is ahead of us. Greg I felt you could have been a lot better prepared for this interview.
Isaiah uses key words that Moses used, so you don't just look at how Isaiah uses the words, but how Moses used them, and then how Christ and other prophets quoted isaiah. So to say Isaiah alone contains the answers, its self contained, is simply false. How often does avraham quote other scripture in his interpretation? How much does he use the D&C, Nephi, Moses, or the New Testament? He doesn't see the book of Mormon in isaiah 29. He doesn't see Joseph Smith or the restoration on Isaiah, Avraham says everything regarding a servant and restoration of the house of Israel is in our future. Be careful when you use Avraham as your primary study source.
He has a pretty good source since the Savior himself in America said to study Isaiah. He did not say study Nephi or Moroni or even the current leader. He said study Isaiah and even gave us another chapter directly.
@@FleeingBabylon-Now did the Savior say you had to buy Gileadi's version of Isaiah to study that? What's wrong with reading Isaiah on your own with the spirit as the it? If you want additional materials the Scripture Citation Index by BYU will cross reference additional scriptures, general conference talks, and other talks by Joseph Smith and other church leaders. The Institute books are another great reference that won't take you down crooked paths.
@@reneezamora2465 I agree with you. I studied Isaiah on my own and have not used his books or resources. Yet after studying it intently I disagree with him on a few things but overall he is discussing the same things I found. Sorry I will only use the scriptures and not anything from BYU. They are teaching so much false doctrine and beliefs at BYU in religion. I cannot watch without gagging the Book of Mormon Central. If only the members would as Nephi said to Laman and Lemuel, why not ask of God yourself. We prefer soft and soothing words from our teachers now. We look to others rather than God.
I love your testimony, Abraham and your work is magnificent. You are truly one of the real wonderful people who really discovered the truth and brought it to the masses. And you’re trying to do it for free now and give people an opportunity to learn from your wisdom from the wisdom of God, gave you. But don’t we have enough money now? Do you think that you need to charge for anything? Why not simply take all donations proceeds and give them to the remnant group, or the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or how about this? Why don’t you donate every penny and it comes to you to the poor. Just the poor and none other. Don’t charge for the apps I know people need to make money to put this stuff out there but you guys have enough money now and everybody can work during the day and you’ve got enough information. There that all you have to do is have one single podcast where you tell the people that now that you got the keys and ideas, it’s time to study the book of Isaiah for yourselves, and if you’re interested great, and if you’re not well, God commanded us to read that book in the book of Mormon. So let them read and leave it at that. Or maybe you want to be the prophet and everybody can follow you because you’re the best interpretation and I know this is a very cynical and terrible way of commentary in on the work you do. I think you’re magnificent and I want to meet you, but if you can’t give it all up, then you’re not worthy of him. And he says that the arm of the Lord is going to step forward and sweep off all those rich guys and put an end of this garbage. Since you don’t claim to be that man, then I suggest you give up all the money you make in the proceeds personally, and what did he say?
I also felt that Avraham was there to be selling his products. And yes, the Come Follow Me could have more information but lessons are there for the most common denominators. I think we have the responsibilities to study and pray and listen for personal revelation directly from the scriptures. I am also sure that church publications are carefully reviewed before they are available. Jesus is the Christ, through the Holy Ghost He will speak to us and answer questions that we have. The Prophets are teaching us in our times as did OT prophets. President Nelson is aware of what is coming and so he has made so many changes since Jan 2018 to help us become self reliant in out testimonies. Think in Sept 1995, President Hinckley gave us the Proclamation to the Family. Think he knew what was coming later, I sure do.
He definitely has some interesting content and we can learn from him. However, I think I would frame the gathering of Israel and the recovery of the ten tribes in a more positive light from my interpretation of The Book of Mormon prophecies. First of all, we’ve been sending thousands of missionaries for almost 200 years. We are now building temples in the hundreds across the earth to take the covenants to the House of Israel. In terms of recovering Lehi’s children, myself and almost all of my peers who are in our 40s now served up and down South America, Central America, and Mexico. These are Lamanites and Nephites in my opinion. Also, if you look at what has happened with immigration in this specific country, the USA is also being turned back to the children of Lehi and seed of Joseph. If trends continue the US will be a majority Latino country within about 30 years. I live on the border, and it’s clear to me that the House of Israel is pressing into this country. That’s my interpretation at least. Finally, for me a spiritual interpretation of the House of Israel is also relevant, because we do temple work for every single child of God. The House of Israel is the House of God. There are Jewish nations that remain as a people like in Israel, and in some South American nations, but everyone has some Israelite blood as well, because in genealogy if you go back 2,000 years, everyone alive today has heritage from everyone alive back then. We all have billions and trillions of instances of ancestry with some people occurring many times in our lines and others less, but if you ask a genealogist, we all descend from royalty and poverty at the same time. We all descend from Israel/Jacob. His blood is mixed into every nation.
Actually Lehi's seed are the blacks in America. The same ones that had a priesthood ban. Do some research on what they first explorers found in America, negros or large stature, who were made slaves and dispossessed of their land by the gentiles.
I wanted to take his Understanding Isaiah class so badly! I never could get in.
I wish I was so lucky! What an amazing blessing and experience you had!
do be kind and share your work. i would love to use it nicely!
That’s marvelous! 😊
Look at 2 Nephi 6: 1 - 5 ---------
1 The words of Jacob, the brother of Nephi, which he spake unto the people of Nephi:
2 Behold, my beloved brethren, I, Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the manner of his holy order, and having been consecrated by my brother Nephi, unto whom ye look as a king or a protector, and on whom ye depend for safety, behold ye know that I have spoken unto you exceedingly many things.
Thank you for this
@@primafacie5029 😊
Why did he teach Isaiah in the Book of Mormon? Is that what you are asking? What is significant about Isaiah in the Book of Mormon are the parts chosen to be there is my take.
@@curtisblanco4029 it was just a rhetorical question, but yes, I agree with you.
You can do both: accept the prophets and learn the events that will come to pass as prophesied by ISAIAH and I might add if you’re listening to your own prophet Nelson then he has taught us that except we learn to receive personal
Revelation we will not be able to survive the events that are to come in these the last days.
We do not have to choose one or the other but can be aware and educated by both.
Spot on!
I agree completely. The literary structures Gileadi discovered make it very clear.
Wow, this is wonderful. Is this something you have shared or would be willing to share?
I'm beginning to wonder what's the point of reading it? Will it change what we do as a nation or individual?
Ezekiel 34:23, Jeremiah 30:9.

Gileadi is awesome. His work has unlocked Isaiah for me.
I believe that is true.
Nothing but gratitude love and respect for Avraham! I am finally feeling like I have an understanding of Isaiah because of him. 28:03
I bought 3 of his books because of this episode. I'm into chapter 2 of the Isaiah Code and I'm blown away, there's so much to learn.
But isn’t that why we have been given the scriptures so that we use them to figure it out?
I began a study of Isaiah three snd a half years ago using Avraham's tools. It has been an amazing journey. It has deepened my understanding of all scripture, the Endowment and has deepen my covenant relationship with the Lord!
That is good to hear. Perhaps we will talk more about the temple next time.
Thank you for hosting Avraham! I greatly appreciate and respect his works throughout the years. What a blessing it is to understand Isaiah and what it means to us today…because it is unfolding before our eyes.
Isaiah is making my heart rejoice as I begin to love God and Feel His love as I strive to read Isaiah s book
Avraham changed my life! I love his help in teaching us the meaning of the words of Isaiah!
I love Brother Gileadi❤ His work is phenomenal

This is true for me, too.

Wow, great point!! Never thought of the historical context of Isaiah's importance in not only the 1800s, but the 1800s in the land of America!
I bought Mr. Gileadi's Book of Isaiah after this chat. Thanks for this conversation, which makes me want to study Isaiah.
I’ve wondered what you thought of the work of Gileadi. This was great, thank you! I love the things that those who convert from a Jewish tradition have to teach us Gentiles about scripture.
Gileadi is totally amazing contribution to what we need to know in these crazy days! Thanks for important interview.
2 Nephi 25: 7-8
7 But behold, I proceed with mine own prophecy, according to my plainness; in the which I know that no man can err; nevertheless, in the days that the prophecies of Isaiah shall be fulfilled men shall know of a surety, at the times when they shall come to pass.
D&C 38:30: "...[W]herefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear."
Would we rather learn of these things in the moment when they happen and be unprepared, or would we rather "treasure up wisdom" and prepare ourselves spiritually so that we are not caught off-guard and overcome by fear? Also, do we understand the signs so that we will not be deceived?
D&C 123:12 "For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it..."
Thank you, Greg, for bringing to our attention Christ's commandment to search the words of Isaiah.
Makes me motivated to learn Isaiah more!
Do it!
Avraham was a good friend of my father Jack Sloane. We lived in Israel at the same time. My father also taught old testament at BYU and was on the ancient scripture faculty. This is fun!
Avraham was als a friend of my brother, David Galbraith. I’ve heard good things…
@@danak8782 your brother was in the Branch Presidency with my dad I believe! You can ask him about the Sloane family.
Greg,
Thank you for featuring Brother Avraham on your program.
You're welcome! Great feedback.
Thank you for this comment.
Great subject and interview. I believe it is time I take Isaiah more seriously since I really haven’t understood the importance even though the BoM and Christ himself says we should study Isaiah with urgency.
thanks for having my long time Isaiah scholar on.
You're welcome.
another pause and comment.
I agree.
I always especially enjoy this style of episode from you. What a great guest! I’m going to have to look into his books. Thanks to you both!
Hi Avraham, nice to see you! This is Sandy. You spoke at our Sandy, Utah Passover event years ago. I'm still online while the unbelievers continue to do their sorcery to stop myself and others.
Gileadi definitely has so many good insights in Isaiah. Love his work.
You need to have Avraham on again!
Scripture Notes is awesome!
Fabulous discussion! Gileadi is a genius.
Isaiah 49:13-15:
"Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.
"Why did Isaiah right this way?".... Why did Jesus speak in parables to the multitudes??
Might be a connection there. :>)
That would be wonderful if Come Follow Me would cover the book of Isaiah.
Agreed
Revelation gets skipped over at Christmas time too
If you come to understand the words of Isaiah, you will understand why it won't get substantial coverage in Come Follow Me.
That disappoints me beyond words!!
This was fascinating and has inspired me to study more. Thank you. It’s a great break from the current hot topics of today.
Wonderful!
The plain and precious parts are the Covenants. Wow.
Maybe the core of what was lost. But not all IMO
@@CwicShow definitely important to view as opinion.
This was spirituality exciting to listen to ... thank you to both of you
Great interview… one of my favorites!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the recap. We shall see.
Very helpful episode. Thank you!
Cool! I remember reading his book "The Last Days" a few years ago.
Same. We loosely follow the dates of the chapters, but we usually refer to the Institute Student Manuals and other similar materials.
@@FleeingBabylon-Now 🎯
@@FleeingBabylon-Now- Have some fun with that. You don’t think Russell M. Nelson is a prophet?
Thank you for another great video. I always enjoy learning more.
you're welcome
Which of his books is best to get started in a study of Isaiah?
I would suggest Isaiah Decoded - amzn.to/3QtLhOg
It was easier for me to understand the Book of Mormon then Isaiah. I spent a year just focused on Isaiah. If you put the time in there is so much you can get from Isaiah.
So interesting! Thanks, Greg!
Will have to go back and brush up on the book of his that I own. I has been a few years now but i found it incredibly enlightening.
I would like to pick his brain further!! Could you have him on again? PLEASE!!
Of course!
Amazing content on this channel. Thank you.
Appreciate it
Thanks Greg. Fascinating.
So good, thank you!!
You're welcome!
I can’t remember the source, but I seem to remember a prophet declaring the David forerunner is Joseph Smith and the restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I haven’t tried looking for the source yet. Does that ring a bell for anyone else here?
How is the best way to begin a serious study of the book of Isaiah? What are the best aids??
This is dangerous thinking.
@@CwicShow it seems Isaiah agrees with my thinking though.
@@angelamadsen416 it’s your interpretation.
Besides Isaiah, we as Latter-day Saints should understand better the Passover.
Yeah Greg u slackin bro.
The Lord orders our steps
What are the seven covenants referred to by Avraham that are found in Isaiah?
Great post. I agree 100%.
..cool. I made the observation from here down under. Proud to be of Lamanite descent.
