Nice Video, is there anything to prolong a non oil burner, after pre cats ... is a faster flowing oil filter better? is thinner oil better? is a carbon clean every x miles better? is walnut blasting recommended? ... I cant be arsed keep replacing engines every 50k so what can be done? as for oil, you can get Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 High Performance for £18 delivered.
Sorry I only just saw this comment! The idea of thinner oil bothers me. There's a reason that specification of oil was recommended by Toyota. They key is good and regular servicing. If the crap is removed from the engine regularly, it can't build up as fast. Many people take these engines through 150k miles with no issues if it's been looked after but if it hasn't been serviced for 5 years on the run, it will be in a VERY sorry state.
I've had the same issue and eventualy rebuilt it, drilled additional oil drain holes into the pistons and used better oil controll rings from Mahle. I had some sucess with engine flushes and early oilchanges. It did reduce the oil consumption for a while.
Here I am watching this exactly one year later, and I need to replace the gasket on my Spyder. How hard was it to keep the oil from pouring everywhere when you performed the gasket replacement?
Good to see this job done, That oil pan is so rusty.
Thanks for sharing your expertise and video of your journey - well done!
You are very welcome. The MR2 has gone now. Sold to my brother. Watch this space for more projects

Using thinner oil can help it survive as it'll get back down the rings easier, but if its going to go it'll go

@@darylhatherrley5765 I did it right. The pick up was fine. No need for replacement. You do you.
@@craignicholson1249 Didn't see or hear any mention of it in the clip, you can only tell if its fine by removing it and looking inside.
@Daryl Hatherrley as I said Daryl, you do you. I'll do me..
