  • Cenote is a natural sinkhole filled with freshwater. This Cenote is called Cenote Saamal in Valladolid. It is 120-feet deep and therefore the vest was mandatory. They had lockers, showers, and bathrooms in the vicinity. It was part of our tour from Chichen-Itza and going to soak your body in the water after a hot session from Chichen-Itza was perfect. It plays an important role as the Yucatan Peninsula has very few rivers and lakes, so cenotes are main source of their water.
Lots of cenotes are found in Mexico and Yucatan Peninsula. Watch the video to get a really nice tip on how to get to a cenote.
If you are staying in Cancun area and planning to go a cenote, it might take couple of hours from Cancun to get to the nearest Cenote, so do not waste your entire day just for a cenote. There tons of cenotes that are already close-by Chitchen-Itza, so better to plan your day going to Chichen-Itza or Tulum with a cenote experience.

Hey, do you think non swimmers can also go to cenotes? I don’t know swimming at all so still can I jump in it?

Yes! You still get to swim and dive! I don’t know how to swim either so it took me forever to jump! A vest is required at this cenote because without it, it’s not super safe because it was 130 feeet deep!!!!

Glad you worked up the courage to jump! I think seeing you jump convinced Christina to try it too!

haha! thanks for the encouragement! if it wasn't for you and my husband constantly yelling from below, I wouldn't have the courage! it looked so easy, but it was definitely scary! she kinda hesitated a bit before she actually jumped also! I wanted to include your jumps but you guys might sue me. lol!
