  • What does building a golf course from scratch along Utah's Wasatch Front take? Join us as we visit with BHI to find out!
    At the center of the new Marcella Club is an 18-hole golf course designed by TGR Design (better known as Tiger Woods' firm).
    To build the course, the crews of BHI are busy for the next three summer seasons moving over 1,000,000 yards of rock and earth to shape eighteen beautiful holes of golf.
    Beautiful is an understatement... This is the closest we'll ever get to playing the course, but I'm fine with it!
    Thank you to Reef PE, Marcella, and Raintree for the access!

    42 year experience civil engineer checking in with you. Have done 7 golf courses - they’re interesting to work on because of the relatively large budgets.
    Nice job overall on these videos; photography is outstanding. Stay with it. Thanks.

      shapers are real dozer operators :) specialized skillz. A lot of the time they are independent contractors, other times they work for golf course specific companies.

    There used to be the most beautiful trails in that area. In the autumn, it was like riding through a Cropsey or Moran painting - spectacular. It kills me to see all the overdevelopment. A good portion of that natural beauty is gone now, and the rest is going quick. Pathetic.

    What about the millions of yards of not only the specialty soil mixes for the Fairways, Tees and Greens but also the Sand mixes for the Greens and Sand Traps? Again those are all specialty mixes.

    Some seem intent on pointing out the negative with GC development, but at least modern, high budget golf courses are bio-enviro engineered and managed. Some of the same people don’t recognize, or admit the millions of acres worldwide being stripped in mining operations to support many unnecessary modern conveniences, not to mention the lithium and other metals / minerals to produce the supposedly “Green” EV’s, Wind Turbines, Solar Panels, Electronics and their components / batteries, etc. My point is, in the big picture, golf courses may not be pristine nature preserves without impact, but they’re also not at the top of the Environmental Boogeyman List either.

    • @tristenklein5940
      @tristenklein5940 6 місяців тому

      100% Spot on! GC building and Management is far more Environmentally friendly than and lithium ion, nickel, copper strip mining for the phony green energy scam! I’m not against mining by any means especially energy cost effective coal but the amount of necessary minerals for EV’s, Solar Panels and Wind Turbines is far more damaging to the environment than any fossil fuels energy (which is all natural elements of the earth) or golf course construction. Better than a hideous looking parking garage.

      Golf is actually the most developed, and hardest sport in the entire world. Literally the hardest game on earth. When professional sports athletes retire they retire to play golf, a sport which they will probably never even approach the skill level of golf pro's evwn though they are some of the best athletes of all time. Michael Jordan is one that comes to mind.
      When people say golf is boring, it tells me they never played it. There is no other sports challenge greater than golf on the planet

      @@chrism4008Exactly golf is also one of the oldest sports in existence worldwide. Some of the oldest courses built in the late 1800’s are located in Scotland and Ireland.

    • @tristenklein5940

      @bigdog8815you clearly are ignorant on the history of sports especially golf. Golf dates back to February 26, 1297 by the Dutch and the very first golf course built was St. Andrews Links in the 15th Century. Technically golf is the oldest sport in existence today. It also is a game of strategy, mathematics, science and skills, no two courses are the same nor play the same on any given day due to weather conditions which can change within minutes at the beginning, during and end of one game play. Also course management involves high level of turf agronomy, science, mathematics and finance knowledge especially when Green Construction exceeds $200,000 plus to build, multi million dollar irrigation systems and pump stations, gps that coordinates with the irrigation system weather stations and greens management systems along with high technology golf course drainage systems that are completely different all over the course from the fairways, greens, tees, sand traps, roughs etc.
