Hi Barton, Thanks for the tutorial. I had the same import problem for a while, but just found a solution: For the Import command to work properly, the Excel file name must be a single word, not multi word containing space or perhaps other special characters. That seems to be very stupid of SPSS, but try to rename your Excel file into something like "Mydata.xlsx" or "Mydata.xls" and try the import command again. It did work for me! Farhad Fatehi.
Most likely you have some non-numeric characters like commas or spaces in your columns. If SPSS sees even one of those then it treats the entire variable as a string. It's easiest to clean up the data in a spreadsheet like Excel, where you can quickly sort the data to see what's at either of the variables. Is that something you can do?
Hi Bart. This video was so helpful. I am still having some difficulty with a project I am working on. I am creating a survey in SPSS Data Collection. I want to pre-fill some fields in the survey with data collected in Excel last year. How do I upload the sample data to pre-fill the survey? I cannot find any clear instruction online.
I had the same problem as KatOfTheAli the first time. The next time, I saved the file as Tab delimited text (.txt) as directed by Dr. Poulson. But this time, instead of going with what popped up in the "what delimits your data?" question, which showed "tab" and "space," I unchecked "space" but left "tab" checked. This time it worked fine. Perhaps Dr. Poulson told us to uncheck "space" as a delimiter (or to only check "tab"), but if so, I forgot that part. Pardon if this is redundant.
Hi, Thanks for your videos, they have been really helpful. however I have a question about importing excel files. So the data I got is very messy because it is not formated by each person rather by questionairs. Like on one side are all the questions and the other side with the % of people who uses this product, etc. How do I import that into SPSS if I don't know the relationship between each person and their response? Thanks
@bartonpoulson Thanks for your reply. So basically one side are all the questions that are basically retail consumers questions like where do you shop the most store a, b or c? then they have percentage for each of the choices like 50% of people shop at store a, etc. So as you can see, I dont' have the people but only the quesitons and response. I don't even know if it's possible to do variables in this case. Please let me know what you think. Thanks
ok another question. I have mutiple SPSS files and only wants certain variables from each data and put all of them into one single sheet. but every time when I copy/paste, I only get the variables but lose the data sheet. is there a better way? thanks
the import happens and the entries are as String. But then when any analysis requires data to be numeric, there's problem. The moment, u make it numeric in variable view, all data lost and chaos prevails. What to do??
I have one more question if you don't mind. I am analyzing the model of the theory of planned behavior, a little bit adjusted: drive.google.com/file/d/0B_xwC7TJni7TOS1ZVzd6dHF2MTA/edit?usp=sharing Unfortunately I have nobody who can give me an advise what analysis to use. I know originally it should be SEM in AMOS but since I have no time for that, I used this analysis: Simple regression for relationship between Environmental Knowledge - Attitude and for Purchase Intention - Purchase Behavior. I also did multiple regression for Intention - five factors directly influencing it. Can you please tell me your opinion? Is it ok for this framework? Thank you so much for your time!!! Lubica
Hi Lubica: I saw the boxes on your diagram but no text. I think your approach should work fine. Make sure to also do a complete correlation matrix so you can see how your various outcomes are associated with one another. Good luck, Bart
Hi Barton, thank you for your reply! I am sorry that last ddocument didn't work, you should see the model now here without downloading: docs.google.com/document/d/1p7-QyKp9rZ-gZ0nM8U8etoo6I627hx0PGLclrPHBMVw/edit?usp=sharing Except regression and correlation should I do a reliability and validity test? And is it ok that I do separate regression between environmental knowledge and attitude and then another with attitude and other four variables (not environmental knowledge) with intention? I am sorry to bother you with this. my adviser is not very helpful and I need to finish it this week. Thank you very much for your help! Lubica

I've done everything that is indicated in this tutorial, but when I am done with the wizard the new data doesn't show up in SPSS. What gives?
Hi
I followed u but i did not get the result. i only found empty SPSS sheet. please help me
The video and instructions are amazing! But my result was a blank sheet :( you have any idea why?
Unfortunately, no. Maybe you have more than one sheet open and the data's on another one? Not likely, but worth a try.
Bart
I changed the version of SPSS to the better one and now it works. All of your videos are very good, very helpful, thank you!
