This is a wonderful airfield and well worth a visit. The people are very friendly and accommodating. The food served friday, saturday and sunday is fantastic.
Breighton airfield boasts an incredible array of vintage and historic aircraft.
Breighton is a great airfield to visit. A definite must to see all the vintage aircraft. It has a relaxed atmosphere, and the food is fantastic.
A tour of UK airfields that private pilots may visit with information about procedures and features etc is fantastically useful, - more please!!
Love the RAAF Ensign flying over the tower.
We'd love to have you visit our little aerodrome S50 in Washington State over in the Colonies ;) It's a great launching pad for airports with even more stuff to eat and do. Great video again!
Thanks!
What a nice field to visit! Would love to go there one day.
Kinda reminds me of EHHO, they have loads of vintage airplanes there.
Memories, loved flying into Breighton back in late 1990’s in my part owned Grumman AA5 & Slingsby T67 from Sherburn, back then it housed a Spiitfire, Hurricane etc in private ownership, great cafe too
My home airfield. An amazing place to spend the day when it's busy
Lovely vintage airplanes..
Thanks for entertaining us in 2023. Consider visiting ex-RAF White Waltham airfield - near Maidenhead and tucked under LHR airspace. Three grass strips, some wonderful original buildings and, of course, a cafe. 😆
Of course everything is beautiful in Yorkshire, people, countryside, flying, two lovely RAF flying schools not far away from where you are, Linton on ouse and church Fenton❤
Flew into Breighton last summer, lovely relaxed airfield and very friendly atmosphere. Definitely be back soon.
Another great video jon
yes the SD circuit overlays are very useful when visiting an unfamiliar airfield. Where can I watch the other airfields you reviewed in 2023
Stopped at breighton for the night while ferrying a bucker jungmann to northern ireland. lovely field with many different types.
Breighton looks like a great little airfield Jon. Loving these reviews... keep them coming, sir!👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Damyns Hall airfield in Essex is a nice little airfield to visit. Home of the Tiger Club, they also operate Pipistrel Electro aircraft there. Great little cafe too!
Thanks, another top quality video ... great !!!
Try EGBN sometime soon - at least before they try to build substandard housing estate over it! Still closest airfield to any city centre in the UK.
Thanks for another great review. So many places I want to visit in my Gyro 😊
Another great video ..... made all the more special, as you captured me in G-OJKM as i taxi past, on what is so far to date my furthest trip North from Southend-on-Sea
I agree, It's a brilliant airfield with a really positive and friendly vibe.
Wishing you and the family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Talk about being worried about the future of GA: They couldn’t think of ANYTHING better to do with the old tarmac runways besides build storage on them?! Ridiculous how little this country, that owes its freedom to aviation, values it. When are we going to start treating airfields like the critical national infrastructure they are (and always have been)?
Of course I don’t dare to evaluate the economics of old/ex-RAF airfields but on a personal note, it ‘kills’ me to see unused/blocked/barred (concrete/asphalt) former runways where the former layout is being destroyed. Then again the costs of maintaining what in war time was needed and funded is undoubtedly prohibitive under current non-war circumstances. But still…
Do you fancy dipping your hand in your pocket to help our historic airfields survive? Diversification is the key to survival, very sad I know but its the lesser of two evils.
@@evanleebodiesAs a private pilot who tries to visit cute airfields around the country whenever I can, I am dipping into my pocket to do so by providing them some of the business they desperately need as often as I possibly can. If you mean I should buy one, then I'm afraid that is lifetimes out of my budget....
Come to my airfield at sturgate, it has a really nice cafe a great runway and great people look forward to seeing you soon 😀
Are you in touch with the airfield management. Would be great to have an introduction.
@TheFlyingReporter im flying on saturday this weekend i can speak with the owner/ operator which is eastern air executive, I'm a member of lincoln aero club which is also based at sturgate, I don't have much to do with the management side but can certainly put you in touch, the airfield has alot of history, you can also find there contact information online thanks for your reply and hopefully see you soon 🙂
Lovely as always. There are times I wish I was n the UK and not here in Melbourne, Australia and this is one of them. The only question I would have liked to the answer to is the story behind the RAAF flag flying over the control tower.
Breighton was the home base for RAAF 460 Squadron, flying both Wellingtons and Lancaster bombers. Including the legendary G for George. Their endeavours and courage are not forgotten.
Another great review, Jon! :-)
*PLEASE* go to Old Warden. Such a beautiful aerodrome, and an incredible site. Let me know ahead of time if you do and the lunch will be on me! :)
I’m happy to. I’ve been awaiting a meeting with them.
Great video. Looking forward to you coming to Newtownards hopefully soon??? 😊
Hi. Thanks. Would love to. Are you on good terms with the Aerodrome management. An introduction would be really handy so I can discuss it with them.
@@TheFlyingReporter hi Jon I sure am. We would love to see you there. How can we get in contact with you and move forward with this?
@FlyingFergyMan please email in the first instance. pilot@flyingreporter.co.uk
Thanks Jon email sent with details. 👍
Great review & must go back again & see the new cafe building. Also love the “incontinent” ballistic missile history 💩😂
Yes, I noticed that as well! Brilliant
I’ve always had a soft spot for the Comper Swift , it was great seeing that one there . Did they only come in blue , I’ve only ever seen blue ones ? .
10:57 an incontinental nuclear missile base!? Truly a horrific thought 😂
Must have housed the Brown Streak, the replacement for the Blue Streak.
I like the aircraft with the Swastika on its tail at 8:51 😂
Svastika but G immatriculation. 🤣
Superb overview of to me unknown former-RAF aerodrome! Already suggested here in Holland to go there coming spring. Pls continue this series and as far as I’m concerned to the historic, somewhat perhaps less known ex-RAF fields, like e.g. Stow Maries, and hopefully many others!!
Great review as always.👍🏻👍🏻
But what's an incontinental missile? 🤣🤣🤣
Was Biggles available as a tour guide? 😅😅😅
I considered visiting. But it appears to cost £50 to access the cafe for a non-flyer. 😒
Things may have changed very recently since I last went back earlier in the year (maybe 6 months ago), but certainly when I was last there it didn’t cost anything for non-flying visitors to access the cafe! :) It’s always been free to access for all the years it was my home field in the past. Did you see this info online or in-person? It’s certainly worth a visit, you’ll love it! A fantastic little corner of aviation! :)
@@tomsutton6784 Its the impression that their website gives - that you need to be an associate member to access the field. But maybe its just one of those rules that is often bent in practice.
As mentioned in the video. The airfield is t open to walk/drive-ins, due to their insurance, but passengers flying in are welcome.
How awesome is that a RAAF flag flying in the UK.
