Glad you raised this issue. I've been to Sri Lanka several times and on each trip, I have refused to visit the turtle hatcheries, Pinnewala elephant sanctuary and the Pereheras/temple elephants. I've even tried to talk to guys walking around the blazing hot beaches with snakes and monkeys but to no avail. The commercial exploitation of anyone vulnerable (humans & animals) is not my cup of tea and as an avid traveler, I never support this. Would be great if you used your voice and influence for more causes concerning animals and the environment. Cheers :)

You guys should file a complaint against the lady from the turtle hatchery centre. Actions against such causes needs to be raised. They need to understand that the it's the right of the people to visit such places.
I'm personally going to share this news and try to prevent people from visiting them !!

Is it fair for the actors or participants in their creations to expect to be compensated? It’s a moral argument for which there is no simple answer. I know for a fact the artists of the music played in the videos are paid royalties (music used wo prior authorization will cause YT to pull the video). If artists are compensated, why not the participants?

Love your vlogs and my son and niece had a surf at Weligama. We stayed in Mirissa and then on to Tangalle to Ananya Beach resort which was lovely but quite remote from the centre of Tangalle. Wonder if you could cover these places on your south coast trip? Thanks for sharing beautiful images of SL - makes me want to come back immediately!

Harald Balder openly gave them some money without disclosing the amount.
She claims he paid her, not donated. Paid, 200k lkr to “film” the turtles.
I believe he gave them $1000 which he does often when he finds someone worthy to support. He made the wrong call here.

That's literally three minutes away from my place! Would have loved to show you around if I knew you guys were in town. There are few hidden gems in Mirissa, Ahangama and even in Dondra areas. And towards Tangalle, Rekawa, Hambantota areas, there are whole new kinds of eco systems to discover.

I did visit this place 4 years back and i remember this same lady was very rude to me and was being racist. When i reached this place, the first thing she asked me was if i was a Buddhist 😆

Thanks alot!! and yes Sri Lanka does have great Wifi connectivity in most parts of the island. The Western Province, Central & Southern have really good broadband connection. and you can always hotspot 4G connectivity in most other areas.

When this has calmed down, perhaps you could increase your own awareness and understanding by visiting this turtle sanctuary on your own without cameras, to see what they actually do and how the family live. Hi just a couple of comments which I hope are helpful to you
1) sometimes when your commentating and you have music also playing , the music is too loud and you can’t hear clearly what you are saying .
2) I’ve been to Weligama so I know where it is but I think it would be useful to identify where your location is say in relation to Colombo , people would like to find these places on the map so they can see how to travel there when they visit .

You are absolutely right about the turtle hatcheries, as shehan said "It's not about turtles, it's about money". people have to make money, no doubt about that but i cant agree this kind of behavior. I feel really shame about our people .

You guys are doing an amazing job in promoting tourism. Amazing videos😊😊. Torturing animals or human being is totally wrong. Financial exploitation using these poor creatures (Turtles, Elephants, Snakes , Monkeys or any living being) should not be allowed at all. People should leave all animals to live freely with mother nature. Mother nature will look after everything well. A sustainable model of any industry should be the core aspect. Govt should enact and implement proper laws to protect the rights of animals and human. Great job guys.
A good question with the start of the 13th minute. They definitely need a protection from the people who is willing to give it. Sea life has been continued get destroyed for many decades due to careless human activities. Sea is not safe for them anymore.

It's a shame that the Hatchery lady treated you in such an aggressive demenor...Harald made a spontaneous donation, he didn't pay to have to record his blog nor was he asked to, he gave it out of his own good will.
Shame. But then again we only got to see a small edited snippet of your interaction with her. Hopefully you guys were cordial and respectful towards her as well. Can you guys post the whole encounter/altercation with her so that we can actually get a proper idea of what happened? Well we'll never know. We were not there with you to see the whole ordeal. Donations is good but this is not the thing tht turtle hatchery owner should expect big amount of donation frm everyone those who want to visit/shoot film of tht hatchery, if thy want thy can charge fees to visit hatchery n it must be affordable to everyone n Donations is different subject.

Maybe they don't want any service from you. They might have enough donations to run the place so they don't want any more people invading their place with cameras pointing.
If they get enough donations already why do they wanna bring more people for a place that breeds turtles.? This is a hatchery, not a zoo right?
