Concert of Bobby McFerrin with special guest Thomas Quasthoff on July 1st 2008 at Wiener Staatsoper as part of Jazz Fest Wien - www.viennajazz.org/blog
Incredible!! What a pity, the great baritone Robert McFerrin Sr. didn't live to see and hear his son, Bobby, sing with one of the great living baritones of our age, Thomas Quasthoff. I find this performance so moving, on so many levels. Great job, guys!!!
Quasthoff was one of the best singers Germany ever produced, soooo sad that he recently announced that he would quit forever because his health wouldnt allow him to maintain the extraordinarily high standarts he set for his voice. What few people will gather from this video: He also used to sing very, very loud, i mean, lead roles in opera. Quasthoff was an opera star, perfect pitch and loud and clear.
kurtilein3 his lieder recordings are epic along with the jazz and standards work he did. His master classes online are brilliant. What a stupendous individual.
this is beautiful. and these examples help so much in giving people with serious disabilities a perspective, a goal to work towards. in classical music only quality counts, only who sounds best is the best, only the voice matters. So he did opera, big roles in opera, because his voice is just insanely perfect.
I do agree with many of the comments here. Thomas Quasthoff turns everything he sings into gold. And the association of these two great artists is a brilliant idea. I wish I could attend to this gig. Thanks for sharing.
controvercial as a lyrical singer Thomas Quasthoff involved in a cappella music with Bobby Mcferrin.United for the Jazz, this duet is really fascinating ...
Is there any way you guys from the JazzFestWienTeam could put this entire show available somewhere? Or provide me with a link where it is uploaded? I'd die to watch this complete and with better quality. Thanks!
This noted bass-baritone is a terrific artist, well-known. He has phocomelia due to his mother taking thalidomide before the transmitted defects were known. But it did not stop him from becoming a brilliant singer.
If that was really true, it would mean that he had no good vocal technique and vocal hygiene. For vocal endurance it doesn't matter what you are singing but it greatly matters HOW you do it.
+Harry Lee He's one of the victims of a drug called Contergan or Thalidomide. It was given to pregnant women in the 60s because it helped against their morning sickness, but it wasn't properly tested and led to thousands of children being born with severe malformations

@mixkassette Oh doch! :-)

It seems he was born to be a singer. The rest is irrelevant.
Robert Schumann: Im wunderschönen Monat Mai from the "Dichterliebe" cycle.
/watch?v=yfET0qhZMCo oh yes he is
Yeah he did :(
Que bacano
Great fun happy days
@eldrickenji
haha ????????
I heard a lot that things like this are the reason why he has ruined his voice…
Because of singing?
If that was really true, it would mean that he had no good vocal technique and vocal hygiene. For vocal endurance it doesn't matter what you are singing but it greatly matters HOW you do it.
Erstaunlich !!!
"재즈는 자유다".
"Davon bekomme ich Pickel"
super boys!!!!
