And just like that, Bobby takes you... in some strange trance, a weird travel in between reality and fantasy... in an awaken dream where your mind rides on the back of a butterfly visiting flowers in the meadow of your own guts... suddenly the sun shines brighter... and life, freed from burden of tasks, duties and anger, became a magical moment of peaceful heaven...
Thanks Bobby... for the drug free trip! ❤

"Close your eyes my friends, and imagine that you are sitting out in the grasslands of Africa, and there is a pathway nearby. A path walked for centuries by musicians of tribes of Africa, singing their songs walking through the plains, spreading happiness and music through the land as they pass by. It is just past dusk and the stars are shining bright. A gentle breeze blows past and you hear a stream in the distance. As each tribe passes with their own music, the evening is filled with sounds of joy, of nature, of the oneness of all humans and all tribes. Now listen to this music from this beautiful African grassland path."

The tone of this video going from upbeat and carefree to having several songs that felt very solemn and full of grief or even discomfort was such an experience
28:25 especially sounding like a funeral or even the experience of losing someone in that moment it makes me feel this sense of dread i can't really put into words

I've always wanted to hear the world through Bobby's ears! I saw him in the late 1980s and he's mesmerizing. During the show, he sat on the edge of the stage, asked the kids to laugh, and then improvised on the sounds of their laughter! Loved it! Loved him! Unique. Thank you for your music, Bobby. ❤🎵🎵

What I love about bobby mcferrin is that he's a genuine musical genius, and he also doesn't take himself too seriously. He likes to joke around and have fun even when performing a serious show, like swapping mics for fun and joking about it in the middle of singing, or having the choir mimic increasingly insane and incoherent sounds.

I will be experiencing the Circlesong School next week, as a present to myself for my 50th birthday on Tuesday. It was an impulsive decision, made when I wanted to go to a concert on a single day and August 16 is my birthday so I decided I would go to one of the shows during the week advertised as aug 15-19. I discovered that it was a week long affair and kind of like a seminar and didn't even think about it before putting my money down for student pass for the whole thing, including a 24 hour unbroken Circlesong session on Thursday/Friday. I'm crying right now as I listen to this and almost can't believe I am so fortunate that I am going to get to participate in something like this. It almost feels like fate.
A McFerrin concert is a bucket list item for me, and this is looking like it me a transformative experience, which is really something I need right now. The fact that it is happening on the week of my birthday is either fate or the happiest accident I could have hoped for. If it had been at any other time, I probably would not have been as ready to sign up for this event more than a 6 hour drive from where I live, but because of the timing, I felt like it was meant to be. I have no idea what to expect, but I suspect that it is likely to be wonderful. I

IT WAS PHENOMENAL!! I ended up having a lot of anxiety about going because the people I was supposed to stay with during the trip ended up cancelling on me because their son got Covid the night before I was supposed to leave. The sudden change in plans kind of threw me for a loop and I almost didn't go, as I wasn't sure I wanted to pay for a hotel last minute and stay alone. I stressed out about it for the first day I should have been there and It took someone I knew only from facebook talking me through leaving my house on the phone and for the first hour or two of my drive from LA. I missed the first day but as soon as I arrived I had an immediate ,sense of belonging. It felt like coming home.
One of the other participants described the first few days experience as "humility bootcamp" while everyone learned to get over their fear of being judged and be brave enough to make choices. I felt better about having missed that first day or so, because I have been doing that sort of thing long enough that I wasn't needing to be brought out of my shell so much and fully embraced the remainder of it and it was exactly what I needed to find myself again after having been lost for a while. I really found my stride in the wee hours of the 24 hour unbroken circlesong event when others were flagging a little, as I have been a vampire most of my life.
It truly was transformative. I highly recommend attending at least a circlesongs event if you are so inclined or even curious as that alone is 100% a unique experience worth having. The week-long seminar/school is aimed at teaching others how to lead one themselves, and I was lucky to have found someone starting a weekly circlesong close by my home in LA to cement what I learned when I got back. I haven't quite gotten the nerve to start leading one myself now that she has gone back to Brazil, but I am thinking about it...
Mr. McFerrin is an amazing energy to be near and it was a fantastic experience overall! If I have the money I might do it again, if offered....
