I watched your video with my 4.5 year old son and I thought you would like to hear his comments. While he did think the table was cool the stand out points for him were. 1) he really digs your intro music. He had me rewind it at least 5 times before we could even get to the build and 2 more times after we finished watching the entire thing. He also made note of your "COOL" Star-Wars R2D2 coffee cup that made an appearance right after the 4 minute mark. Thank you for including so much of who you are in every project.

I don't have children or, therefore, grandchildren but this is a great idea. I'm building one for my wife who likes to do jewelry crafts and this givers her tons of storage in the bottom and plenty of space for current projects in the top. Plus, I can leave it the family room and it "hides" all the "junk". Think I may upgrade the visible wood to make it a little more in tune with our decor. Basic construction the same but veneer to upgrade the look and possibly solid hardwood legs. Will also add a power strip and a gooseneck light for the fine detail work. Mine will have a cork top versus the Lego sheets but I'm considering seeing if there are Lego pieces that can be used to assist with the jewelry builds. A way of "blocking" pieces in place could be useful. Guess I'll need to get up to speed on Lego pieces now too. Great project that can be adapted for a multitude of toys, games, crafts, etc. Thanks for putting the project on your site.

A great follow-up to this build would be a Lego storage container system. Our family has 12 years worth of Lego collections, most are now in giant tubs. I'd love to see a design for storing all the different components. Wheels and tires go one place, 1x plates are separate from 1x bricks, which are separate from 2x plates and bricks, etc. Great design!

Hey Bob, amazing table. I am going to start making one, but since our space at home is limited I am planning to make a smaller version. Great video. Thank you! I built 10 tables over the Christmas break - slightly different design. The bandsaw tip was awesome. Using super 77 spray adhesive on both sides is definitely the way to glue these down. My only beef with the project is the cost of the baseplates -- my tables were about 24"x48" and I used the generic 10x10" plates from amazon so I needed 12 plates per table. In Canada, I was paying over $60 JUST for the baseplates to cover them.

    Hey Bob,
Another great video. I was thinking about your issue with the wiggle on the sliders, you could try picking up some small rubber rollers (probably for a toy plane or something since you'll need pretty small ones), then milling another slot into the inside of the table halves and putting the rollers below the sliders. That way you can have a constant space between the table and the top halves. The slots will keep the marks left by the rollers mostly concealed and will prevent the rollers from turning in the wrong direction.
