As aman of certain age😖🤭 past owner of 4 capris 1600 crossflows ... 1600 pinto...2000 v4....long long time since owned a capri im sitting here with a tear in my eyes....brilliant stuff sir...if lottery came up id have a 3000....before all your ferraris porsche lambos.... happy rebuilding
Brilliant get her done lots of work and yes dudestock ll sounds like a plan deffo would like to attend again
Being a Capri nut I had all the 3 Ltr cars in the 80,s , being Mk1 3000e mk2 3 Ltr Ghia and S ,and mk3 3 .0s and a 2.8 but yours is the one that eluded me ,ut , which a friend owned being the Mk1 1\2 we called them with twin headlights big back lights etc , it was a metallic blue with a silver thick stripe down the side starting out of the 2 grills on the side and ending at the start of the front wheel arch with a a matching silver bonnet bulge I no the purest out there will slate me but that must of been the nicest one I've ever seen ,it looked like it came that way it was a popular car at the time in our area as the 3 box as we called them were the main petrol heads choice and was lucky to be around so many about 6 to 8 people I knew ran them all the V6 cars, sorry for the waffle everyone some great memories came flooding back seeing your Capri Cheers all 👍
Thanks for sharing so glad you bought it and are sharing its return to road use what an amazing find
Most definitely a great move buying the MK1 1973 FORD CAPRI GXL 3000cc
and with all the spares too..... what a fantastic find guys.
I bought a red 1973 Capri 3litre GXL in the autumn of 1978. (So it was less than 6 years old at the time)
I was made aware that it had just had a respray, so thought nothing about rust.
About 6 months later the rust exposed itself: 2 new front wings and 2 new sills were required to fix it!
How this example has survived so long is nothing but a miracle..
P.S. Mine had a black vinyl roof covering which I assumed was standard equipment for the GXL
I knew of a red 3.0 GXL in Heywood Gtr Manchester in the early 80,s twin headlights those looked fantastic in the MK1 facelift cars Cheers👍
Still have mine.its a 1973 Sebring red 3.0 litre gxl with the vinyl roof and sunroof. We don't have anywhere near the rust issues down here in NZ so theres plenty of survivor Capri's.
@@tobydimmock1224 I had the 3.0 GTE 72. I was under the impression that all GXLs were autos. Is yours auto_I had mine from about 79 to 81, when kids came along.I tried to think of every way possible to fit a pram in the boot. Pre stroller days back then. Unfortunately, had to sell it, because of that and bought a PI Trumpit.Mine had really low gearing and would top out at 100mph at 6000rpm. michael NZ
Very glad you Fella's ending up buying this. Kinda 'had a felling' that you would. Lots of these still out here in New Mexico where I am at the moment. There's a Black '76 V6 Capri Automatic for sale for $550,still has the original Black Vinyl top on it. Red Paint Black Interior. Lost of 70's Mod-Cons jacked-up rear Suspension(!).
Thanks buddy 👍
I knew you couldn't resist! Congrats! At one point I owned two '73 V6 2600cc Capris and one '72 2000cc "Pinto engine" OHV 4 cylinder (all USA versions). Fond memories of some great cars. Enjoy!
Thank you 😊 👍
In 1974 I bought a 3000 GXL in Diamond white with a black vinyl roof.1 owner 11000 miles on clock.I loved that car and stupidly sold it only 1 year later but needed money to start up my small business.Subsequently I bought a red 3000 S Mk 2 which was inferior in my opinion.I will be following your rebuild so please give it the attention to detail it deserves!!!!
Thanks, willendeavour ro do so 👍
Thanks for saving it. A '73 V6 was my first car in 1973 and I loved it. So did the woman I eventually married, so it WAS a great car. Mine was yellow. Still the best instrument panel switches ever, the clock nacelle was awesome and the map light set up was great. Crude suspension but it was fast for the day.
Keep posting!
Thanks for sharing!
Looks a nice rolling shell i wish I had the space to do one up i love mk1 capri's best shape ford made.🥰😍🤩
Great Buy, Look into the history of that Capri, I think it has an interesting past.
Will do 👍
Hey Mano It will make a great project. Good idea to just bolt it all together and see what is missing (hopefully nothing) and what is spare. the car looks pretty solid. All the best, Mart in Solihull.
Looking forward to seeing work on the new project, good luck with everything 👍
I would to have one these cars I have some fond memories my oldest brother had one back in 1985 he let me drive it
I think rusty red or whatever u call him/her will be a great addition to the fleet.. fair play and bless u all
Well done for saving the car Mano will be great to see it come back to life 👌👍
old fords never die, they just go rusty, then 40 yers later worth a friggin fortune! if your near Teesside bring it over and we'll blast it.
Thanks Kevin :)
Kate Will always be number 1. Get the other one done and punted to get the cash in for Kate. Love seeing you and the vids again.
Thanks buddy 👍
Your like Jesus bringing Lazarus out of his tomb , mk1 caps are in my opinion the most beautiful car ever made , good on yer pal .
Thanks mate 😊
Nice to have a wagon you can relax on….a little……… where Kate’s a bit of a beast to work on……. You can breeze between the two 😎
Hope so Colin 👍
Just wow I miss my old Capri's Great start.
Thanks Robert 👍
I'm so glad you've bought the Capri, It's a nice straight car and I'm kinda hoping that you will finish it with a respray as it deserves it and would be well worth it. You can get a new Vinyl roof from Aldridge Trimming, they even have one for the models with a sunroof.
Thanks Buddy 👌
Good idea to put Kate on the back burner and press on with this one . Neither project will be easy but this one is clearly easiER , and in turn will provide knowledge and inspiration for Kate .Liking the idea to red oxide the bonnet and boot and Matt lacquer whole car .
Well done in obtaining it , from the previous video it was seemed it was a tough decision for Mel to decide to sell it , but rest assured it is in good hands .
Nice one Mano glad you got it am sure you will get it Running mint. You guys will make the car great. It always good to have change and a rest mate.👍👌
Thank you Ali 😊
Wow! - You actually went and bought it, I am so impressed! This has to be a gift to help you rebuild Kate. But just don't let it become a distraction! Kate is your 8 hours, This Orange Goblin is your 2 hours overtime!
Is it seriously Red Oxide - genuinely, on YT it looks a sort of dusty Muscle Car Orange. Some paints react with red oxide. So I don't know how well it would do with modern 2 pack paints.
Yes the parts haul alone was worth it. But now you have another project.
Get on with Kate. Your new car will show you the way for the sheet metal on Kate, make cardboard patterns out of cereal packets, (it's about the same thickness) and then you can cut steel.
Getting Kate into Right Hand Drive mode must be this summer's project. Just my thoughts!
HOABL
Thanks Tommy , will do 👍
I been looking for an capri for years, 3.0 ghia, met blue, reg. Vla 142m, i believe,
Great video and good luck for new project
Thank you David 😊
Glad you decided to buy it, they are rare cars now and going up in value.
Thanks Steve 👌
Bloody good find Mano, all that kit as well. Someone's eating their heart out, well done
Thank you Jimmy 😊 👍
Good score Dude. A cool car . Heaps of parts. Well done. Work on that one. I would.Kate can Wait.
Thanks 👍 we'll see what is what and where to to start. Hopefully, both together LOL!
Another great vid Dudes, Looking forward to the ongoing restorations. Cheers.
Thanks Aussie 👌
“These are probably the keys for the car” …. Any Ford key would open the doors on my old MK2 Capri 🤣
absolute beauty and nearly 50 years old nice 1
Thanks James 👍
I had one of these in 81. It was awsome in the corners, mine was a 4banger. In fact I out ran a state trooper he started chasing me right after the Hampton n.h. toll i95 south to Boston. I think he took rte 1 and I took i495 and lost him. I had it up to 118.
Very cool to hear 😎
Keep up the great work 👍like the new addition. 🚗
Thanks Arthur 👌 😊
If I won the lottery a Mk1 Capri 3000GXL would definitely be in my garage. Nice one dude I look forward to seeing it come together.
Thanks Neil 👌
I want that 3000! That was my first car 🚘…
Great project.
Thanks Lee 👌
You can't say no to an opportunity like this. All the spare parts alone are a treasure.
Greetings from South Africa
In the eighties I had a Capri Perana - orange with black interior
For those who don't know - the Perana was a Capri on steroids - it had a 302 cubic inch 5 litre V8 engine
Mine also had a Holley 4 barrel carb which was imported from the States
This was bolted to a four speed manual box - such was the technology available at the time
She cruised comfortably at 200 kmh - with no sense that the engine was revving too high
Braking and cornering - however - were quite terrifying
As for fuel consumption - it was quite common to use a whole tank in one weekend - but fuel prices were quite reasonable in those days
My current ride is a Japanese hatch - with more technology than Apollo 11 - and I love her dearly - but I sure do miss the sound of a V8 engine at full throttle
Having said that - I also maintain that the 3 litre V6 is one of the finest engines that Ford ever produced
Mano - I reckon you have hit the jackpot here
Thanks for bringing back such great memories and a deep sense of nostalgia
I am really keen to see the finished product
Cheers
Thank you Greg, I appreciated your comment, and it's good to hear your experience.
Emmanuel
my mk one was gold on the sides brown roof bonnet and boot,1.3gt mpu 874j,dudes i"m glad shes home.................i need to come up and have a nosey,g-man too,

Well done man!
Nice one Mano please you managed to purchase the Capri 👍👌
Thank you Nick 😊
Bloody fantastic well done 🤢❤️🚗👍🔧
Thanks Graham 👍
Very cool! Glad you got it! Shared on fb!
Thank you Daniel 😊
Great you bought the car looks a good one and a rare model.
Thanks Mike 👌
@@Classiccarbscouk I hope you keep it, i had a pre facelift 2ltr GT XLR a few years back i wish i hadnt sold, i even liked the V4 it had. still got old fords now though.
I knew you blokes would get around to a V6 sooner or later. It is probably the type of model you should have lavished your time, effort and money on from the beginning, but that is hindsight.
that is great news!
Very nice chap's 👍
Thanks buddy 👍
You would be mad to let that slip through your hands !!!! Well done you lucky ******* !!!!!
Lol! Thanks 👌 😊
Great pick up. Those wheels are worth a tonne of money. Check the rear. If they say "Capri" they are genuine RS3100 rims.
Will do, thanks Glenn, you are partly responsible for this new rusty love project 😊👍
Genuine rs alloys were flat faced . those on car are dished probably rs 2000 or Lazer. From former owner of 6 gxl my last one still survives SDA10L Sebring red . Ray
Very nice car ,get her done then you can spend time on Kate 👍👍👍👍
Pity not a resto as it’s a good few quid when done and it’s a good base 😎
sound stuff, glad you got it, well done.
Thanks Bill 👌
Hey Mano been watching since day u got Kate and have say loved every minute of it. You've come along way with Kate and would be wrong now to ditch her and start ur new project.. I'd finish Kate and then get other project started.. It looks solid so won't turn to rust lol.. Kate was what got u going and deserves all the blood sweat and tears.. She'll look amazing once completed.. So don't give up now.. Get her done.. Great content tho Mano.. All the best
Agreed 👍
Hi I think it would be a great idea to name the Capri after the lady you bought it from (Mel) as a thank you to her untrusting her pride and joy with you.
I know if things had been different she would have kept the Capri.
Being a car buff myself I am looking forward to your bringing it back to life.
Kev Devon.
Kevin, it's not 2hrs ago that Mel or Melanie was discussed as the name for this car.
Reading your comment, is re-enforcing this sentimental connection, and i got to say , i like it.
Thanks for your comment and suggestion :)
Emmanuel
Knew you’d buy that. Well done lads 👌👌👌👌
You did!! 👍😎
Good find mano hopefully you won't be pull starting the engine lamo I'm jealous good luck putting it back together keep it I'll be watching dude 😉 👌 😎 minty
Feel sad for Mel. letting it go after so long must have brought back many memories. Hope she gets to see it again, , back on the road.
I feel the same way 👍
Ah shit everytime I watch your videos the weather is so crap... We are in the middle of the most horrible winter here in Melbourne Aus we got that dark shit cloud for weeks on end to remind us of the mother country .. But nowhere near like what you got .. 17 deg coming this Monday!!!
Long live the king .
well done lads another great project just keep chipping away it will happen
Thanks David 👍😊
The Capri is in good hands and found a great place with her sister Kate.
Great video Mano, I'm wrapt you bought it. I'm looking forward to more videos on both Kate and 'Her Evil Son'!👍
And get it re sprayed as well interview original color what it was before At least somebody's got it and put it back togeto original speck it was
Big Capri shaped lego kit 😍 chuffed for you mate, what a buy. Keep us posted with lots of vids on it please 😁😁😁 congratulations on owning another fantastic machine 👍🏁🏁🏁
From past experience finish one project before you start another or it doesn’t become fun just a headache 🤕
What a find 👍
O .... dudes ... . Yeah baby
What a beauty.... you know it
Hope your all well dudes?
All good Kev, lots of stuff in the workshop, will tidy up over the next week or so, and see what is what with the capris
Love a mk1 Capri, can’t wait to see what you do with this ❤️
You and me both!
Sympathetic restoration is the term I think. My father owned a 3ltr GXL back in the 80’s in canary yellow. Love a nice Capri.
Yep, agreed Mark, sympathetic restoration sounds about right :)
Sooo glad you bought this 👍🥳 ! Great project for you guys 👍, looking forward to this one 👍
Sorting the GXL first will give you a boost and money going forward to finish Kate 👍
Great video mano, I'm glad that you purchased the GXL, very rare car 👍
I wonder if the fuel cap is aluminium/steel corrosion. If it is, then that moan I had about RJ the bike guy talking about his obssession with removing seized bike seatposts and raving on about apple vinegar may not have been a waste. Dowsing it in some rust converter may be a waste of time. Getting a vibrating air-powered tool on it may work ok. Good video...great use of music.
Thabk you Mr Stephen. So, douse it in vinegar you say?
@@Classiccarbscouk I'm not sure it is aluminium and steel - you could just try to work it free with the pipe wrench. I think a vibrating tool against it maybe with a thick cloth over it to stop it from being marked would beok- tough to say. I wouldn't bother with the vinegar - do you have another from the same era so you can tell what is corroded against what?
@@Classiccarbscouk I'm sure it won't be the ignition key nor the door/boot key. I would be looking for another key possibly with a wider piece that you hold. Petrol caps at this time did not have the standard car keys to open them but one specifically for the cap. Keep on spraying a bit of WD40 into the lock and when you've found the right key then gently work the key into it.
Great job Mano. sometimes you need another project to break the monotony of job that is taking longer than you want. i know that one all to well. i look forward to the upcoming video's
Thank you Ken 😊 👍
Bostin . Good find sir .
Thanks Kevin 👍
if that new capri was mine i would fix the rust and spray the whole car matt black then put it back togeather then i would black out all the rear windows and call it Satin Beauty for a name
Magic, real glad you bought this !!
Keep spraying WD-40 in the petrol cap and keep turning the key every now and again and the same with the drivers door and passenger door and boot lock keep trying it to work it loose after while rebuilding do it up and wear your pros and cons up before you do it which will need to get done first basically i’d say finish Kate first started living in between jobs
Will do, thanks Ian 😊
Nice one mate, its deffo gone to the right man, enjoy your new wonderful project, so pleased for you😉😊
Thanks Andrew 👌 😊
Yasu Mano! great work!
