    Hi Billie! Excellent videos! I've got a question concerning the /r/ sound. In videos made by BBC learning English and the book 'English Pronunciation in Use' , they pronounce this sound by retracting the tongue with the tip of the tongue not touching any part of your mouth, putting your lips forward and making them rounded, while others pronounce this sound as /rə/. I'm sooooo confused and it'd be great if you can answer my question. Much love and thanks! ❤

      Hi Bella! Yes, the description of how to produce a /r/ is correct. If you have a look at my channel page, you can find a full long video about this sound called 'Approximant Sounds'

      This explains the sound in more detail! 😊

    Hi! Is Coda the same as a tail? Thanks!

    • @BillieEnglish
      @BillieEnglish  Рік тому

      Hi Cecilia, not they are not. We use onset, nucleus and coda when speaking about language on word level. The term 'tail' is used when talking about language on intonation level, usually involving more than one word (tail = all the syllables after the nucleus): The confusing part is that we use 'nucleus' in both because it's always the main accented syllable.
      I hope this helps!
