Possibly the ring is to commerate a tour of duty by a soldier in the Middle East, or the 1st World War. Baghdad was captured in 1917 and the Armistice was made with the Ottoman Empire in 1918. Just guesses. Dates fit nicely in.
Great finding, we always search when people loos there items. So we know that we can help them get it back as volunteers. But when u find some like this hard to track down the owner or relatives
Maybe there's a connection too WW1? At 11th March 1917, the British army captured Baghdad from the Ottoman Empire. In 1918 the war ended in Europe as well as in the Middle East. There you have the Numbers 11, 17 and 18; but I do agree that it doesn't make much sense. Maybe a 11th british battalion of some kind, that was garrisoned in Baghdad from 1917 to 1918? Still doesn't explain the existence of a second ring. Maybe it is connected to a later event at which veterans from that area decided to create some remembrence rings. Two identical rings on two different fields can be explained with one farmer owning both of the fields; if they are lost at the same place, the farmer may have put them on the fields with the manure. Much more space to do research for you! :-) (sorry, english isn't my first language)
Hi, Aku! Yes, after some investigation, you are spot on. The first numbers aren't actually a '11', but '19' which has scratched away a bit. Others have done some research on this for me and have come to the same conclusion. Thanks for looking into it! Just a little further info: The fields I'm detecting in are in a place called Elham in Kent. Stationed here were many Canadian troops in WW1, as there used to be a railway there, that would take you right to the coast. I've found loads of Canadian buttons etc in the field. I think it's probably a Canadian soldiers ring, who served in Baghdad. This also explains the other ring in a near by field. Your English is great by the way :)
@@Addictedtobleeps Great that you were able to solve the puzzle! It might be worth a try to find out more about the engraving. The ring itself looks standardized and was probably engraved by a goldsmith who ordered a larger number of them to do the finish. Was it done at Mesopotamia ? The design looks european, but more 1940/50ish to me than World War I. But besides that, I can't imagine that the average soldier had the money to buy a gold ring right after the war. If it was done later, you might be able to find a local goldsmith. If it was done at the mid of the century, an assistant of the goldsmith might still be alive and able to tell more. On the other hand ... no hallmarks, right? Doesn't sound european. But in the 1950s, Baghdad was a modern city of western style ... maybe they made a trip back, bought the rings there and also visited Elham in Kent again atferwards? Once again, a really, really cool find! (My buddy and I found a wedding ring on one of our fields at sunday. Having the size of a female ring, the engraved initials H. B. and the date of May 1966, we needed like two minutes to research that it belonged to the farmers wife. She lost it in 1970 and was totally over the moon, but I would have preferred something historically significant, just as your ring is. There's so much more to find out for you!).
There are many who are born and bread in England that could explain half of what you have let alone in real English, your English writing is very good 👍
Awesome piece of yellow mate. That one thing is a glass cutter. Little wheel cuts the glass & the notches break it but the handle is broken off. Very nice half crown.
The thing you found at the beginning, is a doupter. For putting out candles. Hangs on a long or short stick. Just incase uhavent found out what it is. Im pritty sure my freind. Good luck.
Congratulations!! beautiful, and we detect in Romania, Eastern Europe, right here where Dracula was born, where he fought or took important battles in the 2 world wars, where the Ottomans were defeated, and the list could continue.
The first item you siad was like a dalek from Dr Who is a brass castor which would of been attached to a chair leg, possibly victorian.I know this because I am an upholsterer. Thanks for the entertainment.
Kris - an outstanding hunt! Glad to see you back on it! Please post anything else on the ring that you find out as it is of interest for sure! Take care and H.H.!
A little late comment reference the ring, My father-in-law was in the gulf war in the 90s and bought gold while he was there, he told me their gold was pure by law, no carats...I'll bet the 17-18 was the years a soldier's tour of duty in 2017-2018. My thinking anyway. GREAT FIND dude
Hey bud! Very close. It's actually 1917-18, which is when the British army took Baghdad. The area I'm detecting in had loads of Canadian tropps in around WW1 time (I find a lot of badges and buttons etc) So, we think it was probably a Canadian soldiers ring. Will do a video update soon!
Nice to see you back and swinging dude. Finally after a year of searching I've managed to secure a 70 acre farm permission, using you tips from a permission vid. Thanks to you I'm off to hunt for goodies!!
Lol Kris, I was shouting at the screen on that ring lol... I found something a bit similar but mine had Egyptian type markings... a huge man's "gold" ring stamped up 18k. It turned out to a just a gold plated ring that the tourists get tricked into buying when on holiday. Still a chunky beast though. Cheers mate.
Really good to see you back Kris, so pleased you're well enough to do some detecting. That second object reminds me of an old brake fluid reservoir off a Tractor. In regard to the ring, bear in mind that it might be foreign gold, therefore it wouldn't be "Hall marked". Most foreign gold is 14ct 18ct and 22ct, all the best to you as always.
@@davetaylor812, yes I agree, it could be a fuel pump, or even a very early carburetor, without the whole thing being intact I guess we won't know for sure?
What a find , beautiful , definitely a veterans Gold ring and with considerable age too , i'd hazard a guess at WW1 perhaps the mesopotamia campaign Baghdad 1917. Could account for the 17-18 date. 1917-1918. A beautiful thing indeed , well done , you deserve it buddy.
Pretty sure UA-cam unsubscribed me. I just remembered about your channel and thought I would come back and see how your doing!! Keep up the good work mate, one of the best detecting UA-camrs out there.
hmmm.. you should find the guy with the other ring and have the two rings touch eachother.. if you blow shit up, according to movies, you prove timetravel :-P
Good to see you back and very well done on the gold. Hasn't been a very good few months for me unfortunately, been hit by the D&A bug so really haven't felt like doing any videos. Hopefully should be back at it soon, got some new land with possible potential... I hope!🤞 All the best buddy.
Thanks dude. I'm getting there. It's just getting the enthusiasm to go out in the first place I'm struggling with. Been out with Jane a couple of times & been doing the beach a bit, got a new Whites TDI Beach Hunter, awesome machine! I'll be alright. 👍💪
When that ring first came out I thought it was gonna be something epic! Still a beauty though! Arabian Gold!! Nice to see you back in action after the injury mate 👍
Cracking video and great to see you back. My guess on the ring is a soldiers ring and the dates must be something to do with their tour of duty, or a regimental set of numbers perhaps. ATB MMMD
Top vid as always. Good to have you back, Kris. Banished from our Smart TV and Chromecast, so watched on my 'putah, but at least that means I can comment!
Very cool Kris! I agree with a few of the peeps here. That date is three days after the Anglo-French declaration after a brief inter web search. Possibly when one of the soldiers finally left for home? A bit of a commendation of the Mesopotamia campaign? I don’t think it’s a faker. Awesome to see you back at it and very happy the wrist is on the way to be fully mended! Take care and congrats again on the gold!
Did you follow up the Baghdad ring, it sure looks gold and may not be hallmarked. Most replies here suggest it could be from a soldier which I’d agree with but rather than from First World War i’d say it’s more recent as the gold is very bright and not dull.
I tend to agree. There are a few pieces in the Imperial War Museum that were marked "Baghdad 1917-18" to mark the fall of Baghdad that include a skyline of Baghdad with palm trees.

Yellow thing looks like a glass cutting tool. Glad you are on the mend buddy!
I think you're right. It looks like a glass cutter with out the handle.
Definately
yes it is a daimond glass cutter head, in fact those two slits are meant to insert glass there when cutting short pieces to have better leverage
That's an awesome find that ring, hopefully you find out more about it and let us viewers know. Thanks for sharing!

I’d say it could be a veterans ring for a tour of Baghdad . Not sure if the army base is still open near you.

That first thing you dug up is the cup off the bottom of a furniture leg and it should have a wheel on the bottom.

Are most of your hunts with the c-scope.?
I’m looking into an equinox800. (Vlf)
Also a used pulse induction.
Now these can be extremely expensive.
But seems as the c-scope is a P.I
Obviously not in the same league as say a gpx for specifically hunting gold.
My question is would you recommend a c-scope as a secondary detector, with the sole purpose of looking for gold related item’s. Exclusively for beach hunt’s.
Advice appreciated.👍
Hey Kris mate. Great to see you out again! Bloody Nora!!! What a stunning gold ring pal, gorgeous. Congrats matey!!! It’s probably an Arabian time machine?!! 😀👍🏻 Take care, GL&HJ. Deano.
