Will this work for the clear ktm tanks that go yellow/brown? After searching and searching I cant find a clear solution on how to clean them up. Also, you can't buy a standard replacement tank.
I think in going to wet sand mine with different grit. You need to spend hours sanding the tank.. Then when I get it smooth I'm going to do the heat gun treatment. Then I will follow that up with a good quality plastic polish and buffer and buff the hell out of it to make it bright and shiny.
I got a tank off of a Hodaka Thunderdog 250 that needs help. Definitely older than yours. The color is faded and it's a bit rough. I think your procedure might do the trick! Thanks
No sorry, for that it could be mesh welded, if not I'd replace it with an OEM one, depending on the bike you can probably find one used and in good shape for a fair price 😊
Yea that doesn't last at all. Don't put any heat, just sand it down with different grids and that's it. Maybe a little polish but it doesn't do much either. Under no circumstances paint it or apply clear coat cus it will bubble up like crazy. The tank breathes through the plastic, in other words fumes of gas penetrate the plastic. You want a perfect looking tank get a new one, no other way around. Plastic degrades. But they do last just don't do this heat nonsense. Fail on this one bud.
I painted my exc 2005 tank, but now that I have decals for it I think il just have to remove the paint cuz its starting to bubble. And I dont want my decals to fall of

I don’t see why not, I was told that this makes tanks brittle but I went down on her quite a few times and she is still holding up till this day.

Has it cracked yet? Does clean up nice but doesn’t last long and makes the plastic brittle.. I’ve done it on a few tanks and they’ve all cracked
Damn 😬 I've never had that happen
Awesme Vid man
Thanks 🤙🏿
Will this help someone's bike If the tank is broken off where the gas cap would screw on, that piece with the threads came off stuck in my gas cover.

I'm thinking about doing this. Of course there were comments that indicated "trouble". So how is it holding up? Do you still recommend this process?
I wanna know too
It’s still holding up well
Awesome!
I did this with a car bumper bar but it didnt last.
Probably a different material 🤷🏿♂️

To each his own 🤷🏿♂️, this is a method I learned from an old timer and it's never let me down 🤙🏿
