I did this part for sleigh ride a few weeks ago for our Christmas Concert. I wore a Grinch costume while running around the auditorium during the song. It was awesome!!🎅🎄
My director had me dress up in a pink bunny costume. The audience loved it

my band director a few years ago borrowed slapsticks from all the middle and high schools and everyone in the band had one and played at the same time. Chaos.
Played Sleigh ride this year for high school Christmas concert…. The blister in the exact center of my palm from playing sleigh bells is REAL and it HURTS

Edit: the bells/xylophone started “slapping each other” and at the end they both slapped each other and fell over
This year we told our guy doing the slap stick to run around and jump as he slapped it. The first time he did it was the day of the concert. He ran, he jumped, and he let go of the slapstick. It flew out of his hands and hit the floor. For the second slap, he didn’t even have the slap stick in his hands, so he just clapped really loud. Luckily he recovered and jumped for the other slaps that he had left to do.

One of my all time favorites during concert season...especially the jazz break.
One of my good friends and I played Sleigh Ride for our HS concert, and he was the one to do the whip crack. He wore a Santa costume but that’s because he was also the narrator for a previous song, Santa The Barbarian. Fun times

My small middle school band had me on both the slap and snare, but luckily we were playing super slow bc middle school, but we didn’t have an actual slap stick, so we just put handles and a door hinge on some 2x4s

Our percussion section has a special we play this. The people in the percussion section that don't play something for the song all go in the audience. Everytime the slapstick is played. A different person in the audience plays it. Them for the last one everyone plays it. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen.

My stepfather has actually done whip work to this song before.
We tried very hard to play the slap stick part with one hand so it looked more like a whip. Occasionally it worked, but mostly we managed to whack ourselves with it. Had to use two hands for the concert.
