I've always said that you haven't heard the capabilities of a synth until you've heard a demo from Katsunori Ujiie and that goes for even if you already own the synth. Watching and hearing what a true master does with a synthesizer gives you a much better understanding of what it can really do. Thank you.
Luke Kage
Yeah but he is too funky and doesnt go to outer space levels with it.
Well... maybe not as much as id like to.. the part at 19:19 is nice tho.
I totally agree. 僕もそうと思う。
Spiral of Sound no such thing as “too funky”.
James Reeno
Mmm. Now that i think about it, Herbie Hancock was both funky and in outer space. Haha
Spiral of Sound Still is! Just saw him last year first time.
I love this man
Didn't expect to see you here

Thank you!!
Best synth channel on UA-cam. I love your stuff man
Came for the Prologue. Stayed for Mr. Katsunori. Great demo and playing skills!
Absolutely in love with my Prologue 8. Bought just a month ago already changed the way I produce for the better. It keeps giving me so many ideas and inspirations. Some people say it has bad limitations such as only one filter, one LFO and no sequencer but it's built in a way that you can get phenomenal sounds by just digging deeper and get around those limitations. About the sequencer I'm not a big user of it as I use MIDI programming. Cheaper than most pro analogue synths, amazing key-bed and built. It's a beast that sounds as powerful as a DSI or a Moog.. Not to mention the beautiful effects, 6 + 1 user bank, the Prophet 6 has only 2 which sound ok. And the fkn wavetable engine.. wow
On board Sequencers are over rated, unless they're like 1000 events. I still use twenty year old voyetra midi to record and it does everything, but is sooo much faster than current software.
@@PeterWalkerHP16c I have the minilogue XD with a sequencer and it's pretty weak.
“Amazing keybed“ without aftertouch? The Prophet Rev 2 has an amazing keybed.
I love the modern sounds, clean and just enough sizzle! Great stuff
its nice to watch a pro just go to town with one of these… inspiring and now i want one
このビデオを作ってくれてありがとうございます。僕もこのシンセサイザーが好きです。来月東京と京都と大阪に行きます。シンセサイザーの店に行きたいです。じゃあ、またね。サム。
The brass patch at 3:45 is phenomenal! That richness in timbre is the reason I ordered one.
English sub-titles will soon...
Arigato Gozaimasu
This was so cool I watched in Japanese and understood nothing :p
そうですね
I can't wait!!!
Glad the translation sub-titles are up. I learn a lot just by watching his reviews and reading the subtitles
After many horrible prolongue demos where all is just noise, finally here our dear friend created REAL MUSIC from it... !!
I hated it until I heard this demo. Now I want to check it out in person.
Music is subjective.
What it lacks in features it makes up for in sound. And it still has a lot of features. IMO, this is the best and best sounding poly on the market right now besides maybe the OB-6.
Haut Strange OB6 kills this sonically.
James Reeno In your opinion, sure. I think they’re in an even keel. Both have their own unique sound and feature sets. After that, taste is subjective. I would love to have an OB-6 but I wouldn’t dare sell my Prologue for one.
@@HotStrange you got it in one. Taste is subjective. Some Keyboardist's hate the sound of the original OB-8 never mind the OB-6. I personally look at what a synth can do and if I can hear it enhancing what I do. Both the OB-6 and the Prologue -16-v fall into that category
Haut Strange ob6 kills this.
Haut Strange i did just that. Sold it and replaced it with an ob6...prologue’s tone did not blow me away. Flimsy build too. The ob6 has that “wow” factor on all levels.
"Arab museum of this delicate feeling fat", and "exquisite cat warm", according to auto-translate.
gallen ar is that not what he’s really saying? 🤔
The Japanese language can be quite poetic at times
Helio specs add tomato juice. Filter analog James Bond theme song.
Katsunori UJIIE, you had to point out it was made in Japan. I'm glad you did! This has to be the best demo and you really do a wonderful job on all your videos. I always have to come back to your channel because you've become a part of my musical family. Now since I'm a drummer I have to recommend that you improve on the beats, lol, maybe add compression etc. Love your channel!!!
Katsunori UJIIE, the black belt master of key players
Getting funky with ujiie san, awesome as always.
Awesome review. Thanks so much. Now i have to get one 🎹 👍👍👍
何と太く艶やかな音なんだろう…!
Katsu, you're really great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Korg is bringing the balls to the wall!!!
AMAZING! Great Job
I really enjoyed this. Thanks
Musictrack... Now in full HD!
Long time no hear from, thanks for the review. 😎
I was barely able to afford a Minilogue, but this thing is practically begging me to buy it. Ugh, not for $1500 though. We're not all rich, but its such a beautiful instrument.
You're fine with the minilogue for now, master it and then if you can buy this.
Isaiah Teerink $1,500 is very reasonable.
Honestly your better off with the Minilogue. They will bring out something that has everything this is missing before too long.
Its partly because they know people will pay the prices due to that hype.
@Martin K Dodd Channel compared to back in the 80's and 90's the price of synths and music equipment has come right down. High end flagship will always seem expensive but we have a lot more entry level and mid level instruments that can do a more than adequate job. The Prologue even with it's shortcomings isn't entry level. The Prophet -6 which has less voices, no multi engine but does have after touch and a sequencer costs almost £1,000 more than the Prologue. I think that puts things more into perspective. Both are VCO synths. DCO synths and digital synths with analogue filters are cheaper to make and add extra effects and routing to. They still sound great though
Great demo
I did't not like the demo from Korg, it did not sound so well so i thought the prologue was a wasting time , but mr Katsunori is the best to make a demo , i really want to buy it .
I played the Prologue 8 briefly at a local music store. It is a great synth. As a Minilogue owner, I was struck by the difference the additional polyphony makes, how much better the filter is, and the build quality. Some of the sounds I scrolled through were excellent, and it seemed to handle bass sounds very well. The overall character is bright and fizzy, but darker sounds can be dialed in as well.
I found the sound to be more refined than the Minilogue particularly when sweeping the filter. Like the Minilogue, it feels like a living and breathing instrument with acoustic properties. The parameters are well curated and musical and playable sounds can be dialed-in very quickly. The black enclosure, it’s subtle concave curvature, wooden end panels and keybed all felt and looked great.
I was underwhelmed by the contribution of the digital oscillators as I was expecting a wider variety of timbres which could have expanded the sonic palate. The biggest let down was the omission of the rubberized knobs features on the Minilogue and Monologue. The knew knobs looked and felt like spray-painted Medium density fiberboard. Additionally the silver markers on the knobs are painted on, which looks cheap. This detail is probably minute, but seems like a strange choice given how nicely design the rest of the unit is.
I will definitely buy a Prolgue in the coming months. The minilogue was so inspiring that I sold off some much more expensive gear that actually held me back from playing.
I sold my minilogue, volca beats, volca sampler, and volca kick to get the 16 voice prologue. It's an amazing synthesizer. I'm using it for many of my tunes now. The minilogue was great, but I've always wanted a prologue...I just had to wait a couple years for it to finally come out. :)
Very Cool! Can’t wait to get my hands on one. Glad to hear you are liking it!
Could you explain to a layperson such as myself why a REV2 wouldn't be the smarter choice at such a similar pricepoint?
The Prologue is a living and breathing instrument, it feels almost acoustic at times. The VCOs never track across the keyboard perfectly and are always drifting resulting in a very dynamic sound. A wide spectrum of sounds can be achieved with its limited parameter set. The Minilogue has inspired me to play more so than most other keyboards I have owned.
The Rev 2 is a beautiful synth as well. It’s more fully featured than the Prologue but not as quick to dial in sounds and find sweet spots. The Sound is great as well just not as dynamic as the prologue. One could get deeper into the intricacies of programming with the Rev 2 because of the amount of modulation. My biggest problem with the DSI gear is the envelope behavior. As you cycle through voices the attack phase gets truncated rendering all slow attack sounds useless. It’s pretty frustrating. This is why I sold my Prophet 08 and Poly Evolver. I do love my Mopho, and I would buy a Rev 2 if I had the chance.
The DSI clearly wins on paper but the Prologue seems to be much more than the sum of its parts.
Oh the paint threw me off! Sounds like the knobs are quality then, I was excpecting rubber knobs. Thanks
The Greatest Kat to do this shizzzz!
この温もり、さすがKORG‼️

KORGはいい仕事するなあ
Mr. Ujiie plays explosions better than I play piano.
Some of those noise presets around 20:00 sound like the microkorg!
Hello Katsunori do you have a favourite "modern poly synth" that you have played and reviewed..?
Excelente Maestro....greetings from Argentina.
Synthwave heaven.
4:37 the word you are looking for is "creamy"! It happens with analogue synths as that sound doesn't hurt your ears like digital sound does. It's instead soothing.
Yeah? You still using vinyl?
Analog is nice but kind of limited and worn out... playing/hearing a saw through lpf hurts my ears, like some guitar player doing a blues wank.
top demo thanks
the he way he plays this synth reminds me of final fantasy
Good demo! I got mine on transit!!!!
I wish I could meet Katsunori Ujiie , he would be fun to talk to about synths...
Aripigiata!
素晴らしい👍
先生いつもクリエイティブでオリジナル過ぎて、私のようなキャメルのあの音とか、ヴァンゲリスのあの音とか出して欲しい者には物足りないです(笑)
Master of the universe
wow!
Please do a Dave Smith Poly Evolver video!
I love you!
13:25 Herbie Hancock "Chameleon". The price is incorrect for this synth given what the DSI Prophet Rev2 costs. The million more features on the Rev2 make this a non-starter. Had they put a few more LFO's and the sequencer from the Monologue, we might have a contest.
Digiphex Electronics You are comparing a DCO synth with a VCO synth.
It does matter that the Prologue is a 2 VCO synth with a 3rd multi engine oscillator, quality key bed, excellent effects and a compressor.
VCO synths are more expensive than DCO synths due to the VCO components. That's why the REV2 isn't as expensive as the OB-6 or the Prophet-6. You could use the same arguments against both of those synths as you could with the Prologue but the DSI Prophet-6 and OB-6 owners would probably disagree with you.
This exactly. 1 LFO and no SEQ at this pice is a joke tbh.
Sound8Vision 1 LFO and only 6 voices must be a joke as well then. Strange then that the OB-6 and Prophet-6 both cost more than the Rev2 and that's what their specs are. They both blow the Rev2 out of the water when it comes to sound. So does the Prologue.
Anyhow an external looper pedal that records on the fly is far better to use in my opinion if you can play keys than the Monologue/Minilogue 16 step sequencer or the sequencers that the DSI synths use.
Awesome
RANDY JUDAH TALK 🎼❤️
brother, it sounds like you can play "Love Walks In" by Van Halen on it
cool
Is the EP sound at @20:57 a factory patch?
Be aware that the Prologue does not transmit or receive midi volume info (CC7) I recently bought one and was shocked to learn this after the fact.
Volume as in velocity?? That's a very strange choice by Korg if true...
Kim Stennabb Caesar no it transmits velocity and aftertouch over midi.
Lol 🙄
That was the case until firmware 2.x, when CC7 support suddenly appeared without fanfare.
Hmm the Kronos and Triton need a new sibling this might do
Is this synth is good for EBM (Faderhead, VNV Nation)? Or better buy Roland JD-XA?
is the chord progression at 0:18 from a song or is it improvised?
I imagine it would be impro. He does a lot of these type of progressions in his demos.
This one or system 8 ?
これ買う。
凄い!
is that the 16 voice version?
Dries Analog Yep, the 8 voice version doesnt have the compressor
やっと来た!
I think he liked it??
will you guys try out the novation peak?
I would also like to see Ujiie-san review the Peak.
Great demo. I had one for about a month. Build quality is flimsy, and the overall tone is vanilla. Traded it for an ob6...much happier.
Which Prologue is this?
Sounds like a really good VA.
Supertone Pre'75 i have VA’s that have more sonic character.
Your ears are broken
is this synth velocity sensitive?
Yes, and aftertouch
@@Roboprogs no aftertouch

Thinking of selling my Polysix for this
At like 20:05 it sounds like Metroid Prime sounds.
El dice : hatorami sokotute , maturani katoti , tu kulito saka llama
It´s a impressive synth!!! How much?? $$
Sorry but I hit stop at 1:00 because it sounded worse than a ROM demo from Roland JVs circa mid 90s.
Lol ok troll
Press PRAY to melt face.
... the grandmaster himself. Unfortunately this instrument has some serious shortcomings like aliasing (listen 12:15) for the digital engine so that even the best player cannot save it (I also tried in the shop the and aliasing is pretty obvious). The resonance sounds rather cheesy and the filter rather harsh. But thank you for the great demonstration and performance. I hope that Korg will learn and bring out a better version at some point. Some sounds are indeed very nice, though.
"The best player" would make aliasing sound cool.
suffpapst ??????
suffpapst - A digital waveform necessarily has aliasing, but you would only be able to hear it if the bit depth or sample rate were low.
I think what you are hearing is inharmonics produced from cross modulation of the oscillators etc. We don’t know exactly what was causing it because he changed presets beforehand (and obviously the controls don’t change to show you what happened) Then he opened the filter to reveal all of the high frequency inharmonics that were obscured in the preset.
I live this synth but God damn 1500 bucks?
jesus it must be worth it then
i live it as well.
Something like this would have cost $9,000 in 1983.
いいっすねぇ〜\(^o^)
Does it have many Arpeggiators.
かっけー
I don't know why, but it sounds like a VST more than hardware.
based on what???
defrigge prologue from cubase
Ryan, there's no Prologue on Cubase. You probably meant Retrologue, but that sounds different. I know of no VSTi sounding like the Prologue. The Prologue has a fresh modern sound and does not replicate a vintage synth, but it definitely sounds and behaves analog, and rather not just like another VSTi.
Made in Japan super Nostalgia.)
Nice synth, but a little expensive.
Seekthetruth3000 something like this would have cost $9,000 back in 1982.
I really wanted to like this synth, and like pretty much anything Ujie does, but I gotta say this synth does not sound great.
I recommend watching the demos on the multi engine that Sweetwater did, some truly amazing sounds there.
Victor Scherman agreed. Sold mine in 30 days. Flimsy build quality too.
No aftertouch, one LFO...
HatredPrime so??
James Reeno limited sound palette, if you remember what 80s Oberheim matrix 12 got inside you will realize we are going backwards.
HatredPrime i have waldorf synths with deep modulation matrixes. Don’t need that on every synth.
HatredPrime 2 lfo’s when in stack mode. 👍
YOU have your waldorf synths with deep modulation matrixes. YOU don't need that on every synth.
Fingerprint magnet...
50年前のコンピューターミュージックみたい。
This really sounds like crap, if you want analogue buy a Poly 6, this sounds so harsh
It really doesn't sound like crap, at all. And a Poly Six from 1981? Even if you can find and afford a properly working one, how long will it continue to work after some Ebay seller has taken your money? Better to buy this synth or a new Prophet 6, ymmv.
A Polysix, despite 35 years old, will outlive this soulless SMD mass production China crap. listen to this and listen to the prologue after. ua-cam.com/video/Bc0uMDg_Wyc/v-deo.html
Prologue is made in Japan. A Polysix, if you can find a decent one, will be a heck of a lot closer to the end of its life than any modern synth. At only 6 voices, 32-patch memory, a Polysix is a more limited synth.
Johnny V poly 6 only has ONE OSC
Post videos!
My Waldorf Q has more sonic character than this, and it’s 100% digital.
Sounds good but this synth really shit the bed, tons of manufacturing problems, no senqencer, korg wasn't ready to play with the big boys of anolouge so to speak, the pad sounds do sound nice but they could have done a lot more, it's a shame, korg only cares about coming in at the lowest price, if that's your business model then stick to low budget synths, why make a synth for the high budget market if your going to cut corners
Doesn’t need a sequencer.
Sounds good, $600 dollars good not $2200 quite a rip-off
Alex Senna $600 for 16-voice ANALOG POLY?? What the hell are you smoking??
James Reeno well I'm actually glad I got the prophet rev 2 and not the korg prologue despite how much I love vpm sounds, it sounds very plastic to my ear for 2200, and I got my rev 2 16 voice for 2000, it's still not a bad sounding synth but for 2200 it's not a deal, a deepmind 12 isn't really that far below the sound of this korg, the price should've been 1500
psychoticgiraffe OB6
@@psychoticgiraffe no disrespect to your decision but in my opinion the Prologue 16 has far more mileage for use in professional recording than the Rev2 16. Sound depth, effects plus the multi engine really makes the Prologue outdo the Rev2 side by side. The P -6 now has a similar spec to the Prologue. Less voices but it has a sequencer and after touch. Considering that it costs way moee than the Rev2 16 and the Prologue 16 I would say that the Prologue is decent value for money even with it's minor shortcomings
@@psychoticgiraffe this would have cost $9,000 in 1982. We have it REAL good these days.
