People were more cooperative with one another, they hated how authoritarian the DDR were. Its the same under the USSR. Russian people are still in love with the idea of socialism/communism. Especially with how capitalism has affected the people of Russia. When it comes down to the Eastern countries that fell under the Iron curtain. It wasn't left wing economics that oppressed them.
