    Hi Eddy, that Junktec generator has a lot of functionality but 0,6% THD is a bit on the high side, specially if you want to measure a Shiit pre-amp. Jokes aside, I am impressed by the low cost and extensive features but for now, I am sticking to my vintage Philips function generator. Only one channel and only 30MHz but a much cleaner square wave and all silky smooth analog dials. No app is beating that. I can not measure THD. I have only an analog scope. But I am thinking of buying a 16 bit 5MHz Picoscope. That should be able to measure THD to 96 dB and I believe has its own function generator build in. I am mainly interested in audio, so 80 MHz is not a priority for me.

    Hello Eddy. You have nice videos. But sometimes I get the feeling you are not prepared. Your explanations are jumping all over the place. I would suggest to read the manual first and write down a kind of script before you start recording. I will keep on folowing your channel, so keep up the good work.

      Thanks so much! Sorry - I'm always trying to improve, but honestly I have a tough time scripting things;) Even when I taught at the community college, I couldn't follow a script, but I had students keep coming back;) It is tough to spend so much time doing these videos and holding down a day job - and trying to spend time with family. If I could do this full time such as other channels that are bigger - that would be fantastic! But, it takes so much more work now to make it on youtube. I appreciate you sticking it out;)

    At least one heat sink will be for the dds. I'm afraid it is digital at heart. What I really love to know is what the inputs and sinks do.? If this can be sync with low jitter, it is much more useful.

    These low cost signal generators are sold under different names like Joy-IT, with almost exact the same specs. With the previous 60Mhz versions (JSD6600), there was a OK button, if you hold that button for a few seconds untill you hear the beep, the settings at that time are saved when you restart the device.
    I guess with this version, it is the OUT button that save the settings on reboot.
    These low cost signal generators do the job and are ideal for DIY and starting electronics, but they all suffer from the same problem, and that is the noisy switching powersupply and the low power output stage. The previous 60Mhz models like the Joy-IT JDS6600 used a external 5V switching powersupply, i use that model of signal generator and power it up with my linear bench power supply to have a cleaner signal.

    Cheap BNC conector might have problem with graunding as the metal is too soft so when you ploog them you in they squize and get loose. I usualy in that situation take twezzer and spred the shilding so it fit tighter.

    Could that crosstalk be a grounding issue? Are the grounds on the BNC actually...grounded? I ask because I know that's a little detail that gets overlooked with a lot of the signal generators at this price point....

    Check out the PSG9080 and it will be like night and day for you! Hell, even the cheapo KKMoon/Junktek/FeelTech/TZT/Cleqee etc. etc. rebadged generators at the lower end (20-60mHz) do better than what you have (which may be a rebadged nurffed model rather than a knock off).
    I know, I have a KKMoon FY6900 (60MHz) which does better, not hugely, and is only us$100, but still better square wave and no crosstalk.
    One of the things that varies a LOT from all these different brands is the output amp. the FY6900 is one of the better ones. Wish I had the PSG9080, at at twice the price of what I have, cannot spend the money, unless Elon wants to throw some my way! :)

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the great feedback Steven! I'll have to do a comparison to the UNI-T that I have. What tests would you recommend? BTW, I did ask for the PSG9080 - and I think they are sending me one;)

      @stevenbliss989 Рік тому

      @@KissAnalog Great, hope you get it! :)
      BTW the Uni-T you have has a good user interface (saw a review).
      As for tests, an FFT on it's various waveforms for purity might be good. P-P voltages at various offsets also - most are severely limited, and many also go down a LOT at higher frequencies due to output op-amp limits. In fact one of the things that varies a LOT is the output op-amp; i.e. rise/fall time and voltage limits (you saw the crappy rise/fall of that review unit). Some units have ground loop issues, and others have leakage current at high voltage at the output (from suppression cap in PSU). Some, including me, have replaced the PSU. Here is a couple of redesigns from SDG, good channel, but hate his shilling for products so often, which takes away review trust! :(
