In this order Truck registration, Trailer registration, insurance, ifta. Everything else after IFTA. Make it easy for the cops. I’ve never had them go past the IFTA point in 31 years of driving
Unfortunately you are incorrect, annual inspection is a must lease agreement if you run ender someone authority, KY NY OR NM permits beneficial, most of this state's go electronic latly.ELD reference card and 7 days of logbook is must if running LED. Same tax exemption only good for specific State, most of time just use MC# ...Be safe driver , Me , only 24y.bihind will 48lover and Alaska.
@@noone-mh4lo mine comes from 32 years of driving and paying attention to what they ask for most. They could care less about a hauling contract, that always goes in the very back. No one has ever asked to see it
Thanks so much for putting this together. I now have my own folder. The information you provide here is invaluable and helps new Owner-operators like me be compliant!🤝
Thank you so much! This was very helpful 😊 My siblings and I just started a trucking business and we have no idea what we’re doing. But this just helped me tremendously for what should be in the truck at all times!
Found this today. Even though 4 years ago, this is really helpful as am putting together an initial document book before I even get my CLP. I was surprised not knowing how much administrative and documentation you must deal with on a daily basis, but am glad I know before starting out. Thank you!! Will look into your other videos!! Like the way you're so organized for sure!
Just so you don't get into any tax trouble: It's not tax exempt...it's sales tax exempt (and only in a few states). No one is "tax exempt" (unless it's a non profit) lol ;-)
Supporting my father's dream of operating his own authority and we are having fun navigating the admin obstacles to ensure compliance with all the players. This video definitely squashed a lot of my anxiety brother, thanks for sharing!
This is amazing advice, insight, and tips, David. We used this video in part of our office training for DOT. You make it extremely easy to understand. To say this has been helpful for our small growing company is an understatement. This makes our processes a lot less complicated, and more organized. Thank you so much!
Thank u so much man. I have a couple of Box trucks, and when one of my drivers got pulled at the weight station for level 1 inspection. He gave the officer the folder, and the officer impression was WOW, he thanked him for it. By the way,, he passed the inspection as well.
Us hazmat and Ohio hazmat.. I just found your channel. Love it. I'd keep contact info for your compliance service in there. Just to let them know you are playing with a full deck. Toss anything expired. You don't want to be thumbing through expired stuff. But only if it is expired. So this is a funny story about that. I got pulled over in Pennsylvania five years ago. I'm driving local. But the state police were playing with new cameras. If they see a plate, They read a plate. I'm driving fairly new truck. The cop gets my paperwork and explaines to me that my License plate came up dead in the system. His camera.caught it. And now he has to figure it out. He can't just ignore it. So I show him the registration. Still no avail to him. But it shows that I thought I was compliant. But luckily the temporary registration, previous to the plate being issued had not expired. So now I had a paper trail. But this was a regular. He didn't understand. Then his supervisor shows up. Understands my side. But still dosent recognize the error. So they call a D.O.T. cop. Now I got 3 units behind me. I am genuinely hoping that the boss screwed up. That they would shut me down on my bosses fault. Because I'm paid by the hour. But that D.O.T. cop explained to the patrolman and supervisor that my unexpired temp was technically still valid. That I didn't even need the plate. The D.O.T cop explains to me quickly. Hands back my paperwork and turns me loose. Keep that temp until it actually expires. It helped me.
Hello.., Brand New Trucking Business owner here out of Huntsville, Al. I appreciate this video...though my focus is on Box trucks initially, I will definitely use this info in setting up my files on tomorrow. Plan on moving my 1st load this week. Much Success
I watched this video right before I started trucking. As soon as I was assigned my own truck I did just this. So far I've only had one officer request this information and he thanked me for having all the papers he needed organized and easy to find, so thank you so much for the advice you shared in this video.
Your shipping papers have to be the first item in your binder on top of all other paperwork. Also if you're carrying hazmat, you have to have a current copy of your hazmat certification.
Mr. McGill you’re always sharing accurate information that’s very imperative for someone starting a new trucking business!! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge it’s greatly appreciated!!
Thank you for making these videos. I'm going to be buying a bucket truck and doing telecommunications work across state lines, and having never done this for myself before, I'm ignorant of what I need. Thank you for explaining it all so well. The binder is a nice, professional touch.
Great stuff. I totally forgot the IFTA cert, so thanks for the reminder. A few things I also carry are maintenance records and documentation that support my GVW numbers as I want to prove to the inspector I'm within the limits of my truck's towing capacity, etc.
Very good and informative.video. One thing he should have stated was something about regularly reviewing the documents to be sure they're current. I.e. insurance, registration, etc. Don't rely on the office staff to check those things. If something is expired, tell the office staff and replace it with an updated copy before you start driving. And Mr. mcGill made a very good point about keeping the permit book neat and organized. It makes the DOT officer's job a little easier.
Honestly I've been watching you since I started looking into trucking and I think if I didn't find your page I wouldn't have pursued trucking in the least bit. You're amazing bro.
