I was there and Signed to OVW when this happened.. the best part was when Tony was telling Punk how he would never be able to wear that on the main rooster and Punk told him he was ECW champ and they were about to start selling forearm covers like his tape Job at the WWE merch next week and that Tony doesn’t even watch the product and was only there for a payday and the look on Tony’s face was priceless look of total shock 😂

You always hear about Taker being the locker room leader and all that and it sounds so stupid and high-school tier bullshit. But this story kinda shows Taker was a filter from drama bullshit to stuff that actually needed to be addressed. Which is a totally different perspective.
The thing is, it IS stupid highschool tier bullshit, That's the whole reason the idea of a locker room leader exists it seems. I remember hearing maven speak about the locker room environment one time and he said something to the effect of there being a locker room "court" consisting of taker and some others, where they would essentially act as judge jury and executioner on the petty little dramas...if that don't fucking sum up how bad unprofessional and childish the backstage environment was I don't really know what can. these mfers were in their 20s 30s sometimes 40s and they had to be fuckin babysat, "waahhh, daddy taker, that guy said mean words to me" type shit.

@My2cents You can say what you want about Biden. Call him an open racist, call him senile, call him whatever the hell, but at least be factual. I look at it like this, I'd rather have someone tell me they're racist, sexist, misogynist, fascist, homophobic, etc then to not know where they stand. Trump is every single one of those things and has done more then enough to prove he's those things, but he'll deny it every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Here's some advice for you kid; if a person ever has to say, "I'm not racist because......." Then they're racist. So no, Biden is not worse than Trump. It amazes me how all you indoctrinated right wing GQP sycophants worship at the alter of Trump and at the same time talk about people taking rights away. Trump literally tried to keep himself in office illegally. So there goes your right to vote. Trump literally said, more than once, that he wanted to take away the freedom of press because they were, "not nice to him", so there goes that right. Trump literally gave more than one rally where the subject revolved around Trump promising the suburban people that he would not allow "certain" people to move into their neighborhoods. So there goes that right. I mean you are literally on UA-cam talking about people taking away your rights, why? Because they want people to wear a mask and protect themselves and others from a deadly virus? Cause they want people to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others from a deadly virus. All you indoctrinated right wing people kill me with this pandemic crap. Y'all literally sit and whine and complain more about the situation that the pandemic has put us in and yet, y'all aren't willing to do ANYTHING to help facilitate our return to normalcy. Y'all have whined about everything that has been put in place so that we could get rid of this thing and get back to our lives and won't do a damn thing to help get rid of it. That's why numbers are spiking now. Indoctrinated right wing folks refusing to wear a mask or get vaccinated because "It's their right". It is their right, however, it's my right to say that if you won't help get rid of the virus then I don't want to hear your complaints. Biden has already in 7 months done more for the American people than Trump did in 4 years. So, if your idea of a president is one who is in league with Russia, one who extorted another country for dirt on a political opponent, one who tried to overturn an election, one who called different state officials from several states to try to get them to "find votes", one who steals money from donors, one who allowed 600,000 people to die from a pandemic that he didn't take seriously, and I could go on for days but I digress; then I guess you would be supportive of Trump. One thing you're not supportive of, however, is the idea of America and what it stands for because if your idea of protecting your rights is to make sure that other people's rights are taken away, then you're just as bad as Trump. ✌🏽🤡

I mean you just have to think about it for more than five minutes really. You'll be constantly on the go, you'll need to constantly be in top physical condition, you'll be risking your well being every time you step into the ring as a single botch could permanently damage your body, and you'll have to deal with the uphill battle that is management while juggling the relationships of your fellow wrestlers and other faculty members. Now just imagine being a main eventer or you start receiving a massive push. You'll have to travel _even_ more, you'll have to do some mic work, you'll need to be able to wrestle at a higher level, you'll have EVERYONE'S eyes on you, and you'll more than likely be put into more spots that have a higher chance of injuring you if done incorrectly. Being a professional wrestler seems like a pretty good career at first glance. You get payed to fake punch people, fall on your back, get thrown around a little, and maybe spout some shit on the mic. What no one sees is the backstage politics, the constant traveling, the threat of an actual injury, etc. If you want to be a wrestler, you'll need a strong mentality alongside a fit body.
Dracon exactly so if you’re thinking about become a wrestler you need to tell yourself if you’re willing to sacrifice everything. Basically it’s all a matter if you really want it or not and if you respect the business you need to be honest with yourself.
This is why i'm a massive Punk fan, he doesn't take shit from anyone no matter who they are or what they've done. He may hit people back too hard at times but don't poke the bear if you don't want that smoke

For being a guy who was a jobber to jobbers in UFC, punk does have a huge chip on his shoulder. This is a guy who had 1 memorable match and angle in his entire wwe run because he worked with a big over star in Cena. Apart from that pretty mediocre over all.
@@michaelreyes7848 just I had heard that Punk & Randy Orton had a lot of heat dating back years. But there was never any explanation as to where it started.
I think of this when I think about the stuff with the bucks and AEW in general. Punk gets a rep for starting shit. But the thing is he doesn’t often START shit! He just doesn’t sit around and let himself be talked down to or be insulted. Sure in some cases it may be better to sit back and ignore it. But there’s also a respectable aspect to it. He refuses to be talked down to or disrespected. It’s a very punk rock mentality. He isn’t gonna just sit and take it. That’s how I saw it with the Bucks and Elite and then Jungle Boy. Shit was being talked and he stood his ground and even said “If you have a problem with me then you know where to find me!” He didn’t back down. He doesn’t care who you are. He’s gonna stick up for himself!
You gotta wonder, is this because TA was such old school he didn’t even pay attention to the current product and that’s why he didn’t know who CMP was or is this because corporate WWE at the time wasn’t paying any attention to the ECW product and didn’t even know ECW had a championship and thus thought the ECW belt CM was carrying around was homemade or he was on loan or something from some small time promotion or on loan TO some small town promotion? I swear at the time CMP should have just introduced himself to TA as the new drummer for Spinal Tap
@@erickcontreras113 true but even in WWECW it was I remembered The Undertaker won the Royal Rumble and got to choose who he wrestled at Mania. The ECW Title was an option I honestly think it went down when people like Chavo, Swagger, Ezekiel Jackson got it. Matt Hardy & Christian added legitimacy back to it. It was dope to see Tommy Dreamer get again though.
It was no longer a world championship when Chaco Guerrero was the current champion and he was an entrant in the royal rumble in at that moment it was done because it made no sense why he was in it as a world champion already
@@jetfan9586 They never took it seriously even before Chavo. They made strides to kind of allude to it being a world title. However it was branded. During the days when the company didn't have a branded world title. It was WWE Title, WWE Heavyweight Championship and ECW Championship. There was no way the ECW title would ever switch brands like the other two could. This alone cemented it as a lower card title. Once you're that lower card title the question is which is more important to the company? US and IC or ECW? We go back to US and IC can switch brands no question asked and the ECW Championship couldn't. It was always the jobber brand title. It is why they put guys like Chavo, Hardy and Christian on that show and gave them that title. They knew they had to elevate that title just above preshow level. So those guys brought the title value up to opening card level. As for a champion being in the rumble. God we need more of that. It is one of the best storytelling devices you can create. How a world champion wins the rumble. He can now challenge title vs title. He can now pick who he faces at mania. Fuck he can secure his lock in if he happens to lose the title before mania. It is actually a logical storytelling device that can be used. Not every year cause it would be stupid but with the right champion and the right gimmick it would make a lot of sense.

@Sangereed55 dude, this is not me being a mark, it's based off of real shit. Jeff was doing heavy amounts of alcohol and pain killers at the time in order to deal with the pain from wrestling and he was using them to numb himself. Punk could see that in the locker room, being one of the boys backstage and knew he wasn't in a good way and that in that condition, he could hurt someone. When you are wrestling, you rely on your people you are wrestling with to not hurt you or cause you major injuries. Jeff couldn't be trusted. This was a year before the infamous Sting vs. Hardy match where Jeff was fucked the hell up. Punk had a right to be mad as fuck, and he purposely called Jeff on his shit. Jeff didn't like it, and weeks after he left the WWE, Jeff cut a video with Matt where he berated Punk for his so called sober straight edge lifestyle, yet Jeff was drugged out of his fucking head. If you watched that video, it's embarrassing to see, because Jeff was fucked up.
I remember watching this interview and in my heart I just knew he was gonna be at all out and fast forward he didn't show up then but he finally showed up and he's in aew now I'm so pumped I was so bummed when he didn't show up
CM Punk is one of the most popular superstars in the history of pro wrestling, and he was at the time he met Tony Atlas. Apparently, Tony Atlas wasn't following WWE/ECW at the time he met CM Punk. Either that, or Atlas took "too many chair shots to the head" over the years.
CM Punk is the guy who had to bring in real life issues to wrestling and break kayfabe to get over, he held the title for over a year and elevated no one and refused to lose the title to younger talent, and how is he the most popular when during his reign they had to make Cena and Rock main event WrestleMania ? if CM Punk was so popular wouldn't it be smart to put him in the main event, not to mention that everything people remember from CM Punk's career is winning the title from Cena, even during his biggest moment John Cena had to play a big role in it
Was Punk referring to the Miz? I’m thinking so cause there was a tweet of Punk calling him out way back BUT it had no context. This seems to makes sense to me

@Brian Hacker ok after I watch this a few more times

This is why i'm a massive Punk fan, he doesn't take shit from anyone no matter who they are or what they've done. He may hit people back too hard at times but don't poke the bear if you don't want that smoke

This tony atlas story cracks me the fuck up every time I hear it, even more so when he does the tony atlas impression haha.
Damn, Punk comes across really well here. Tells the story well.
His impressions from Tony to John to Taker are all spot on holy shit
Every story I've heard about Nova (Mike Bucci) during developmental is how big of a stooge he was.
Well he never really went anywhere so I guess it's fine, also I remember when I was like 15 I absolutely hated Simon Dean, not because he was a good heel but because he absolutely sucked.

Tony said it was a miscommunication and said he liked Punk in an interview with me.

For being a guy who was a jobber to jobbers in UFC, punk does have a huge chip on his shoulder. This is a guy who had 1 memorable match and angle in his entire wwe run because he worked with a big over star in Cena. Apart from that pretty mediocre over all.

Remember when The ECW Championship was considered a World Championship?? Damn who dropped the ball??
At least it was in the original ECW
Anyone who believed it was.
I love the foreshadowing that punk would be at all out in his 1st return match
Man I miss cm punk anyone that can get under triple H skin like punk is all right with me

If CM Punk had the physique of Randy Orton the WWE would have never stopped throwing money at him to keep him in the company.

Nova in his ECW days was actually considered to be pretty innovative/clever in ring wise.

Punk has the same mindset that i have meaning if something is Dumb then its Dumb period and its not because its always been like that or everyone does it that it makes it any less dumb and indeed, standing up for myself over random dumb shit just like that got me fired from many places but i regret nothing. They lost me its not me who lost them
Tony atlas version of the story was that he told cm punk . To shut up or he d beat him up. And cm punk shut up the beef was from him not taking the wrist tape off. And it looked strange to the old timers and disrespectful.
Phil is great on the mic as well as in the ring.
I'll never get tired of hearing people call Nova and Al Snow stooges.
Buddy Boots who is Nova
@Metropcs Metropcs it depends on how familiar you are with the WWE undercard from the early 2000s
he's also known as Simon Dean the workout guy who frequented Velocity and Sunday Night Heat with occasional appearances on Raw and/or Smackdown
I watched a shoot interview with Nova\ Simon Dean and yeah he just seems like the type to snitch on people never thought Al Snow was like that though i just think it's hilarious that my favorite person who was manger i became a fan of Jim Cornett not as a manager but when i saw all those shoot interviews where he would just verbally murder people he's fucking hilarious but yeah Cornett hates Nova

CM Punk is so good at public speaking
you can tell from this interview alone why alot of backstage guys didn't like Punk, because he didn't bow down to them and let them push him around
Also because he’s straight edge. People thought he was a dork. Even Jeff Hardy, who btw is one of the nicest guys, called him a nerd.
@@Nikita-qb7xd Well that's because Jeff was drugged the fuck out anyway at that time and didn't like Punk because he was clean.

Chris Smith I can see it now:
“Kayfabe News: local shmuck on internet thinks CM Punk is boring in the ring”
You’re convincing nobody
CM Punk is the guy who had to bring in real life issues to wrestling and break kayfabe to get over, he held the title for over a year and elevated no one and refused to lose the title to younger talent, and how is he the most popular when during his reign they had to make Cena and Rock main event WrestleMania ? if CM Punk was so popular wouldn't it be smart to put him in the main event, not to mention that everything people remember from CM Punk's career is winning the title from Cena, even during his biggest moment John Cena had to play a big role in it
