    Adam Berzowski explores the desert landscapes of the synths of summer with his companion for this journey, the beautiful and incredible Sequential Prophet-10 analog synthesizer in the Kraft Music studio.
    Sequential Prophet-10 is part of Dave Smith's timely return to the analog polysynth that changed the world. It's a 10-voice synth that embodies all three revisions of the legendary Prophet-5 - Rev1, Rev2 and Rev3 - through the use of genuine Curtis analog VCOs and filters (as in the Rev3) as well as new 2140 low-pass filters designed by Dave Rossum to be like his 2040 filters found in original Rev1 and Rev2. A Rev switch lets you choose between the two filter designs. The result is as pure a renewal of an analog classic as you could wish for, with the authentic, muscular sound of the original and the roadworthiness of a state-of-the-art modern instrument.
    Get more for your money with an exclusive Dave Smith Instruments Sequential Prophet-10 polyphonic analog synthesizer bundle from Kraft Music. These package deals include the accessories you'll need to get the most out of your new synth - at home, on stage, or in the studio. If you have any questions, please contact us. Guess the debate of which revision (Rev.1,2,3) of the Prophet-5 is now moot or solved this machine seems truly impressive, is it superior to the still forthcoming Oberheim OB-X8? & seems like maybe it could be somewhat of a conflict of interest or do the Focusrite people even care?! • @MyriadOfHoops
      @MyriadOfHoops 2 роки тому +1

      Well there's the few differences in functionality (mainly the OB is stereo, has sample&hold, multimode filter...) but then there's quite a few other synths with more features than both anyway, hence perhaps that's not the main factor to pick any of those two. I guess it comes down to them existing on the merits of each having a distinct historic sonic signature (granted within a similar architecture). Which is why you may want both eventually or, in the most likely event you can afford just one, you may be naturally drawn to one sound over the other. The OB spectrum sounds very large and somewhat hi fi to me, while the Prophet is a bit more meaty and midrangy, kind of where you'd want it to sit in a more traditional band setting mix for exemple. I got the latter last year when there was no such hesitation to be had yet, sure would like the OB as well, but that is certainly not to say the prophet is lacking in any way. In fact I may still have opted for it in the end ! I do agree though that, with limited budget and space, once you picked one, you may be tempted to explore other synthesis options after that. However, rather than the budget conscious, pricing here is clearly directed towards money no object clientele or professional investment anyway, somewhat in line with how they were marketed in the first place. A bit like a studio can justify having multiple flavors of high end preamps for super specific uses, which most regular people would be barely capable of differentiating.

    • @GusFogle
      @GusFogle 2 роки тому +4

      I got the Prophet 5 Rev 4 last year, and just received the OB-X8. There's surprisingly little overlap between the 2 synths. They sound very different. The Prophet 5 has a lot more range and versatility. The Oberheim is really good at sounding like an Oberheim, something that no other synth quite does. I find the Oberheim is best used for background texture in a mix; brass pads and strings, etc. You can definitely dial in a good lead patch on it but it doesn't shine there as well as the Prophet. The Prophet on the other hand is brilliant with both leads and pads, but I find myself needing to tame the pads down in a mix; the Prophet is really dry sounding, and the filter is very reactionary to your playing. Both great synths; they each fill their own niche, but I feel like I have a broader range of sounds at hand with the Prophet.

      Go listen to Bernie Worrell, Terrace Martin, or George Duke, or even Stevie Wonder damn!! They could play the synth so funky it made you feel something. This bleep bloop whoosh bs makes me feel like I want to turn this off lol. I worked for a major synthesizer company, and the average workers always felt that the demos the company released were very non-musical and did not reflect the way synthesizers were used by the most accomplished musicians to ever play them (who were and still are more black than white). People talk about On The Run like it was a landmark song for synthesizers, when Herbie Hancock's Chameleon was released the same year! Both are very repetitive, but that ARP sings sweetly under Herbie's fingers. Whereas this video is very "on the run" to me... ✌️
