2022 marks the 30 years of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control, launched in 1992 as a demonstration of the Maison’s commitment to the very highest levels of watchmaking excellence. The Master Control marked the beginning of the 1000 Hours Control system of internal quality standards at Jaeger-LeCoultre, a system subsequently incorporated throughout the full range of watches and which is now emblematic of the Maison’s fine watchmaking promise to its customers.
In full alignment with this unceasing commitment to timeless quality that maintains Jaeger-LeCoultre at the forefront of 21st-century horological craft, the Master Control collection has been enriched with two stainless steel models with sunray-finished dials in a refined shade of blue. All the essential codes of the Master Collection can be found in the Master Control Date and the Master Control Calendar. These include features such as the combination of applied Arabic numerals with faceted dart markers for the hours, faceted dauphine hour and minute hands, and bevelled case lugs that curve towards the strap attachment point. The slim case bezels bring an open feel to the 40mm cases, symbolic of the inherent versatility in this case diameter.
Legibility and readability are emphasised, using minute scales in a subtly contrasting lighter blue, with distinct minute divisions intercut with dot markers in Super-LumiNova® for an intuitive and precise indication of the time. With the Master Control Calendar, the jumping date indication makes a welcome reappearance. A slender date hand extends outwards from the centre of the dial, ending in a red- lacquered Jaeger-LeCoultre logograph that points towards the date on the outer periphery of the dial. For optimal reading of the dual-display moon phase and small seconds subdial, the date hand makes a 90° jump between the 15th and 16th day of each month. This ensures that the moon phase and small seconds subdial is never bisected by the date hand; a small yet effective detail that increases the design clarity of the Master Control Calendar.
To complete the overall harmonious aspect of these two new models, the date ring of the Master Control Date is also in blue, with white transferred Arabic numerals. The white-on-blue day and month indications of the Master Control Calendar provide similar aesthetic integration with the rest of the watch, with additional visual refinement found in the snailed finish of the small seconds subdial. The upper half of the subdial reveals the moonphase disc decorated with a star-studded background.
Both the Master Control Date and the Master Control Calendar come with matching blue straps in calf leather. The straps are trimmed in complementary blue stitching that continues across the strap attachment point for a touch of vintage allure. These straps have been fitted with a quick-change mechanism, allowing the wearer to easily switch between a range of straps for a completely different look.
Within these new models beats two Jaeger-LeCoultre in-house automatic movements. The calibre 899 of the Master Control Date and the calibre 866 of the Master Control Calendar have 70 hours of power reserve, bringing close to three days of running autonomy even when they are not being worn. Each model is limited to 800 pieces.

It may be the horological equivalent of graduating from elementary school, but I've suddenly become extremely interested in Jaeger-LeCoultre. Their history and processes are incredible.
That's the horological virus! Such an "outbreak" is a very good sign... 😜
I found the standard MC calendar model a bit too plain for my taste and have been waiting forever for a blue version, so when this came out it was a dream come true. I bought this today and it’s so beautiful I just can’t stop staring at it. Looking forward to seeing the jumping date work come Sunday evening.
Bravo! Congratulation! Thanks for sharing ... May your beautiful "Master" always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours...
Such a beautiful watch👍
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks! Very beautiful presentation of these beautiful watches. Watching this video made be vey happy indeed.
@@teckchuonting4582 Thanks! As with all JLC watches, this will look even better on your wrist.
Agreed, silver on silver can be a bit underwhelming
When jlc produce a new modern timepiece, I will say it is always a beauty. Thanks Alexander for the review!
You are welcome! Thanks for sharing our passion!
I have always loved the master control collection. These two are standouts. I do find the jumping date script a little distracting. I love how JLC makes their movements thin (even with several complications) and so the wearability of the watches are just perfect.
Alexander, you are such a great reviewer!
... "I do find the jumping date script a little distracting." Me too!!! Totally useless IMHO...
I saw your video and went down to boutique. Got the MC calendar right away. Stunning!
Oh wow, not bad 😉 Thanks for sharing, love your comment! May your "Master" always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes anchors...
I purchased the blue Master Control Date a few days ago, and I can confirm that it’s far more beautiful in person than on video.
Bravo! Congratulations! Thanks for sharing our passion! May your Master Control always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
JLC you beauty! that blue dial is just orgasmically stunning!
Love your comment! Thanks for sharing your passion with us!
They are both beautiful. I prefer the clean lines of the Master Control Date but the Quantieme a Date Sautante looks beautiful as well. They both look really good on you wrists, Alexander!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Alexander for another great review. Unfortunately I got the JLC master ultra thin de marche and now you drop this great video.
You are very welcome, I love your passion! May your "Master" always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours... Enjoy your wonderful JLC 😉
Beautiful. JLC need to make more colourised dials in the master collection
Sometimes less is more... 😉
I got my MC calendar about three months ago. I cannot stop staring at it. It is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing our passion! May your JLC MC continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours!
Beautiful watches! JLC killing it. Thanks for another thorough review. 👍🏼
Thank you VERY much, our pleasure...
WOW die blauen Zifferblatter sehen magisch aus. Das sind zwei Schönheiten. Danke für das Video.
Ja, sind sowas von schön!!! HAMMER!
Blue?! Fine. Keep it limited. Atleast it's not green. Another great vid from Alex. Well done! Danke!
You are very welcome, I love your passion! Green is not my favorite color too, I definitely prefer blue...
I reserved the Master Control Calendar from the local boutique the day after I saw this video. Finally got it last week. Extremely beautiful watch. One of the most exquisite blue dials I've seen.
Strap is high quality as expected, but the butterfly clasp/deployant is a bit awkward to put on or unfasten. Probably takes some time getting used to. Will explore purchasing the steel bracelet as someone suggested.
Thanks for sharing our passion! Bravo! Congratulations! May your Master Control Calendar always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours! Please keep us posted concerning the steel bracelet...
I was tempted to buy the ‘date’ one a year ago, but didn’t. Am circling back now and wondering why there are so many available on chrono 24 and also at the boutique. A year on, how do you feel about this watch?
@@watchenthusiastlondonthe watch market has slowed down considerably and people still prefer their sports watches.
@@ollik8192I have since bought one… apparently the last one in the UK… and I love it. So pleased that I did.
@@watchenthusiastlondon awesome, I do hope that you feature it on your channel if you haven't already!
Omg what a stunning piece!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love your comment dn passion!
Love you channel. This helped me pull the trigger on the Master Control Date, blue dial. It is stunningly elegant. Love the brushed case sides - just a touch of sportiness to help make it a worthy daily wear. The blue sun-ray dial with the light blue minute track is sublime. The lume is not that great, but understandable considering the minimal application (any more would spoil the elegance). The stitching in the band coordinates with the minute track.
If you want something really nice that’s not Rolex, this is a good watch to consider. Very under the radar, but watch enthusiasts Will complement to you on your lovely time peace.
Thanks for sharing and your kind feedback! Love your passion…
Did you say lume? Is there any lume on the hands? I thought not…
@@watchenthusiastlondon Yes, there's lume on the hands and hour markers.
Great video as ever - thanks! What a stunning pair of watches! Great proportions, beautifully designed, perfectly finished. The easily changeable strap is a bonus.
Thanks! The only strap I can imagine that would also fit is a matching tissue strap with silver stitching...
Great vídeo pal... What a dial color! Sharp
Thanks for sharing our passion!
Absolutely stunning! Thanks for the insightful video.
You are very welcome! Which one would you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor A difficult decision, but I would go for the Master Control Calendar.
Pretty pieces. Loving the blue.
Welcome to the club!!!! 😜
The Jaegers are among my most beautiful watches. 4 pc
Yes! In this case which one would you choose?
JLC is in a league of their own! The new Polaris Date, can't wait for you to review it Alexander!
If I can get hands on one I'll for sure make a review - yes!
Great video as ever. I bought the silver dialed calendar after watching your video on that. Best purchase ever. Thanks
Thanks for sharing our passion! Wow 🤩 what a compliment… May your “Master” always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
Wow, this pieces are simply beautiful 😍
I fully agree! BLUE is such abeatiful color for watches... Which one would you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor this is a tough question to answer. If I really had to choose, I would probably go for the Master Control Calender because of its perfect simplicity. Lovely piece. JLC is really a brand that I would love to have in my collection.
The retrograde pointer date on the master control calendar is great attention to detail!
Yes! Without that IMHO useless description of it on the dial even cooler ...
Nice watches! Nice Video! Danke👍
Thanks! Which one would you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor Hard to say. I find them both very very beautiful😉
Just an update. I bought the steel bracelet, and they look fabulous with the blue dial. They're light, comfortable, excellent micro adjustment design, and overall high quality build, as what you can expect from JLC. A bit pricey if you buy separately but I think well worth it.
I'd love to see it. It's kind of amazing to me how quiet JLC was releasing the steel bracelets. And marketing department such little effort into the photos... etc.
also congrats!
Also, does the bracelet taper?
@@Superdada Thanks! I went to the Reverso Stories held in Tokyo this month. They launched the 10-piece limited edition reverso with a Hokusai painting enameled on the back. I asked one of the JLC staff if I could take a picture, and the lady in turn asked me if she could take a picture of my watch. Imagine that.
@@Superdada Yes, it tapers from 20mm to 18mm, just like the leather strap. Any new MC or MC Calendar would have these along with the calf leather strap, so I think you can try them on if in stock. It makes the MC, specially with the blue dial, very sporty, yet elegant.
@@judasslip Awesome, literally since the blue dial MC debuted I wanted to see it on metal. That's great you went to the Reverso Stories. I just watched a video tour of the one they did in Singapore. So wish we had this in our area in Colorado.
And today, I'm excited because in the mail arriving is my new Reverso Tribute in Green. I'm like staring out the window waiting for the driver to come! 😜
JLC is killing it these days. Those who know, know!
As you said... classy and understated. Would love to make one of these mine!
Which one?
Simple but perfectly executed by JLC, as to be expected. Thanks for the presentation. Did you happen to get your hands on the new green Polaris? I'd love to see that one!
Thanks! Not yet long enough to be able to film it...
Love the annual calendar. And very competitive at that price!
That's not an annual calendar but "only" a calendar watch...
@@WatchAdvisor i see my guess it would be a annual but i guess not. Has to be fixed every month?
Lieber Alexander,
Alexander perfectly matched it with the shirt!
Haha! Yes! Blue is my preferred color and therefore I do also buy shirts in that color... In this case it is an ETRO shirt... 😉
@@WatchAdvisor very nice!
I bought the blue MCC. I hardly manage 5 minutes not to look at the watch, because the dial has a magical attraction. The only thing that surprises me is the loud rotor noise. According to JLC, these are normal because the rotor is free-floating and therefore does not require lubricants.
That's a very healthy noise indeed!!! You shouldn't worry about it... May your JLC always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours...
@@WatchAdvisor thank you!
Yup, my MC blue date does that too; the ceramic bearings don't require lubricant so they don't require servicing but they make a slight noise when the rotor spins. All of JLC's models have ceramic bearings now so something to keep in mind. If it matters to you, it doesn't bother me and I don't hear it when I'm wearing the watch.
Nice. Especially the date version. I would love it just a bit more with 38mm. I think it fits better those slim „business“ like watches. Just personal taste.
Thanks for sharing!
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative commentary with beautiful imagery. Thank you!
Question: Why is crown not centered on the case edge? To be clear, is this the architectural limitations with the push buttons?
Thanks for sharing our passion! The "Calendar" is powered by an automatic base-calibre on which a module was built for the calendar functions and the moon phase indication. Therefore push pieces of the module are not in line with the crown of the base-calibre...
Grazie! Glad I found your channel. New subscriber.
Great watches - love the blue dials
Thanks for sharing! Which one would you choose?
I have the Master Control Date with silver dial, it's a wonderful watch. Although I have a relatively small wrist (6.5 inch), it's an excellent size.
Thanks for sharing this precious direct feedback concerning wearability...

Alexander, can you confirm if there movements hack? I think they should and when you were setting the time on the date model the seconds hand stopped. I tried it out at a boutique but that model (perhaps a demo model) didn't hack if I remember correctly. Cheers and love this video!
Yes, I confirm!

I bought the MCC white dial with brown strap. I knew this is coming but I preffered the while silvery dial to balance the collection since I have plenty of blue dial watches. It is nice to watch watch reviews and If you like it you can just walk in and buy one. A true haute horology.
Thanks for sharing our passion! May your MCC always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
Among the best on the market period, myself I am waiting for a 3 counters chronograph, no calendar, to pull the trigger.
Would be gorgeous indeed!! Maybe they will present it later... Let us hope...
Would love to see it on a steel bracelet though. Like with the polaris line that really is a great combo imo
Can not imagine this beauty on a massive steel bracelet… too much for me… would prefer to see it with a high end woven matching tissue strap…
@@WatchAdvisor what do you think of the silver dial master control calendar and chronograph calendar on the steel bracelet they now have?
I think you can order the steel bracelet separately now
@@LucaDinhNguyen wish it was that easy, they don’t seem to be on stock.
Would look terrible on steel, leather is the way to go
Great blue sunburst. Also Love the way the date pointer jumps over the moonphase. I agree regarding the price, but I believe it will still sell relatively quick
2x 800 pieces will immediately be sold... The question though is: why only 800 pieces each?
I have placed my order at JLC. Master control date. Hoping to get one.
Do you se it as an daily wearer or “dress” pease.

A beauty that Calendar!
Question: Does the off-center crown cause any discomfort to the wrist or noticeably hit the skin while wearing as it seems to be “lower” than edge of case?
Absolutely not! You will definitely not feel the crown... I never had an issue with a watch that also features a modular construction as this "Master" ...
Another excellent demonstration video. There are not many videos which show Master Control collection in such a detail. I have one remark that perhaps the oscillating weight is made of 21K gold (and not from 18K gold)
Thanks for sharing our passion and your kind feedback! The entire oscillating weight (not only a segment in 21 carat) is made out of 18 carat gold.
@@WatchAdvisor Actually, I planned to buy the white dial version, was there in a Munich AD back in mid of 2020 when the listed price was at 6950 €. I wished to wait a bit to be sure. Now the listed price is 9550€. In my opinion, for such a model the price increase is too big, considering the competition, and it is a pitty that this great model lost its appeal only due to exaggerated pricing policy, in my humble opinion.
Lots of price adjustments are due to the VERY strong Swiss Franc...
@@Zeeraha buy it secondary market, its like 5k
Awesome watches. But I am wondering: Why is there no hallmark on the rotor? What kind of gold is it?
It is definitely 18 carat gold! The hallmark is on the side we don’t see for esthetic reasons
Love the blue Master Calendar. Easy-to-read dial
Thanks for sharing!
GOD BLESS YOU ALEXANDER. I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU AND VERY HAPPY FOR YOU. I HOPE ALL OF YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE MY FRIEND. I HOPE YOU HAD THE BEST AND HAPPIEST CHRISTMAS OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. I LOVE YOU. 🙏

Unfortunately, I had a major disappointment with my MCC recently. It acted up with 15 - 16 jump. I returned the watch and expecting a new one next week. I loved the watch so much that want to give it another chance. I don’t want to get anything else at this time…

Which one would you choose?
Nice report ; and your opinion about MCC vs Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet 6654 (the same complications ) ?
Both are excellent watches, they are eye to eye… Best would be to try them on your wrist and compare them 1:1… then let your heat decide… it won’t lie…
18 K gold is hidden because in the past JJ was using 21 K, that is why... bit of a sneaky move to hide it now, saving money i understand but transparency towards customers is also important.
It is even 22 carat! All Calibre 899 are fitted with an 22 carat rose gold oscillating weight... Mentioned or not, does not make any difference... So why worry?
@@WatchAdvisor my bad then, somehow i heard somwhere they went for 18k... great if it is 22.
@@WatchAdvisor Didn't you say in a comment below that is was 18 carat? Which one is it? I'm pretty sure it's rose plated tungsten. That's what another channel said. I don't care, I bought it anyway because it's beautiful.
Hi Alexander, I'm just just curious, what would you have instead of the text under the moon phase? I kind of like it compared to having just a large blank space and after a while I stop noticing it until someone who has no background in French, or not familiar with this model, become curious about what is written and it starts a very lively conversation.
Nothing should be there! The design of dial allows to keep that space free…
The blue version of MC Date really stunned me. I would say said it’s sliver counterpart is a bit too low key. However in terms of MC Calendar, I still prefer the silver one on my wrist, as the white characters on deep blue is too apparent for me.
Thanks for sharing!
Why only 800pcs?? :((
VERY good question!!! I simply don't know...
Maybe JLC are trying to restrict supply to make their residual prices higher.
Hello. Great job👍 I have the opportunity to bye a “new” 2018 Omega speedmaster 1948 senter dial. Also considering master control. What do you think?
Best regards
You MUST compare both watches 1:1 on your wrist in different light conditions and then let your heart decide... it won't lie 😉
Nice watch 👍
Which one is your favorite?
What color is the strap? I can’t tell if it’s black or dark blue.
Dark blue
Drk blue with stitching that matches the light blue seconds track on the dial. Its semi-gloss
Can try Longines Master Collection for a more affordable version
You could - yes… But a JLC does by no means compare to a Longines…
@@WatchAdvisor yes and in no way am i saying they are the same thing or equal level. it's just another good watch with a similar look at a lower price. =)
This or Glashutte Senator Sixties in blue/ice blue?
Excellent choice, but you must decide - sorry! The best is two compare them 1:1 on your wrist in different light conditions... Then let your heart decide, it won't lie...
What would you choose if you had to pick? I know them both reasonably well. Dial wise, as incredible as the sixties is, I'm a sucker for applied indices and prefer the JLC handset. Case is a wash is I think the JLC case is a little more complex in design and finish, but the GO has the beautiful box sapphire. I think the GO movement finishing is actually a little better due to the bevelling on the edges and black polishing, but JLC movement is a little more modern and with a solid gold rotor. For me, the JLC ever so slightly takes it but both are fantastic watches.
I can’t decide either… blue is my favorite watch color and both are stunningly beautiful and technically sophisticated… well in the end I’d probably buy both starting in alphabetical order with the Glashütte Original…
I'd choose the Master Control Calendar over the GO, but the GO over the MC Date.
The Calendar model is incredibly beautiful and the complication is nice and, for JLC, historically significant. That said, the GO is thinner and also has a beautiful dial.
Is it really limited to 800 pieces?
Yes!
Bellissimi !!!
Grazie!!
Why you have to make these kind of noises/ sounds?
Nice information tho 👍🏻
What are you referring to?
Now in Salmon, please!!
Good idea 👍🏼 Much better than green IMHO!
Enjoyed the video. Absolutely stunning watches! One drawback for me unfortunately, I like my dresswatches to be around 37mm. Otherwise this is a perfect watch!
Thanks for sharing! Well, size still matters and tastes are different…
I agree, I tried it on, just felt too big the dial is huge (and I like big watches), this type of watch should be 37mm, sports watch sizes applied to small bezel dress watch design doesn’t work!
@@rey_s90 37 mm would definitely be too small… the watch wouldn’t sell…
@@WatchAdvisor you say that but look at the Lange Saxonia 37mm, it is the popular size, the 40mm is like a sundial .......Nomos Orion 35-38 sell well, the datejsut 36 (which is 35mm 3 to 9) sells just fine as well.....I think there are enough people who appreciate a more restrained size for this type of watch...
@@rey_s90 Maybe the smaller size fits to some models, but I don’t think it would to this JLC… IMHO this watch is perfectly balanced in size and thickness…
Price ?
mentioned in the video....
The text on the moon phase calendar is big and long. I think JLC take your words seriously, and maybe the next model would be more discrete.
The price of the time/date is for what you get a bargain. Why? Simply, it is a high grade manufacture and competitors ask much higher prices.
Let’s hope! That’s just too much IMHO…
Is this a promotional video? Sure, there are some nice touches, the dial definitely isn't. It's a pity, it would basically have been enough to simply take the moon phase with the golden stars and moon for the Master Control Calendar. Together with an all-blue dial like the Ultra Thin Moon, that would have been the icing on the cake. But this light blue minute strip only distracts from the beautiful details on the dial, just can't inspire me.
The minute strip is my favorite part 🤷♂️
@@martinblanklikeswatches Wow, tastes can be so different. So this watch is a jewel for you. It would be stupid if everyone liked the same watch.
I like the blue strip too! I have ordered this watch because I am attracted by the light blue minute track which makes the watch look so unique. It also gives this watch a “modern” feel comparing with the regular silver colour version which is a little old fashion.
@@yatmanau I see something similar with the "regular silver color version". I would call it more classic than old-fashioned, but for me it's just a bit bland at the current price. Maybe that's why my personal judgment is so unusual because I actually have a soft spot for classic models. I like a very reduced dial, so the already mentioned Ultra Thin Moon suits me very well. Then I hope for you both a lucky hand to get them.
The non centered crown is an absolut show stopper. Looks terrible.
Yeah, I'm wondering if there's a purpose to that lower positioning.
@@dans4323 It is not a true chronograph movement. It is modular. That is why the crown is that low. It is nothing but aweful. Would not expect this from JLC.
JLC and IWC are my favorite Swiss watch brands
Good choice! 😉
These are the only 2 mechanic watches I have. Our tastes are the same
