To everyone about to take their class 1 or class 2 test, firstly, best of luck and I hope you enjoy the test. Like any exam, don’t worry, try to stay calm and remember, the examiner just wants to feel safe as your passenger. You don’t need any driving tips as you’re already at this stage and have most likely had enough lessons and practice and know how to handle the truck. But for the test, all you need to do, is make the examiner feel safe during your drive. Take it steady, use ALL of the available space on your road, and if possible, talk out loud. Like a self commentary, explaining what you’re seeing and what you’re going to do. This gives the examiner confidence in your ability to drive safely. I believe in you! BrotherTruckerUK 😎👍🚛💨
Brilliant advice nerves are the killer on tests they make you do irrational things that can screw you up. I have done both car, Bus and class 1 license and was nervy on the first 2 and got 6 and 9 minors respectively on my class 1 test I had finally mastered the art of not being nervous and passed with 0 minors which shocked me.
Starting my week and a half training next week im really nervous as i have a lot of personal circumstances depending on if i pass… thankyou for the advice i will keep this in mind! I will hopefully be taking my test in a familiar area around where i live so lane selection shouldn’t be an issue however silly mistakes like the trailer tyre mounting the kurb or pulling out and causing an obstruction or failing to indicate to go around a parked car is my worst fear as i know the minors will add up quickly
Hi buddy how's it going hope you are well and ready for the summer brilliant route you could have clipped the curb on a few occasions on that route but you were outstanding take care and good luck for the future Phil 👍🍀🇬🇧
The key is to control your nerves and have some confidence my class 1 test was the only test I did this in and I got 0 minors, in my car test I got 6 minors I was nervous, in my Bus test I was really nervous and got 9 and was shocked I even passed. Nerves will cause you to behave irrational try not to be nervous. Done 3 test + 1 resit for my car license. Control those nerves people you can do it just don't let nerves hamper your efforts.
Just passed my Theory Hazard and CPC yesterday. I am very lucky I work for Aldi I'm on their apprentice driver scheme. It's 12 month's of training a ton of training and practical experience before I take my class 1 test. Plus it's a guaranteed job at the end of it. Also we have trucks and trailers and a yard so we get so much time behind the wheel it's an incredible program. If your thinking about getting into HGV's I highly recommend it. Yes you do have to be contracted as an Aldi employee for at least a year.....and be a good and professional employee for at least a year before you can apply. But seriously your paid to train you don't pay a penny for tests or lessons. And you know there is a well paid job at the end. Once you finish the course your a very qualified driver as there are master classes during the course. Once they are on your CV you will be able to get a job anywhere if you decided to leave the company. Not sure why you would leave though.
Totally agree. My instructor’s advice didn’t give me confidence with busy roundabouts, lane splitting, appropriate speeds, passing pedestrians, and tricky junctions. Your videos made these areas clear so I used your advice and that gave me the confidence to pass. I only had one chance, so I’m very grateful. Thank you!
A really helpfull video, thank you. I've failed 2 times now, not checking behind me while on a roundabout and 2nd time not looking at the mirrors properly although my eyes were constantly on them i wasn't doing it properly, something first tester had no problem with. I've had 4 instructors (you are my 5th lol) and 3 different lorries while training so no consistency making me confused. Waiting to hear if i get a 3rd go but i feel like it's a lottery if you pass or not but ill keep watching your videos to help me, thank you!
I've been taught to indicate left after going straight on at them mini painted roundabouts I've got my test Tuesday and I'm watching your videos get more tips
Hi Patrick I would like to say thank you for making these videos they really did help me pass my HGV class 1 last month. Would you be able to give me some advice regarding getting work as I’m being rejected constantly. As I don’t have experience minimum requirement is 6 months I’m based in Derby would you recommend any company or guidance Thanks Ibrahim
We are based in Bedfordshire so around here we are able to help and certainly we doing that to our students. What I recommend to put together nice CV and covering letter and register at total jobs.com and apply only for the ones that say no expierience required, say that we are at the beginning of the year and that’s always hard one for transport. Register with few local agencies, they will find you something to start with, u have to put yourself out there. Drive safe🤙🏻
Got my drivers license at 15 got into trucks at 18, 54 now about 4,000,000 kms under my belt only one accident i was pulling out of a side st and a car tried to undertake me my 2nd trailer went over the bonnet of his car, cab was already going straight on the road i was turning onto had no chance of seeing him, was probably doing 20km/h when i felt trailer grab him. 24 metres 54 tonne, good times.
That’s was quite common sense obviously you have to consider the size of the lorry position correctly and have good orientation.but I never saw how you going to turn right on a small roundabout.im sure everyone will be fine doing left turns so how about show how you going to turn right on a tiny roundabout.😊
Let’s just say this. Come to us and I will take you for these easy left turns, if you are so sure I bet you will get this easy left turns with no problems, do you know which ones creating most fails? Do you have statistics and gone through them to see what is helping people the most? And of course it’s all common sense that’s why you watched it🤙🏻 keep at it. And drive safe😁
It's really not as hard as you might think. Just take it slow and steady, check your mirrors regularly and do what your instructor has told you to do. The examiner isn't there to trick you. I passed first time after a 1 week course.
Do not ask yourself for speed limits during the test, ask yourself for speed limits every time you drive. And follow all the rules and law all the time not during the test only. Thanks!
I know not class 1 but passed my class 2 first time with much credit and thanks to Patrick and his team at the retro school of motoring
Thank you Ryan🤙🏻

The test is a bit easier but when you're on the road by yourself that's when the real test starts
As always amazing tips from Patrick 😊
