    Having watched this more than once, I think that the ball being used is a practice ball as opposed to a day/night white cork ball. i.e the ball being used is most likely non-lethal despite being bowled at 90mp/h by virtue of it being softer than a cork ball. However, even a tennis ball hitting you at that speed will definitely leave a mark in the morning

    Funny how times change. All the modern day cricketers thought this was hilarious. A lot of the gentlemen from Cricket's yesteryear condemned this as a dangerous pantomime. To be fair, they probably had a point. The visor doesn't really offer much protection if the ball hits you full on. Just ask Daniel Flynn after what Jimmy Anderson did to him. If this was anyone other than Piers Morgan, I'd probably condemn it too. As a low level club cricketer myself and having faced an 80 mph bowler on a couple of occasions, I can't get my head around how a non-professional has any chance at all of facing Lee's pace. Admittedly, Lee's days of bowling 90 plus were long at this point, but I'd guess it's still mid to high eighties. I'd say the chances of coming away from this with an injury is very real as the untrained eye can't get out the way quick enough. I'm just glad it was Piers Morgan facing it and not a nice person.

    • @Anderschristoph125
      @Anderschristoph125 9 років тому +22

      But Piers did it of his own accord no one forced him. It's the risk everyone takes. Sean Abbott isn't as quick as Lee and he killed someone, it's just the risk you take.

    • @demontweeker3429
      @demontweeker3429 9 років тому +21

      anders christopherson Very true. That wouldn't stand up in other sports however. A normal person wouldn't be allowed to get in the ring and ask to go an adulterated round with Vladimir Klitschko, just because they wanted to.
      The point of a sport being professional is that you are licensed and considered able to compete on a level playing field against your opposition. As you rightly say, Sean Abbott killed someone of International pedigree, so how is it allowed that an amateur can get up there to have a go, just because he wants to? For the record, I don't like Piers Morgan at all and I personally enjoyed watching it. That said, I'm not sure it's really a good advert for entertainment.

    He's just toying with him. That wasn't really quick, and he wasn't really trying to hurt him, or bowl him. Just roughing him up a little.

    I think Morgan is a lucky guy to face Brett Lee! Being a 90's kid it was an absolute beauty to watch him bowl back then and even today!!

      I doubt Morgan though he was lucky when he suddenly realised he had just agreed to a fast bowler to bowl at him a hard round missile that might hit his body at 90 Plus miles per hour. He could easily have been seriously injured in this as Piers is not a test match standard batsman. I think he is lucky he got through this without getting seriously injured.

    Don't know the law in Australia, but you can't be assaulted in the UK as a consenting participant in sport, unless the action falls outside of the rules i.e. A footballer punches another player.
    Bouncers are a part of cricket.
    Piers got what Lee lawfully gave him...

      UK with this level of irritating law cases (people taking legal action for silly things) is bringing its economy down........ I dont think UK can pay benefits to it't citizens after 5 years....

    • @jacobdoyle4966

      Yes, that is correct in Australia also. By participating in sport is giving consent to possible injury means you are unable to sue for negligence or other legal action.

  • @Newworldman66
    @Newworldman66 10 років тому +34

    What did everyone expect to happen? Piers Morgan is just the big mouth/egotistical/opinionated type with no actual tangible ability. If you don't have genuine batting talent, then you've got zero chance of seeing the ball, until it's too late, when the bowler is sending them down at you at around 90mph. Brett Lee was effectively bowling bodyline here and Morgan clearly didn't even know the correct position to take, let alone possess the actual skills needed to effectively deal with such bowling.

      That’s your opinion / maybe compare Brett with some of your Indian pacemen like srinath prasad Abey Kuruvilla Debashish Mohanty A Agarkar these were the pacemen around at the time Brett was in his prime or you can add Zaheer Khan Irfan Pathan sreesanth all these bowlers are capable of bowling above 90mph and caused havoc in there prime the world batsmen feared these express pace bowlers 🤣🤣🤣 it’s obvious Shoaib Tait weren’t in there league in your opinion right !!

    It's so tough to make yourself stay in line as an amateur against that pace, but backing away to leg looks ridiculous. That must be 10 or 20 mph quicker than anything I ever faced... I used to get so far across to the off side that I got myself in a tangle.

    • @aaronlevine6498
      @aaronlevine6498 5 років тому +1

      At that pace by Lee it would have been very hard to do,to stay in line and risked a hit right on the body especially if ure an amateur...

      Totally agree, not a good over, but Lee was proving a point. After all, Morgan boasted he could play fast bowling better than the English batsmen, a statement Lee took great exception to as he always had great respect for his fellow cricketers.
