  • I traveled to a small village called Prisap, which is near the town of Livno in Bosnia and Hercegovina. I was able to locate the house that my great grandfather was born in, and I also got to meet some of my Croatian relatives.
They were the best hosts, providing me with ample amount of food and village history. Even though the town is located in Bosnia, the village and nearby towns are majority Croatians and influenced heavily by Croatian culture.
I reconnected with my Croatian roots.

Hi, I’m from Melbourne Australia. I just watched your video today. My mum, dad and older brother were born in Prisap. They moved to Australia in the late 60’s. My mum was actually watching this video the other day. Her maiden name is Lijovic as well. Maybe we are distant cousins?? Haha. So glad you got to see where your great grandfather is from. I’ve only been to Livno once when I was 5. Always great to see where our family is from. Xx

Wow that's so cool!! I'm sure we are related. I knew that some of our family had gone to Australia, but never knew the details.

I think what you're doing is wonderful, almost half of all Croatians live abroad, over 3 million, we Croats should go home, it's best at home.svaka čast, pozdrav

Crazy similar story! My dad was born in sinj & me mum in Rijeka. Both sets of my grandparents migrated to Sydney, Australia so my parents grew up & meet there, which is where I was born & raised. We used to go to sinj as kids cause my grandparents have a house there & their siblings still live there. We probably unknowingly ventured into your village lol. I now live in nyc. Insane how we end up all over the globe. Excellent video. I share the same name as your great grandfather 😅 I was named after my great grandfather lol

That's so cool! My cousins in this video told me that our family originally lived in Sinj, and then walked to this village (Prisap) in the early 1800s because there was more land for livestock. There is actually still a lot of people in Sinj with my prezime (Liovic).

@@balkannomad that’s so cool! I wonder if my family there knows anyone by your surname, probably. While it’s passed this year, if you find yourself in sinj again, check out the sinjska alka & Gospa sinjska. They’re two of our attractions, usually in May/June. Hmu if you’re ever in nyc. Are you from America now?

You roots are actually Croatian - Dalmatinska Zagora and Istria. His roots are Bosnian, he is just Catholic that's all. I think this is why Bosnia has so many problems - everyone identifying as their religion, no Bosnian unity.

Nice video ! My father is left his village close to Arzano (BABIC) not too far from Sinj as well ! His father was born in 1897 and built 3 houses for his 3 sons who had left anyone to work and live in Germany and Canada !
