As a broncos fan who's watched footy for a long time now, I really enjoy watching teams who have struggled for a while come back and start to play well. I find the bulldogs games are my favourite to watch this year, every game is and absolute banger and just watching the dogs play is a treat.
People keep saying Cleary hasn't dominated origin, even though he has been part of 3 series wins but what they forget is he debuted at around 21 years old, he is only 26 now, Moses, Cleary, Luai, Hynes, Katoa, and probably a few more. NSW are blessed with halves for a long time to come.
1st one was a combination of QLD running on old legs and the blistering speed and size that nsw had. Teddy Fox Trell Turbo Fergo Maloney Cleary 2nd and 3rd was Turbo and Latrells presence that won those games. IM NOT SAYING HES NOT A GOOD PLAYER. I just think he himself has not been the difference in any of those series wins.

Shaun Johnson did speak about coaching but not first grade. He spoke on this subject on his Play On podcast in the Retirement announcement. He said there’s openings for younger grades, he’s in talks with the Warriors to stick around and would love to do halves coaching or open a SJ Academy for young players. He will be a great mentor for young players, what he has can’t be taught but teaching the mind of a Halfback he can do and that’s enough to raise the next generations of New Zealand talent. What I gathered from his chat, he won’t be a head coach in the future just working with the youth

Hey boys. Interesting to finally see somebody in the media (360 last night) talking about the state of the play the ball. I've been dropping comments on various Levels poddies throughout the year on this. The speed of the ruck is the most important outcome in determining every game - and the NRL have allowed the play the ball to become a farce. There is no reward for players doing the right thing and no punishment for players doing the wrong thing. It's no wonder coaches are telling players to play tunnel ball out there. It will be interesting to see if the referees start enforcing the rule or continuing to allow players to get away with it.
Willie, I've retired, have time so I've been watching all State of Origin games (on NRL site). I'm up to 2007, despite being a Queenslander I really love see "Big Willie" in action. You are a legend Mate, love and respect 👍

Trained under Gary in the NYC system 10ish years ago and admittedly I’m one of those people he broke 😂 Aussie schoolboys, Matt’s, ball the rest of it but Gaz didn’t care for reputations and broke me after just one pre season. Guy is ruthless! Funny Gaz story… he used to call Marcelo Montoya ‘Marshmellow Montoya’ in the gym 😂
The worrying thing about Gutho kicking is consistency. Each kick comes off the boot differently, there’s no consistency. He slices some, he hooks others. Even down to his run up and pre-routine, he struggles with the repetition. A first grade goal kicker needs a consistent, repeatable action. I always think back to Thurston. His pre kick routine was the same every single time and it led to almost every kick coming off the tee the same.
"He's an Immortal." side eye haha Mad breakdown, thought of so many other teams that do have a bit too many playmakers during the clutch moment, meaning they didn't/haven't come off as well as Panthers not saying their bad just a bad bounce sometimes.
As a broncos fan, I enjoyed watching the bulldogs play with their grit and defence. Even when they beat us without Critta with the strategy ciraldo deployed couldn’t make me mad. Cirro and Crittas really turned things around for them, but it’s a team effort. So kudos to them for bouncing back and just working hard for each other. Hey boys. I have a background in athletics up in QLD. They dont have Pole Vault, Hammer throw or Steeplechase in Little Athletics due to safety more than anything. These are events that are introduced at the Amateur level to older kids that are still interested in the sport. If you come through Little Athletics - Pole Vaulters are usually good at Long Jump and High Jump - As you need to have a quick run up and an explosive take off. The biggest thing you need is no fear of heights- its probably the most 'mentally challenging' event to master in the sport of Athletics. Steve Hooker went from winning a gold medal at Beijing in 2008 to being unable to get off the ground and doing 3 run throughs in 2012 at London.
Boys - can the O.G's, as previous elite athletes, share a couple of their best tips for some battling L1D1's to drop a couple kg's. Simple diet / training advice would be super appreciated.

What do you guys think to overhauling how golden point works. The most gut wrenching feeling would have to be losing in ot, and feel like if the teams draw level at FT they should both get a point. And have a golden try type ot where you can kick fgs and if you are infront after the 10 you win, but if a team scores a try it’s over, said winner gets 2 points and the loser gets 1.

Then later you both discuss why wouldn’t they have the more modern players like OG in Hall of Fame, Immortals etc. Well I think that nails it on the head, like Gus Gould has been saying maybe this generation + OG and Horo’s generation just wouldn’t appreciate the prestige as much as they will later in life… any truth to this?
It should be later in life, Joey got it way too early, the others are all long retired from the game or no longer with us. The criteria has been shortened to just 3 years after retiring, I reckon they are going to give it to Cam Smith, after all the cap problems and rule changes and ref whispering?

Boys, just on the Sharkies - that system they used at the weekend was the same one they used when they beat Melbourne earlier this year against Nicho. Brailey named at 7, but played 9 and controlled their game. Atkinson at 6 to kick and organise attacking shape. McInnes as an extra forward. Do you boys think it's feasible to run this system when Nicho returns? Play him at 6, let Brailey control the side until the opponents half or 40 and then let Nicho run wild. I thought this at the time of their Melbourne win, given it gives them an extra forward through the middle, but do you lads think they could roll this as a permanent system?

I don’t think there is such thing as coaching in origin (except 2020 origin when the worst side in QLD history beat us) and this year when Madge brought the shield home, but I still think Mal Meninga should get a start as a top player who successfully transitioning into coaching, not sure if skip and OG agree?
Did you hear the chat on NRL 360 about the play the ball I raised this last year in my mates group chat and again in state of origin during game 2 I firmly believe broncos lost the GF last year due to an increase in play the ball speed due to players not touching the ball or making an effort to use foot. Calling out Dylan Edwards as the worst for it. His play the balls are a joke. If you watch him he never fully stands is pretty much fully bent over and just rolls the ball almost as if he playing touch. He’s not the only one but one I notice the most This ramped up in the final 20 when he started taking more carries which increased the ruck and reduced time for broncos players to get on side and Cleary took advantage. If you watch the eels v parra game in the final 10 majority of panthers players started doing it. There ruck speed increased massively and they rolled up the field as eels couldn’t retreat quick enough. I wrote to Pete Valandy’s at the end of last season but fell on deff ears
Thoughts on the latrell white powder photo, I’m a big latrell fan and obviously he’s in the wrong but wtf is up with braith anasta sharing the photo around the gronk I’ve always liked braith but I feel this is him getting back after how Lachlan illias was treated and used as a scapegoat for south’s bad run and how latrell was in mediocre form and the noise of how latrell Cody run the club ect, and obviously another incident on when latrell had enough of the chat about him and south’s and stood braith up in a cafe and hit him up about what they’d been saying about him on 360, I could be wrong but I just feel this is a salty braith trynna get back at him for all this and no doubt will pump it up on 360 so if he truely has shared this around what a dog move, but don’t worry they love him when he’s wearing blue.

With the Flanagan v Ciraldo coach of the year debate. Ciraldo clearly has had a better year this season. But I think if you compare both their first seasons Flanagan easily wins out. It will be good to see when Flanagan gets the players he wants like Ciraldo has.

Boys, just on the Sharkies - that system they used at the weekend was the same one they used when they beat Melbourne earlier this year against Nicho. Brailey named at 7, but played 9 and controlled their game. Atkinson at 6 to kick and organise attacking shape. McInnes as an extra forward. Do you boys think it's feasible to run this system when Nicho returns? Play him at 6, let Brailey control the side until the opponents half or 40 and then let Nicho run wild. I thought this at the time of their Melbourne win, given it gives them an extra forward through the middle, but do you lads think they could roll this as a permanent system?

I firmly believe broncos lost the GF last year due to an increase in play the ball speed due to players not touching the ball or making an effort to use foot.
Calling out Dylan Edwards as the worst for it. His play the balls are a joke. If you watch him he never fully stands is pretty much fully bent over and just rolls the ball almost as if he playing touch. He’s not the only one but one I notice the most
This ramped up in the final 20 when he started taking more carries which increased the ruck and reduced time for broncos players to get on side and Cleary took advantage.
If you watch the eels v parra game in the final 10 majority of panthers players started doing it. There ruck speed increased massively and they rolled up the field as eels couldn’t retreat quick enough.

Thoughts on the latrell white powder photo, I’m a big latrell fan and obviously he’s in the wrong but wtf is up with braith anasta sharing the photo around the gronk I’ve always liked braith but I feel this is him getting back after how Lachlan illias was treated and used as a scapegoat for south’s bad run and how latrell was in mediocre form and the noise of how latrell Cody run the club ect, and obviously another incident on when latrell had enough of the chat about him and south’s and stood braith up in a cafe and hit him up about what they’d been saying about him on 360, I could be wrong but I just feel this is a salty braith trynna get back at him for all this and no doubt will pump it up on 360 so if he truely has shared this around what a dog move, but don’t worry they love him when he’s wearing blue.

With the Flanagan v Ciraldo coach of the year debate. Ciraldo clearly has had a better year this season. But I think if you compare both their first seasons Flanagan easily wins out. It will be good to see when Flanagan gets the players he wants like Ciraldo has.
