Just a reminder that "Flamenco" originated from the Romani immigrants that arrived in Spain. They were prosecuted because of their culture, but now Spaniards claim it as their own and TO THIS DAY discriminate against Romani people. Remember to be kind to Romani people and thank them for such beautiful culture.

Lol I'm Spanish ..no ..no we don't claim it . We claim it developed in Spain as a consequence of the Romani being in Spain. You deny it? Smh

This movie is played in the Caves Museum in the Sacromonte district of Granada. According to the museum, it was filmed in one of those caves, where the Romani people lived, on the outskirts of Spanish society, and developed this art form.

The Same in Spain. Spain is very poor so no surprise they get the worst treatment! Look at Spanish colonies of the Americas us natives and Africans where slaves to the Spaniards!

I once saw someone describe the dance as a pure expression of pain, a defiance of the standards and life itself.

    Ole'!!! Ole'!!!
    The Boy Dancing~
Is one of the greatest dancers, I've ever seen. Two Black Brazilian boys dancing in the street in Curuzu, Salvadore de Bahia Brazil, in the middle of the night, as Ile' Aiye' Dancers, Singers & the Bateria drummed with military precision with the heart beat of Africa, from where they were enslaved & taken to Bahia, Brazil & other far off destinations, into the most vicious and heartless creature ever to exist on Earth~ Man!!!
The boys danced in a style seen in the Condomble' Religion, they Danced with the spirit of the Orixas in them, movement of a supernatural higher force within them.
The vehicle for the Gods to express themselves from a place both far and near.
The extraordinary power to move in a such an esoteric and symbolic way, as this young man demonstrates exquisitely, is phenomenal and as all things from the spirit world, language and meaning, in my experience, always are communicated having not one meaning but multiple ways to interpret the devine meaning.
In the dance by this young man, driven with such astounding passion, in a the form true to how the spirit world speaks, his dance can fit perfectly into many Genres of Music, fast to slow, the movements make a statement, facial expression that define intent. The sweeping of the foot, the fingers intertwine in a symbolism that is deep. The gallop of a horse the way the body travels in space, the hands over the head, resembling a flower growing, all done with bravado and motivated at this moment with everything riding on it with conviction that defies a mere rehearsal. Something is speaking to us. Who is the audience besides the few family members that are watching???
It is us the voyeur that this performance is to contemplate it's symbolism and power that is expressed of a higher power that we are blessed to witness.
My respect and empathy to all that have suffered by the hateful heart of man, that we all suffer.
Our destiny was to love life and to live it with passion so that we could grow, that is the message, so exquisitely expressed in dance by this young man, that bring tears to my eyes and pain in my heart to see a true masterpiece of dance.
To the young man a lifetime ago, I hope that you are here with us still and if not, your Dancing in that place both near and far.
Thank you for speaking to us in such a form. To Culture, to Life and Love for Eternity.
    Sincerely,
    Randy Chavez

Love. I grew up in America and I am all European a mishmash. I recently found out that I had a surprise and then I am Spanish and Portuguese. Along with everything else Italian Norwegian Irish Greek and the list goes on. I always danced like this.. I have videos My mother took of me when I was little and I always dance like flamenco. I still did it sometimes not too long ago and my friends would always say I did well just playing around of course. It is in my heart it is in my soul💃❤️🤍💙🇺🇸 Hi recently have been practicing and bought some beautiful sky flamingo skirts and hats and I feel very well. It is my happiness.

No they dont gypsies are not rajasthan people. Gypsies are a mixture of all kind of ethnicity and ONE of them being rajasthan. Gypsies can look scandinavian, slavic, southern european, indian, arab and even a bit african. Gypsies have a complete uniqe culture a mix of all the countries theyve past thru.

They originally came from India but settled in different countries, mixed with other races and adopted their culture, some look Asian and some who have intermarried with Europeans look European. The Bulgarian gypsies I met look more Indian or Middle Eastern Their DNA shows that they are of South Asian origin, which is Indian. Unlike the present day Indians who have emigrated abroad and are professionals eg in the medical line and computer specialists, the gypsies preferred the nomadic lifestyle or were not integrated into the community they lived in and therefore did not do well.

Mahalo I saw the most beautiful black and white movie, I think in the 60s . Single male dancer in Seville dancing between streams of water from street cleaners hoses. Could this be the movie. Any Information, much appreciated. Alynne

The great dancer, Antonio Gades in Los Tarantos (1963) with the legendary Carmen Amaya. The setting was Barcelona, not Sevilla. A beautiful, harsh film.

It's a Swedish documentary from the late 50's early 60's aprox. The voice explaining things, is speaking Swedish.
Would have been good if the whole film was put out here, or know the title, so I could find it somewhere.
Flamenco in those days was much purer and more spontaneous..before the big tourism development, which led flamenco to becoming more commercialized as "show bizz". But..having said that, it also allowed for and encouraged more professionalism and flamenco's development to a true, stylized art form, also !

They are not gypsies. they had to flee the catholic church courts qt the time. they were left with no money and no hope. Ran to the mountains and lived like hopeless farmers and this is what they did to express their sadness.
