I would like to retroactively apologize for my microphone being so bad during this speedrun. I was still yet a poor little fella making due with the gear I had at the time. Anyways, if you didn't know, the new long awaited sequel - Chocobo Racing GP - is available now! I'll be streaming it quite often and hopefully make a proper review video of it here in the coming days. Thank you for the views over the years and please remember to be kind to one another, you never know who it might save. :)
Intentionally falling down a hole to avoid Megaflare? That's actually pretty clever. Never watched a speedrun of this game before, and I wouldn't have thought of that. Anyway, crazy RNG and nice skill! Very well done.
Legit bought this game within the hour of finding an unopened copy my local game store... I bought it because my friend and I had always joked about "Multiplayer chocobo racing" and I'd finally found just that! You kicked some major butt with this speedrun, my man! Keep it up.
Great run! Love playing this game as a kid and the cactus man as a character made me laugh. Little fact. Fantasia is different from the US version and Japanese version of the game. No green yellow guard rails in the Japanese one.
Speedrunning a game full of RNG sounds painful. I played this game a lot when I was younger, some of the later tracks are actually pretty tough, even without the RNG...you played perfectly.
It's painful when you start out but once you really understand how and when you can EXPECT things to happen or not happen. Usually on a speedrun i'll sit there going "Ok I can only afford 2 or 3 fireballs before this run is screwed
Doing a 100% speedrun of this would be hell itself i don't even wanna think about it... 100% would mean all playable characters (From Squall to Jack) and Bahamut Class completed in Grand Prix, am i right? Or we should also count all tracks in mirror mode?
Damn that was awesome! I always thought there was a shortcut in Vulcan-o-valley. Have you seen a door in the valley part? I always thought it was a shortcut but cant figure out how to get to it.
OMG that's amazing! I was trying to get your time on Mog's track but without the handicap I couldn't crack 1:20! I think the door is just part of the backdrop but I so wanted it to be a secret!!! PS this is my favourite game I'm so glad to find such an awesome speedrun!!!!
As far as my completely uninformed opinion is concerned, spin boosts might be too difficult to take advantage of in RTA speedruns. The Story Mode TAS on tasvideos.org does use spin boosts, so theoretically they are faster.
@@tylerlarsen1842 The TAS doesn't do it if you're talking about the Invincible one because its genuinely just way faster to not do them at that point. However, now, I think theres a few spinboosts that are very much faster, but as it stands, playing on a PSP is faster than ps1+ps2, even ps2 slim by a large amount, so my times were beaten using PSP even though they are inferior runs in terms of luck/skill (no offense to the two guys).
I feel like a chubby chocobo only, no handicap speedrun would be funny. Also I followed you because your animations are cool and I know you'll have a good future. Keep it up.
If I ever use a character there is a deeply thought out reason. For example, in Black Mage Manor, I take Goblin because if I didn't his AI version would be in the race and steal from me every x amount of seconds. Same with taking Black Mage, hes good, fast, pretty reliable handling, but ultimately its because he will take one power up (e.g. Fire crystals) and have them upgrade to Level 3 which would guarantee me getting my ass roasted by a Level 3 fireball constantly, or even worse, Thunders, etc. So for your question, Chubby Chocobo just doesn't cut it especially with things like speed or ability.
@@renabarca1328 Yeah the handling is the factor usually. Even playing at my best it's better to just know I can do pin tight turning to save time/frames in a lot of spots.

amazing speedrun for an amazing game. such a big part of my childhood.
There's a faster run by my buddy Pogyo now, we figured out a load advantage using PSP/PS Vita/PSTV

Anyway, crazy RNG and nice skill! Very well done.
funny how I also randomly did that to avoid the Megaflare thing, can't believe I did that when I was very young
The RNG gods have blessed this run. GG that was awesome, man!
Amazing run. I love your sick decision making at 16:35 to avoid the mega flare.
That ending song always tears me up man. Good job!

Thanks homie

Nice run. Absolutely next level.

I remember liking this game back When I was like 8. 9 maps though...
Well I am so glad to hear that. I hope you enjoy the new game, whether you buy it full price or wait a while for a sale. Cheers!

recently beat the story mode (playing chocobo only) for the first time so im watchin this now, pretty good game
"LOOK AT THAT"
I was here to fill my nostalgia.

Wow. That was just incredible.
Wow, that was amazing!
Thanks man

Congrats man. :D
+Momo Corolise thanks buddy!!
Imagine if Square have a time to explore and improve the mechanics of Chocobo Racing. It has a lot of potential.
You know a sequel is coming out next year yeah? Looks a lot like this but more mario kart 8 esque

Don't recall a door... as for the other comment, it is not a Custom chocobo ! Turn on Handicap in options and it effectively doubles your speed hehe

chocono racing
Thats right
perfect!!
I still love this game 2022 hehe
How to get 100 ability?
i get why you change to Goblin and then Black Mage, but why at the last 2 races speedrunners pick Moog?
Nice run btw
Its an old safety thing but every run past this one used black mage/goblin
Wow u are the best , so pro .
wow
thats a skiled player and super luck
How do you use this dash at the start? I know there is a time but I can't get it right.
Imagine the countdown timer is 4 instead of 3. Press it a second after 3
@@Yarumasi thanks
I've seen some speedruns of this game and I'm curious whether it is better to just run normally or do spin boosts?
As far as my completely uninformed opinion is concerned, spin boosts might be too difficult to take advantage of in RTA speedruns. The Story Mode TAS on tasvideos.org does use spin boosts, so theoretically they are faster.

@@Yarumasi I wasn't referring to the Invincible TAS, there's another TAS that does the Story Mode, and that one uses spinboosts
Also, the current World Record uses spinboosts
I cant figure out how to get the speed boost at the start, even after reading online guides? Do you have tips for it?
I wanna know too
just press the accelerate button exactly. 1 sec after the countdown. imagine there is a fourth count then you got it
its crazy.... u so fast
Yo Chubby Chocobo unlock Speedrun when?
I feel like a chubby chocobo only, no handicap speedrun would be funny. Also I followed you because your animations are cool and I know you'll have a good future. Keep it up.
@@Yarumasi :00000 thank you sir! I’m likening your speedrun
@@Yarumasi and I subbed you too, keep up the good work and maybe one day you will build a community to revive chocobo racing
missing one more driver.. i dont remember his name.. but he is white and his power is a sword that cut others and make him faster.
you're thinking of Squall and that's not playable in Story Mode. He's available in all the other game types, however
yes!! hehe i havent played for years... hes really fast.. :)
Old run. But why Mog and not Chubby Chocobo?

Why are u using Mog in Behemoth and Bahamut place ?
Mog is just as fast as chocobo and has better cornering

Nostalgia
I like your voice, I want to have that voice tho
wait i just realized it now,....your chocobo is at 110 mph at max,but mine only at around 88-90?...how do you do that?
go to the options menu and turn on Handicap. Otherwise, its the difference between km/h and mph I guess
holee vucc :O
Luckiest man alive lol

+alexbatterfieldheroe hey thanks pal
