It doesn't change the fact that it's true. The same thing that's going on here is the same thing that religions use to fool people.
Derren also has a whole bunch of episodes on religions, ghosts and things like that. People are very suggestible. Many people are influenced by very simple things and if you know these techniques that influence people, you can manipulate them. Psychics, religions and con artists use these techniques all the time to get what they want.

I know how a lot of card tricks work and sometimes you'd kick yourself how simple they are, but I'd love to hear anyone have any kind of theory on how that 7 of hearts trick with Jonathan and Jane worked. Like most card tricks it seems impossible, but with this one doubly if not ten times more impossible.
I'd guess a degree of suggestion and psychology. Shuffling under the table and sorting the cards in order are probably major factors in influencing the outcome.

as he is working with the subconscious level, which as i understand it is also the older part of human consciousness, there seems to be little to no sens of "mine and yours". dosen't that indicate that evolutionary this concept does not really exist and it's more a "help whoever needs help and expect to get help as well" approach?
So many of his techniques are based on cooperation and trust. Maybe the world of today does neither reflect our inner nature, nor does it strenghten our ability to feel for one another. Does that make sense? ^^

I wonder if it's because Derren gave them his water bottle, so they believe it is fair that they give him something. Even though the value isn't at all equal.

After he asks if they don't mind him asking he says "It's alright that you give that to me." which implants the suggestion that it's alright for them to give him things. There is also a lot of cognitive misdirection happening through the whole thing, which makes the suggestion work properly. I also wouldn't be surprised if they recorded him doing it several times and only showed a few of the ones that actually worked, as not everyone is as susceptible to suggestions like that.
Had to stop by and watch Bilbo Baggins take on Derren Brown. But where was the ring of power? I didn't see it anywhere!

The card trick that he did where it was a coincidence I did on Penn and Teller fool us and I got phone calls from all over the world asking me how I did it😊
I really enjoy Derren's performances, they're so interesting. I didn't like the sexual innuendo in the first episode, it seemed crass and out of character for him. ☮️

I think that's the power cord for the camera man.
That was the cord from the camera. This works the same way a ouija board works. The people are moving it and they don't realize it. They don't need a cord to move the tables... it's the people. What this shows is how incredibly suggestible people are.

@@cynthiafisher3392 It's how suggestible people are. When Derren gets groups of people, he gives them a little questionnaire and figures out who are the most suggestible. Those are the ones he invites into these groups and these are the types he can hypnotize pretty easily.
And as people get into groups, they are even more suggestible.
Look at the "miracle of the sun"
It literally fooled tens of thousands of people. But we know through science that it didn't actually happen. No astronomers could verify it happened, and it violated physical laws we know are real.
But yet people still believe in it. This is all the power of suggestion and how easily people can be manipulated when they are in groups. And if you know certain techniques about human psychology, con men, psychics and a host of other people use these techniques to control and fool people for financial gain.
