My grandad had one of those cars, He robbed banks..........
Best comment this year!! I'm even gonna pin this one to the top 😀 😂
That's what we thought about my uncle. He didn't drive a Jaguar. But he did own a Cadillac Eldorado . . . .
Naaah! The Jaguar S type was the choice of bank robbers!
ace me man
Watched my older brother build this kit in 1968. Always kept a look out for it but thought it lost with many of the other Airfix car moulds. Then it pops up again 50+ years later!
still crisp for a vintage kit
I bought this model a few months ago and will hopefully be building it shortly. I also had this model way back in the 60's when my model making skills were equal to that of a house brick. I have improved slightly.
From 1970 to the mid-nineties, I built many Airfix kits. I have also been to many toy shops, but in all those years, I have never ever seen a Jaguar 420 kit, so it's nice to see it released again.
I agree.. I’m looking forward to building it
My God I built thiis when it first came out, now I can relive that childhood dream again! (P.S. Im 60 now🤣).
Probably only a handful did.. they haven't released it in years
Same here and I am 60 next month.I remember I painted it green with a brush ( badly)
@@alanthorne3921 Hay, just like me, you did your best and it was beautiful to you at the time, mine was gold and just as bad/good as yours but we loved the majestic effort we undertook for the joy of it.😊{Have a Like)👍
@@MOS6510Models ...And will enjoy doing it again...and yeah, will enjoy reliving my boyhood😊
@UNCLE FESTER I was a big Airfix fan and I am certain the Golden Hind was my first kit (like everyone else). My first ‘big’model was the Bismarck and I did a real good job on that because i mowed a lot of lawns to buy it.
Massive nostalgia hit for me, 2x are on their way direct from Hornby now. Will probably be in metallic steel blue and that gold as per box art. I bought many airfix 1:32 in the late 60s and fitted them to Riko metal chassis for slot car racing eg Model T, Frog Eye Sprite and Bentley. Now all we need is for Airfix to find the Victor Estate moulds as that was superb.
I'll have a look out for that.. Didnt know they did a victor estate
'Red Stripe' is a term for Type 3 graphics on the packaging and lots of artwork by Roy Cross - 1963 - 1972, it's a shortened Type 2 to allow for fuller artwork, also can be found with a yellow and a blue stripe (bagged mini ships), a favourite among collectors as the iconic Airfix packaging and pre-dates the still used red circle logo.
I'm guessing but the shiny plastic is much like the old Humbrol variety, I think used on older tooling compared to the dull finish on new moulds.
I got my pre-order a few days back, a Black Police Car might be a thought if I was building it or research on factory colours to get a contrast to the interior. Selling for £100.00 recently glad to have one at last at a sane price.
I have to agree.. if anything it stops the hawks at shows inflating prices
Incredible detail for a 1/32 scale kit. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
very nice Jaguar 420 is one of my all time favorite cars
I think you should build it my friend :)
Quite a complex kit for the car range; most were very basic. Airfix did go through a horrible ‘half figure’ phase for their vehicles, the worst being the soldiers in the Old Bill bus. Still, it’s good to see the Jag again and with a bit of TLC I reckon it will make a nice display piece. Roll on the Sunbeam Rapier!
Yeah i did wonder who made that decision to do half figures.. the ones in the buggy was fabulous and looked great though
@@MOS6510Models I’ll find out on Christmas Day - the wife has bought me one for my prezzie!
I'd like to see the Sunbeam Rapier re,released.
Nice review, I can't believe that I've only just found it. I've nearly finished this kit and it builds up very nicely, but it isn't a "shake the box" type of kit.
The biggest issue for me was dealing with the sink marks in the body, mainly around the headlamps but also a couple of ones on the boot lid. It's interesting that one of Airfix's own promotional videos shows the built up model complete with sink marks, which is admirably honest.
Technically the inner front mudguard/wing panel is completely inaccurate, as far as I can tell it should be a basically flat panel running diagonally along parallel to the bonnet opening and not a quarter-sphere as Airfix did. But as it doesn't affect the look of the finished model I can let that slide. I'm sure it could be corrected fairly easily by sawing away the offending part and fabricating replacement panels from styrene sheet. At the same time you could scratch build more under bonnet details if you were so inclined.
Other quirks of the kit include the funny shape of the engine block itself (although it's nice to have and doesn't look too odd once it's in the car) and the complete absence of interior door detail. A lot of Airfix kits of this era seem to lack these (I think it's the closed cars like this, the Aston Martin and Triumph Herald that I've noticed, even the Maserati Indy might have been the same). I ended up making some suitable pieced again from styrene sheet.
I've gone with the box colour scheme which seems to represent the original factory colours of Golden Sand Opalescent paint and Oxblood leather upholstery. As far as I can tell Jaguar usually paired body colour with one or maybe two interior colours, e.g. dark green body with sage green interior or dark blue body with blue leather. However it is possible that they would mix and match these if a customer was prepared to pay for it.
Its still in the box here.. thanks for the heads yp.. will have a proper look when i get to build it
Awesome kit and unboxing, have a great weekend my friend
Thanks, you too!
I'm going to get at least two! One will be metallic silver-blue.
Nice.. im gonna do mine british racing green
@@MOS6510Models Excellent choice - I may do that too!
Nice if I get that I might do itvup as the twins version
More interested in that build in the background Mos..Money for old rope that Airfix kit..
If you look on my community tab you will see what scheme im going to use too lol
I could be tempted . . . if I ever run out of kits lol
Or they send you one free?? lol
@@MOS6510Models 😂
Really nice MOS. I always appreciate your content.
I appreciate that! im the same for you.. i dont always get to your premieres but i do try to watch them later
Normally I have no interest in fancy, hoity-toity cars but since this is a rare kit to be re-released I might pick this one up, looks good in black, deep red or dark green.
Love the Boycie reference
Airfix catalogue 2022 is out will you be reviewing it shortly?
Its no pre order.. due out soon and I will be reviewing it
That's a beautiful model, and I hope it will be available in America, soon. I remember seeing this one in a discount store under the MPC label when I was about 10, but I didn't get it. Interestingly, I didn't actually know about Airfix (or FROG) until I was about 12, since the Airfix I built were marketed by MPC, and the FROG by Revell.
Thanks for posting this!
And MiniCraft was academy and frog too.. if you look at the history :)
@@MOS6510Models I first found out about Airfix, FROG, (and Heller from France, and the various Italian manufacturers,) when I got to go to the larger hobby shops near me; especially after I got my driver license. Up until then, I got most of my kits from the nearby discount stores (Target and Venture) which were within walking and bike riding distance. Besides, my money went further at those stores than at the mom and pop hobby shops. But when I had access to the official models imported from the UK and Europe, I was able to get some of the more unusual kits. It was also about that time when I found out about and joined my local IPMS chapter.
Anyway, I promise to pronounce "Jaguar" 'correctly' from now on if Airfix makes their classic 420 available here!
Have you tried building it yet. Mine has sink marks all over the place. Thanks for showing and good luck with it👍😎Pete 🤓
It’s next on the list matey
@@MOS6510Models I've put up several vids of my progress with it. That might give you some idea of the faults
@@petesmodelcarcustoms584 I watched your unboxing matey a couple weeks back.. I’ll watch the rest this week :)
@@MOS6510Models I'm having fun with really greasy clear parts this evening. Most fit ok, but I'm adding some strip at the top of windscreen hole to improve that
What are the flying hours?
I'd like to see the Austin Healey 'Frogeye sprite' re,released.
Thats a great shout :)
Postage, not “shipping”
Very nice model and not badly priced
It said shipping on the invoice matey
See when the start if your video's come through my soundboard n surround sound it's shakes the house it's great haha
Love that!
On the old MPC version, the parts tree with the bumpers and grille was chrome plated. I wish Airfix had done that here. Still I’m looking forward to getting one
Yes someone else mentioned the chrome work on the MPC.. would have been a nice touch
looks like a v8 lump would have had a bit of poke
Shiny plastic might just be that the moulds haven’t been used much or have been polished. Looks like lots of detail which is great. The red colouring in the instructions is a nice idea but it looks like several are incorrect with red parts that are already fitted. Attaching the figure’s arms in situ is going to be tricky unless the fit is perfect.
Price seems high too, for £14, or £20 as it’s likely to be in my local shop, I would really expect chrome bumpers - I’m sure the MPC version released in America had them. I’d be grabbing a couple if they’d been £9-12 but being above that I’m not so sure I’ll bother. But then I mainly build 1/25th scale anyway.
Very fair comments.. i find pre chromed parts awful, ive often mr muscled them with over cleaner and painted my own.. But pricing is still cheaper than the ones you see on ebay as they are originals..
My dad had one it was my favourite car he had I'm going to buy the model
Its a lovely car..
The link to buy one is in the description
I'd have to paint that gloss black. but then most of my motorcycles have been black ha ha
Love this car. Would go nicely next to a 1/32 E-Type
Yes i agree,, Shame the revell E type one had issues in production and wont be released for a while
The original tooling for that kit is as old as I am lol. Will have to see if they do a mkii jag aswell
I’ll probably get the kit for nostalgia plus I served my time in them....
If you have a minute Stuart Hayes, can you please subscribe to the channel.. It really helps us with the youtube algorithm.. Happy Modelling
@@MOS6510Models I have subbed
Hi MOS The plastic from India is a little on the brittle side so be careful when you bending parts to get them to fit mate
Yeah. they claim we like the plastic from there.. i'm not sure...
The Jag advertising slogan back in the sixties was "Grace - Space & Pace."
haha,, thats fantastic.. I know a bloke who ripped the fabric on the ceiling of his jag because the woman he had an affair with was wearing high heals...
I feel the need to wear my tweed jacket and fire up my pipe😂👍. Who doesn’t like an old jag? Great review👍
Fancy reviewing the Takom Zeppelin?
Thanks 👍 If you send me the kit ill review it lol.. i dont think i have that one in my stash
@@MOS6510Models I need you to review it before I buy it😂😂😂
Mizz. Is there a way I can buy online local shops dont have it cold i buy of you
email me :)
Does it have a Leaper??
I'll probably order one using some of my Airfix points
Good shout. And get two hours for next time :)
@@MOS6510Models I've had a look in my pouch of hours, and I have 13. I've got a 1/24 scale spit with 7 points that I haven't cut out as well as I'm getting a Grumman Hellcat which will be another 7 taking me up to 27 points. 20 of which are going on the Bentley Blower 1/12, and the rest on the Jag possibly or saving up for a lancaster or something.
please someone release a resin S-type body....
that doesn't look too bad
No, just a shame the figure is dog ****
My Dad had the 2 door version of this when I was born he had to give it up and get the 4 door one he always regretted it said it just wasn't the same car underneath n rolled around corners to the coupe one! Oops guess it's my fault haha
not the 420, would have been the XJC, a variation of the legendary XJ6, similar front end though
Yeah the plastic will be the cheapest crap to simulate the old classics or something! These thing's were played with by kids so probably had that in mind 😂
Build it!
Thats a good shout
How do you expect to paint such huge surfaces GOLD in a credible way? Gold is a nightmare, even with an airbrush!
Just in conosation with a friend who said "buy gold spray in a can from halfords" .. "and thank me later" he said lol
@@MOS6510Models - good advice but check an image of the car the gold is matched to (or find a modern gold car image you want first) the Halfords can caps tend to look nothing like what's in the can ...gold is stilll a nightmare!
Kray twins
tired old mould getting the runaround again, Airfix do not release enough new kits. old kits and call them classics
True but old things do get called classics 😀
For me just happy they found the moulds and hv released it.
