that was pretty incredible footage. now it's hard to imagine DCA not being there. i remember wondering what that huge mound of dirt was going to be. this was also about the time they ruined tomorrowland.
I was a 25 consecutive year Pass holder and the a cast member for a year. I’ve left the area and live across the country. I miss the monorail schpiel too
This is some pretty golden footage here. This was obviously filmed *very* shortly after ground was broken since it appears that the only bit of progress that has actually been made at this time was the removal of the parking lot blacktop, a bunch of dirt mounds obviously reserved for later landscaping and a bunch of pipes obviously intended for the park's plumbing system.
Wish he would have taken a moment to pan over towards the Disneyland hotel when they stopped at the now downtown Disney monorail station. I would have loved to see the old hotel during that construction phase
This video is awesome! Kinda cool to see how it all once was! At 2:56 I’m assuming the Chevy Tracker and Astro are security/employee vehicles. I guess even back in the 90s Disney still bought GM vehicles. Something kinda cool/random I noticed about Disney.
You're actually both wrong. The gothic block lettering sign everyone remembers was inspired by the Disneyland Hotel sign. Walt had the new sign installed when the Disneyland Monorail was extended to the hotel in order to thematically tie the hotel and the park together. No known footage exists of the original sign. That sign was in place from 1955 to 1961. The gothic block lettering sign was in place from 1961 to 1989.
I ate at that same McDonald's on Harbor Blvd. yesterday when I visited Disneyland and it's crazy to think that that has been there for such a long time.
Not Disneyland Resort 1990s. It was Disneyland. The resort was added when CA Adventure and Downtown Disney opened. As for the video.... I’d change the title. The best part of the monorail isn’t the speed area, it’s inside The Park. Still, thank you for a peek into the past.
Instead of California adventure, they should have made something to show love for the Lion King... Wish Disney would make a special Lion King section...

Danny D I was a kid around this time so I loved that steampunk tomorrow land lol maybe just nostalgia
Steve From Yellowstone l
Brings tears to my eyes, knowing my last trip to disneyland before 2015 was in 1998. Seeing the parking lot being built of DCA.
That was a lot of construction! Hate to say it, but I love listening to the monorail spiels lol. It makes you feel like you're at Disney.
Love all the old voices of the monorail, this new one at WDW is so bad
IIRC that voice is Tom Kane (AKA Yoda)

Awesome 👏
I miss this time. I like the new monorail but the old ones are the best

Good times. Way before COVOD-19😭

The good ole days for sure! :)
simple times, amazing how me and my friends would spend the whole day at 1 park at that time. 8 to 12am..
Wow, thanks for sharing! It brings back so many memories to people when Disneyland was doing some HEAVY construction!
You mean california adventure i loved it
Downtown Disney coming soon
What a nice trip back in time! Thanks guys!
Awesome. My senior year in High School. Great memories.

They Built an entire park within 3 yrs now takes them 3 years just to build 2 rides and a Land
Original Disneyland sign?? Isn't that in John Stamos' back yard?? :)
I believe that's the second sign. The original 55 sign was changed to this one in 1989 from what I remember.

0:46 there’s a building in the back round that looks just like horizons!
That's the convention center!
I ate at that same McDonald's on Harbor Blvd. yesterday when I visited Disneyland and it's crazy to think that that has been there for such a long time.
Wow in just about 3 months galaxy edge will open at Disneyland. Lots have changed lol

DCA looked a lot better back then.
Agreed, now its just marvel and Pixar
Imagine if all that dirt was still there? BTW - this person decided to film from the wrong side of the monorail.
Born 88 and been to Disney lots of times! I reamber that being one big parking lot! I want to go again but I don’t know
0:51 it takes 3 years to complete the construction 🚧 of Disney California adventure.
There’s A MMMMMMMMMMM Mc Donald’s!
one of my moms favorite rides lol no joke she made us get on it every time
great video
Only I have is picture
00:49 and 03:25 We hope you’ll join us in 2001.
So DCA was smaller and cheaper yet took way longer to build than Disneyland
I remember seeing this in 98 I was 17
1998… Dios… being 25 sure is a honor.
I know bro, in 5 years we’ll be 30 😳
@@gogurtz1738AHHH MY GOD!!!! 😱😱
And 9/11 would occur the same year DCA opened.
Mono = One
Rail = Rail
Where did cars park back in the day when DCA was being built? 😮
Between bugs land and paradise pier and nearby parking
native resolution please. I know this was not filmed in hd in 2000
Dude, a McDonald’s!
I Have A Timer
Brain status: broken
