Greg Rollie was the original lead singer of Journey, not Steve Perry. Greg and Neal Shon both formed Journey in 1971 when they left the band Santana. Steve came along years later and shared lead vocal duties with Greg until he decided to leave the band. Greg wrote some incredible music for Journey in the 70's.
Metal Mcfly but they did not have a hit until Steve Perry and have not had a hit since he left. Jonathan Cain wrote faithfully. In addition to the voice Steve gave to the group, he also wrote most of the songs with Neal. Arnel is a guy who trained his voice to sound like Steve. The real voice is Steve. Arnel... is like a Steve Perry cover band. And that’s fine but you can’t call it Journey.

This is being sung by Arnel Pineda who took over for Stevie Perry, with his blessing. There is quite a story that goes with this, that would be interesting for you to read about. They tell the story much better than me. Arnel is from the Philippines the land of all the best singers in the world!!! One of the best rock ballads ever written. Arnel has one of the best voices, but more importantly is his presence. Small of stature, with an out-sized voice as is his presence. I never thought Journey could ever replace Stevie Perry who to me had the perfect rock ballad voice of all-time. I was gratefully wrong as Arnel has certainly done that. You should look up a version that has Stevie Perry singing this, I think you will be surprised at how good he is, and how close Arnel is to him in his vocals. Hello from Texas! Just in case you didn’t know, if you react to any Journey songs, you should react to the band lineup from 1978-1987, when Steve Perry was the lead singer. That’s what true journey fans recognize as “Journey“. He was the sound of Journey and possessed one of the greatest voices ever heard. Unfortunately he eventually had to leave the band because he fried his vocal cords for the love of his audience, hitting all of those loud, high and protracted notes. I am very pleased that Journey found Arnel Pineda to be the lead singer. His personal story is inspiring and he deserves his success. His voice is amazing and the similarity to Steve Perry's voice is uncanny. However, I have to disagree with many who have commented here. Steve Perry is inimitable, and no one does the classic Journey songs better. Of course, this may be like arguing that strawberry ice cream is better than chocolate -- it's a matter of personal preference -- but maybe voice coaches could judge better than we could. In February of 2023 I will finally get to see Journey perform in concert, with Arnel as lead singer, so I will be looking forward to hearing him in person.

This is being sung by Arnel Pineda who took over for Stevie Perry, with his blessing. There is quite a story that goes with this, that would be interesting for you to read about. They tell the story much better than me. Arnel is from the Philippines the land of all the best singers in the world!!! One of the best rock ballads ever written. Arnel has one of the best voices, but more importantly is his presence. Small of stature, with an out-sized voice as is his presence. I never thought Journey could ever replace Stevie Perry who to me had the perfect rock ballad voice of all-time. I was gratefully wrong as Arnel has certainly done that. You should look up a version that has Stevie Perry singing this, I think you will be surprised at how good he is, and how close Arnel is to him in his vocals. I love both versions of this song, and i think you will too. Until the next time.

We should all be thankful that if not for arnel this new generation would not even know the journey band exists. They would have been long been a dead band but then the journey's legacy is revived because of arnel.

I'm a fan of Journey the Steve Perry era. In fact I have almost all their CDs.The advantage of Steve Perry is hes the original singer of this song. But c'mon guys lets face it, dont live in the past. Arnel didnt replace Steve, Journey found him and they need him badly. Without Arnel, Journey would have been dead long time ago. He reasurected the band and earned more for years.

Just in case you didn’t know, if you react to any Journey songs, you should react to the band lineup from 1978-1987, when Steve Perry was the lead singer. That’s what true journey fans recognize as “Journey“. He was the sound of Journey and possessed one of the greatest voices ever heard. Unfortunately he eventually had to leave the band because he fried his vocal cords for the love of his audience, hitting all of those loud, high and protracted notes.
A version of the band Journey is still touring, but with only two long-time members, guitarist Neil Shon and keyboardist Johnathan Cain, who were both around at the height of Journey’s success when Steve Perry was the lead singer.
The lead singer since 2007 is a Filipino named Arnel Pineda, who while possessing an amazing voice which sounds quite a bit like Steve Perry, is just not Steve Perry, like the band is not really Journey. If you don’t have the lead singer of the original band, you really just have a cover band, since Perry sang lead on all of their hit songs.

I was very privileged to have seen Journey perform live at the height of their career back in the 80s, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended, before or since.

I am very pleased that Journey found Arnel Pineda to be the lead singer. His personal story is inspiring and he deserves his success. His voice is amazing and the similarity to Steve Perry's voice is uncanny. However, I have to disagree with many who have commented here. Steve Perry is inimitable, and no one does the classic Journey songs better. Of course, this may be like arguing that strawberry ice cream is better than chocolate -- it's a matter of personal preference -- but maybe voice coaches could judge better than we could. In February of 2023 I will finally get to see Journey perform in concert, with Arnel as lead singer, so I will be looking forward to hearing him in person.
