  • Hey youtubers, this is a quick and dirty demonstration on how i do my streets and roads on my layout using Ron Pare"s foam core board method. Its a very simple way to get outstanding results. Also a shout out to Kevin Smith and this Ho Scale Model Trains & Colorado Joint Line Layout. Check out Kevin's channel for great how to's and a Grade A number one layout.

    Just finished your weathering tips video and this one. Thanks for the great tips, you and Ron have made the decision for me to make my roads out of foam board. Great work and layout. Keep it up.

    Many thanks to you and Ron Pare! This technique was just what I needed for my transition era small town area. These are the best asphalt roads I have every done.

    Once again, another comment, watched this one also a couple of times now! Really enjoying your How-To video's and hope the feedback has inspired more of them, many more I hope. This was a great how-to, where these idea's on different techniques are all over the place, you seem to have a knack for sharing where your inspiration came from! :) The roads and streets on a layout are a very important part of bringing out that realism, I totally agree with you on this. This would be a great clinic to have for the modelers! Geno, Awesome, always awesome how-to's. Thanks!

    I use the foam board for retaining walls and sidewalks. I was also going to use it for my back drop. I use fine ballast to make my roads. Its a bit of work but looks good. Thanks for sharing. Your roads look great.

    Thank you so very much for this video. I am just starting out and roads, both street and dirt/field, have been driving me nuts. I've been working on dioramas with joint compound and water putty. Sand sand sand....I like the texture of the water putty but it is so hard to work with. I am going to do this technique today. Thanks so much! And yes, I subscribed ;-)

    hey Geno.... that was a great "how to" vid... if you where doing a concrete road would you use more white than black?? can you use this method on styrene? ANY HOW... thanks for sharing
    vinny

    • @Gknosmodeltrains
      @Gknosmodeltrains  9 років тому +2

      Hey thanks vin, the fade wash will work on styrene but I would spray your base color on, I use the camo kakhi for concrete, if you brush the base on, on styrene it tends to streak. and yes for your wash i would use more white. make a light grayish color.

    Looks so good I gave it a try! It works better than other methods I have tried and looks great so far. Any recommendations for gluing to foam surface? Any problems with warping or not staying down?

  • @retrainrun

    Amazing how to video Geno! your explanation is straight forward and to the point. What do you use to glue it down and have you had any issues with warping? Thanks a lot for sharing. RT

    Hi, my dad and I found your video and thought it would be a great technique to use on a parking lot we're trying to install on our own layout. However, we don't know what brand of foam core to get - we got a 8 x 11 sheet at Office Depot, but it was too thick and the paper backing on the front wouldn't come off cleanly like yours did. What brand of foam core board do you use and where would we be able to find some? Thanks!

  • @modelrailer

    Hey man did you make a video on how you put the foam core board on the track for street running?

  • @wthwing
    @wthwing 9 років тому +1

    Great video, enjoyed and learned from it, but I have a question about how you installed a track down the middle of the city road using the foam....

    • @Gknosmodeltrains
      @Gknosmodeltrains  9 років тому

      thanks! i used walthers street inserts for the track and butted the foam up against the inserts and stained both with a acrylic gray paint and alcohol wash

    That looks great, I think I'm gonna replace my hydrocal roads with that since I never much cared for the look of my hydrocal roads anyway. Just curious, what do you do for the street-running sections of your layout? I would imagine that the foam is too tall to sit in between the rails.

    • @Gknosmodeltrains
