  • Prince gave his fans a lifetime of fresh music, fashion, and entertainment. His passing on April 21, 2016 feels just like yesterday. During our stay in central Minnesota in September 2022, I wanted to pay homage to Prince by visiting Paisley Park (Chanhassen Minnesota). We spent three hours (and about $175/person) on the "Ultimate Experience" tour. Did Paisley Park live up to the hype?

    I would say that Paisley Park isn't for the casual fan that likes a few songs..Paisley Park is more suited to the diehards who knows the backstory to the music, who can also appreciate that they're in his home/studio where he made iconic albums! And lastly, who wants to remember the elevator? Or the controversy? Or to see his personal quarters? It's a museum tour..it's not like going to your family's home that passed away and going through their things..

    • @ClassCBroads
      @ClassCBroads  Рік тому +4

      I understand and appreciate your perspective. Admittedly, I'm not a diehard fan. Still, I went to Paisley Park wanting to celebrate his music, his life, and learn more about him. Paisely Park does indeed do that, and I have listened to his music and thought about him much more since our visit. But in a three-hour tour, the museum also could have taken a few minutes to give a more well-rounded picture. ~Lana

      @@ClassCBroads that sounds like a tour guide issue..the tour guide usually explains in great detail every area on the tour and it's origin..and they should've been able to answer any questions you had..if that's the problem ,I suggest mentioning that on one of Paisley Park's platforms so other visitors won't have that experience..they're usually good at fixing problems the visitors have..I'd gladly answer any questions you may have..the largest room where you can record/ take pictures is where many of his concert footage was filmed such as parts of the Sign o the times concert movie and Graffiti Bridge just to name a few...also the room was used for late night last minute parties he'd have for the locals..I hope they at least told you that part..

      @@babygyrl8612 Our tour guide did cover those aspects, and she was quite knowledgeable. She was a diehard and knew her stuff. My issue is with the scope of the tour itself and advertising it as Prince's "home" and studio when you don't really see where he lived. I wasn't expecting to see where he took a dump, but the second floor seems to have some very cool rooms where Prince lived that would have been nice to see.
      We only had about 20 minutes in the Sound Stage area at the end (and that room really is amazing!). We could not take photos/videos throughout the rest of the tour so I was looking for photos online to try to remember what I did see so that (1) I wouldn't forget and (2) I could write a review. That's actually how I stumbled upon the crime scene photos. I do hope that they loosen up the photo policy because people like me do want to remember ALL aspects of the tour (not just the end), and at least for me, I rely on photos to help me remember.
      Thanks again for your input. I don't want you or anyone to think that the Paisley Park isn't worth visiting. I just want people to better understand the scope of the tour and its limitations. ~Lana

      @@ClassCBroads I agree about the pictures..they should include at least a tour book..when I went, you couldn't take pictures at all..so that's great for new visitors..i'm sorry it wasn't what you expected but keep in mind that Prince was a very private person and that's widely known..Also his idea of home is different from what we consider home.. home to him was the studio and a place he sometimes slept..it was all about the music..he slept a few hours of the day and the rest was in the studio.. it's said that he recorded so much that he could release an album every year for the next 100 yrs..his constant focus on music lead to the downfall of his relationships..home to us is ordinary but nothing was ordinary about Prince..I suggest watching interviews of him and understanding the man he was then PP will make sense to you..

    Having been a Prince fan my whole life, I really want to make it up to this tour. I've toured Graceland many times because I'm as big of a fan of Elvis as I am Prince. All of these things are pricey but I think it's amazing to get a glimpse into the artists world.

    Thanks for review. During the Prince Celebrations during 90s they took us upstairs to see the game room, book room and his office and War room. They also took us down to see the Vault which is near the parking garage (Where the beginning of the Sexy MF video was shot).. The book room had a huge ant farm in it! Game room had a pinball machine and pool table and right around the corner was a Myles Davis painting. I was out there last time for Hit N Run listening party. They let us go in there with phones but told us no pictures, that was while Prince was still alive and he was around there some. Near the Vault was a bunch of guitars and gear.

    I would like Paisley Park to be called just that, NOT Paisley Park MUSEUM. It should have an immersive 360 degree educational facility where one can buy guided presentations on Prince as businessman/promoter/performance rights activist, Prince as Visual Artist/performance designer, Prince as Producer/,recording engineer, Prince as dancer/choreographer, Prince as a person (humour/vegetarianism/environmentalist/philantropist), Prince as Musician/composer. Not just a tacky archive - really a working studio and entertainment college. That's what he wanted - he was an innovator and teacher.

    Great video. We did the tour last week and enjoyed it greatly. Your comment about them not covering his death and some of the more controversial aspects of his life is very apt. The tour guide actually told my teenagers (twice) that Prince never did drugs. When she walked away my 16 year old turned around and said to me “didn't he OD” Still a great tour.

      Thanks for the feedback. As for the food, we received some sodas at the end as part of our tour in the Sound Stage area. I vaguely recall that we could purchase some drinks (maybe some snacks too?) at the NPG Music Club. I don't recall anything about a deli (just that there was a kitchen off the atrium, but there wasn't any food being served there and it was pretty much off limits).

    Just got back from Minneapolis a few days ago; whole reason for going was to fulfill my bucket list trip to see his home and take in what is Prince. It was more than what I thought it was going to be I am happy to say. I did the ultimate tour which since the class c broads did this video has gone up quite a bit! For me it was worth every single penny and I would advise anyone who is a Prince fan to put this on your list of things to do in life. The ladies did a pretty good job of telling one about what they should expect to see so I won't spoil it for anyone who maybe going. I was aware no pics would be allowed on the first leg of the tour and yes they do make you lock your phones up till closer to the end but one gets to see things during the ultimate that you don't see on the other tours and to see things that you won't for now get to see outside of Paisley Park so it was so worth it! I would like to have seen the tunnel that must be near the home, and I understand Prince used to ride his bike through it. Fans have left writings/poem/other trinkets in honor of this man. I did get a chance to go to other areas Prince frequented like First Avenue and The Electric Fetus. I highly recommend you take those in if you are a fan.. it added something to my trip to know I stood or visited and took pics where he once stood. I am was very happy I did this!! I don't thing anyone will regret doing this tour and other places he once was.

    I went on the tour today (3/25/23), it was really nice. I had the lowest selection for time, I believe 90 minutes. We also stayed only on the first level of the facility. I was curious to know if the higher tier packages allowed you to go to the upper levels. I am a big fan of Prince and seeing the studios was really worth the trip. I, too, think there could be more intimate information offered. The tour guide was great and kudos to her for sure for remembering the info and everything but I would have liked to actually see the vault maybe. And a huge thing for me was I wanted to know possibly what happened with the Paisley Park urn that’s been reported to hold his ashes. I saw on the internet that it was removed from the front lobby, supposedly it used to be on display when these tours were initially available. But it’s said that it was moved to a closed room, just would have been nice to be told about it in person. Great experience overall, I think the 90 minute tour is fine though. Sounds like it covered the same things that the 3-hour tour covered. Great video ladies.

    • @ClassCBroads
      @ClassCBroads  Рік тому

      We stayed on the lower level the entire time.
      I read somewhere that PP brought out the urn on 4/21/21 (five year anniversary of Prince's death), but the urn's location is otherwise a mystery (at least to us).
      Glad you thought he 90 minute tour fit your needs. He was such an amazing man....

      We visited in spring of 2017. The urn shaped like Paisley Park set up high in the atrium. They told people on the tour what it was and one person started crying. Sort of sprung on you without any notice. I guess they removed his supposed ashes sometime later, not sure when. May have decided it was too sad for the really devoted Prince fams.

    I love Prince. Been a big fan since about 1994. I feel like a tour of princes house and studio should give insight into his life from his day to day, to his life a singer. I think this tour is so much more focused on the recording portion of his life because it's a money-making effort and not a true "come see how Prince lived. I want all of that but i also want a glimps into his life. If this was just a recording studio then this tour would be more acceptable. I think for $430 for a couple it should be a more inclusive tour.

      "Really. It is there area. I’m glad you can’t take photos!" Um, it is not really 'their' area. It was Prince's and now he is dead. How can you charge almost $400 to 'come see it' and then not take pics or see the advertised 'Home and Studio'. This is not Prince's doing and I am pretty sure he would not falsely advertise. Misleading and exploitative to say the least. Your comment comes across mean. As though they were there illegally or stalking. Makes no sense

    Prince was BETTER than michael jackson in my opinion. He was EVERYTHING to me and I plan on taking my Uncle to visit there possibly next year. My Uncle told me that every year that goes by, he misses him MORE & MORE. We both still can't believe that he's no longer here in the flesh but his spirit is with us FOREVER.....

    Really sad what they are doing to Paisley Park, the members of the Revolution, Cat and others really despise how they are making money out of this, something he fought against thru all his life.
    So sad.

      Other videos I have watched on youtube have alluded to the idea that he always planned that Paisley Park would be turned into a museum, I don't know about this take. Now that he is gone, what other way is there to do this other than a method that generates money to maintain things?

    • @ClassCBroads
      @ClassCBroads  Рік тому +5

      Because Prince did not have a will, it’s hard to say what he really wanted. Regardless, I’m just not convinced that the amount of money we paid was really worth it in terms of what we received in return. Also, I'm guessing that the amount charged way exceeds the amount to simply maintain the property. Ideally, it would be cool to turn the property into a nonprofit that might in turn help new artists....just a thought.

      @@finregan9322 They dont want folks taking pics so that they can maintain an aura of mystery/sell tickets. Oooo what is behind the screen? Only to find out, not that much really that we cannot already see online. Sure, being there is another thing but the whole misleading aspect of it is douchebaggery. Better, yet sad pics are available online from when he died. They are just out to make money. You can tell by the false advertising.

    THere are things inside Paisley Park that families, artists, and families of artists may still be collecting royalties on. TO allow rampant reproduction of any and every thing inside the park would damage the revenue stream. And from what I have seen, certain member of Prince's surviving family would 100% not want to lose revenue due to pictures and videos being posted on youtube or other places on the internet. I went to Prince's house in 1997 and it was exactly the same. No vids no cameras. No big deal.......ur in someone's HOME. Have some common decency and respect.

    • @ClassCBroads
      @ClassCBroads  Рік тому +2

      I was not suggesting "rampant reproduction of anything and everything." Instead, I think letting people take pictures for personal non-commercial use (or for criticism and true commentary) is fair. And besides, fans are going to come regardless. It's Prince, after all!

    • @anubischick
      @anubischick 3 місяці тому +1

      Wow, no need to yell or shame the visitors dude. You are not inside someone's home. You are in a dead mans home where other people have opened it to the public. The paid $400-ish for this and with false advertising their comments are valid and true. How much did you pay when you went in '97. And did they tell you, you would see his studio and his home? I doubt it. Oh yeah, he was alive so you were actually in his space but he is dead now. Do you see the difference? I hope so.
