Shows that Patience can yield great benefits ....both to the Leopard as well as the photographer !! The timing of the "Perfect jump" and kill was great !
Squirrel literally screaming and dropping leaflets saying "GET OUTTA HERE..YOU ARE IN DANGER" and the impalas ignore thinking it's all propaganda...SMH!
Actually impala dint ignore that warning and trying to watch the danger, but leopard was so cunning & out of deer's sight moreover impala dint expect the attack from that hight of tree.
To witness a hunt like that is a true privilege. That would have made my whole safari experience right there! Leopards are the most amazing and adaptable predators. No big cat even comes close. Thanks for sharing this footage. Truly special. Death from above :)
Agreed! They're the smallest of the Panthera species and yet they're ridiculously strong for their size! There's even footage of a leopard hoisting a baby rhino into a tree, check it out!
Ampala: Anyone hear today’s forecast? Squirrel: Yea, it’s gonna be raining cats and .... no, that’s it just cats. Ampala: That squirrel’s nuts!!! Big cat: Hello deer!!
To jump from that height is simply incredible! Mind blowing. I think it probably snapped the gazelles vertebrae with its paw if you look on the slow mo
Stunning ! The video is *not* too long . It builds up tension for the eventual amazing strike. That young impala never knew what hit it.These cats were made for trees. Conserving energy .Sleeping the whole day on an airconditioned branch, while waiting for an unsuspecting grazer to stray near enough to seek some shade. When death will float from the branches like a leaf. Then using all that conserved energy to haul the prey up a tree heavier than the cat himself. This leopard could've never done that with the male impala ,if it did not wanted to impale himself on those horns...
Es un privilegio que aún existan estos animales tan hermosos y que la naturaleza aún gobierna sus vidas.. Hagamos algo mínimo todos los días para conservar nuestro planeta !
What were those (best way i can describe it) radio static kind of noises? There were a lot of them when Leopard got the Impala. Was that the Impala making those noises?
moojidy That was the male impalas warning call or bark. He had run off as he had spotted the leopard up in the tree. He was trying to alert the rest of the impalas but they didn’t listen. The other constant chirping noise in the background was a squirrel constantly trying to warn that he leopard was in the tree.
+Davis Jason Jugroop it was the male Impala sending a warning call to the others that they ignored. We thought they all were going to run at that point.
+Shazal how did the male impala know? is there a moment where the impala saw the leopard in the video? i thin k leopards are the most efficient killers in the big cat family
the squirrel's noises don't seem to be a warning, but the main snort warning(loud snort) was from that adult Impala ram. The girls should have heeded his warning and ran off.
The squirrel could've been in danger itself and it not be a threat to the antelope. They rely on their own visual cues and warning sounds before they take off. Those two did ignore their own species warning and natural selection took place.
@evil Angel awesome anecdote sir. Blame the people who have been shooting at squirrels in your area where you hunt. They recognize people as threats so they sound the alarm. Maybe educate the other hunters to leave the squirrels alone and target practice at the range. When the deer is not around, stop educating the squirrels how good you are with your rifles. Just saying.
One of the Best Video Presentations of a Leopard Kill..... Good Job guys... And superb that you added the Slow Motion part as well. I'm sure a lot of people think that the Leopard just dived down and landed on his face, but like they say, A CAT ALWAYS LANDS ON HIS FEET. Great Job....to who ever filmed this
WOW!! How did the leopard start upside down facing away from the tree but land facing towards the tree??? Simply amazing. I can faintly see in the slo mo that he did a somersault just before landing. Is that what you also saw, video maker??
Pramod Deshpande yes you’re right he did turn in the air. We didn’t notice in real time because it’s so quick but when we checked the footage we did notice how he turned in the air so when he landed he was in the right spot to bring the impala to ground and immediately grab the throat. The other interesting thing was the actual distance from the jump from the tree to the ground. The video doesn’t show how far he actually jumped out from the tree. We went back later in the day and saw where the leopard had landed and it was about four metres away from the tree. So not only the height of the jump but the distance the leopard had jumped outwards while positioning itself midair to effectively grab the impala by the throat when landing shows what an amazing hunter that leopard is.
Shazal My respect for leopards has gone up by a mile after I watched this video. I find them very enigmatic and underrated. With any wild creature there is an element of unpredictability. However with leopards this element is much higher compared to other animals. You almost never know what they are planning to do next. I watched the jump part of your video again and again and also noticed that the timing of the somersault is super late in the jump. If he missed it by a blink he would have landed on his back or ass. But he did it like nobody’s business and made it look ridiculously easy and routine. And I am almost wondering if there is a reason for a late somersault - I find it very unique. You guys are incredibly lucky to have watched this. And yes he did land far from the tree. This is precision stuff. I think more research needs to happen on leopard jumps. This is mind boggling stuff. Thanks for the video🙏👍👍
Hey Shazal, do you have an email address at which we could contact you regarding this video? We would be interested to discuss a license to use this video if this is generally possible? (i.e. via email) 🙂 Cheers, Felix
Not to take one iota away from the unbelievable stealthy leopard, but that impala may have had either a stroke or heart attack as a contributing factor to its demise. Leopards and impalas = friends forever. Thank you Norman Carr Safari and guide for the serendipitous event that was captured on video.
3.36 incredible precision and bang on target !! The perfect timing and skillful hunter .instinctively it knew the " now or never time " Quick powerful bite and kill.👍👍
@3:12 The male Gazelle left the Chat group....lol...but for real though Leopards are lightning fast. Watching the slow-mo is when you appreciate it more. imagine jumping from a tree to land first and then reflexes to snatch the impala's neck...
Not only patient but a smart one also... He/She targeted the impala without horns so that he/she won't get injured when it jumped on it from such a height... Nice video man.....
i have grown up watching wildlife documentaries and seen a thousand predator prey hunt videos but this is by the far the most astonishing and amazing thing ever. Considering that the impala was 4 ft tall, that branch where the leopard jumps from has got to be atleast 30 feet tall. A jump from that height could severely bruise, fracture or kill us. The way it dives its head upside down but yet lands on its feet is amazing use of the tail for balance and dynamics. Damn i can't believe this beautiful agile animal will be extinct from earth in the next 30 years.
the leopard is the least likely of the big cats to go extinct. it has a wide distribution and is living successful alongside humans in cities in africa and india and appears very adaptable to humans in these chaotic urban situations, preying on the plethora of pigs, dogs, chickens, cats, the occasional child and other vermin. once civilisational collapse really gains momentum i see even greater opportunities for this amazing predator.
Leopards are built for the trees, while jaguars are built for the water. Other than an adult black caiman, adult alligator, or any of the various crocodiles found in South America, no predator in the jaguar's habitat can stand up to it one on one. In terms of leopards, they're pretty much underdogs that are not to be messed with. While they would be killed by even lone hyenas in a full on fight, they will definitely put up a good fight.

I just loved how the second impala took off and escaped in jet speed even before the leopard was half way through its downward jump from the tree.
saw that
He saw t shade of something coming down

I would add jags with leopards top cats
It's an ambush not a hunt.

The older one recognized the warning. Imagine all the warnings we've failed to recognize in our own life.
That leopard 🐆 is eligible for gold medal 🥇 in olympics 😆😆..nice shot... thanks for sharing the video...
Best comments so far ,please how can I see you in person, you really made my day
Caracal is the best

😂 hilarious! It’s’Impala’ though.
Must be incredible to see this in person.
One of the few ways a leopard can catch an impala, too. They will easily out run a leopard. Smart cat.
Stealth beat speed sometimes I guess.
Leopards are amazing hunters and can sneak to within a few feet sometimes. Theres one such vid online. They use the natural cover in the environment.
They rely on stealth..
this jump was perfectly calculated by this leopard ,, he knows his capacity
To jump from that height is simply incredible! Mind blowing. I think it probably snapped the gazelles vertebrae with its paw if you look on the slow mo
I think he ran down the tree partway before leaping...
No, it didn't. If you look closely it's legs were still moving as the cat asphyxiated it.

amazing that the leopard escapes injury after such a fall...that was about 25-30 ft high ...wow

Almost all tree climbing cats can sustain that much drop
Never heard of cats landing on their feet? I think the impala broke her fall.
Broke the impala's back.
Yeah dude so crazy that their bodies are just designed to withstand drops like that
