  • This is the review of the Walnut Hollow Creative Versa Tool, A solid point variable temprature pyrography machine from Walnut hollow of america.
    This is an American machine so I have used a transformer rated for a suitable wattage and voltage to convert the UK mains to american levels.
    The machine comes with a selection of bits and a good quality storage box, with a whole array of different possibilities.
    The video contains some new editing techniques I am trying out so please leave a comment and tell me how the picture in picture went.

    I am buying this Kit, Being New to wood burning I have to try it on a few Wooden Tomahawk handles, to create some designs on them, I see good reviews on this Versa tool kit etc, thanks for sharing your Review.

    Thank you for explaining some advantages and disadvantages of solid point v. The wire type machines -- I hope to learn more about the wire type (including hearing the name enough that I remember what they are actually called) on another of your videos. I do plan to use the first one I buy for work on leather, so knowing about the issue of gunk in up the tips is great to be able to plan for -- it is always good to know what to keep in mind when choosing a tool for the work you plan to do.

      Steve Anderson No worries at all. I am slowly developing more videos as time goes on, so any topics people want covered, or enjoy hearing about is great feedback for me. At the moment work is a bit to hectic, 70 hours a week, ;) but when I have some more free time videos will come along, hopefully with some more info.

    I have a Walnut Hollow creative textile tool. It looks similar to that but it only has 16.5 watt and it reaches only to 750 degrees. I don’t know to use it? I got it as a gift.

      hey RedTail, actuall it's only a few watts and normal voltage so a normal extension cord is fine,

    Can you make holes in teracota flower pot

    • @mystikarain
      @mystikarain 5 років тому

      You need a dremel tool for drilling and a carbon steel diamond bit and spray cool water frequently on the pot near the bit as you are drilling.

    I have this exact set except mine doesnt have a setting to change the temperature, just an ON/OFF button. I must have an older version...
    I was wondering, you can use the SOLDERING bit for woodburning/art but what about the other way around? Can I use any of the pointed tips for SOLDERING? (•¿•) ?
    I lost my solder bit.. and they dont sell replacements (I've been on their website).. I need to solder something but I cant find any replacement bits..
    If i can just use any of the woodburning pointed tips it came with..that would be great! Otherwise I have to buy an entirely new kit. :-(

      +fuzzymaiden1 Hey Fuzzy, they do a set without the temperature change bit
      yes you can solder with the soldering but, I wouldn't recommend the wood burning bit for soldering, but you can get replacement tips from other companies but you need to be careful to get the same thread, best to go to your nearest big crafty store and speak to them.
      or indeed if you want to solder just buy a soldering iron as these are cheaper than pyrography machines.

    I have a problem with this tool not really burning that well too, I have watched speed videos of people wood burning with this and it seems to flow so easy, I have to grind mine for it to burn anything. I suspect maybe my transformer is too weak? It says it will work with devices up to 120V, and it's 100W. I know nothing about this stuff it's all gibberish to me, but it seems like it should work fine.. I'm so frustrated I don't even know

      Hi Greta sorry but you're making a mistake. Volts and Watts are different things. The Converter you're using is probably a very low wattage. To give you an example every appliance in a kitchen in the UK is 220volts, but the toaster and kettle are 2000-4000 watts and the mixer is about 60watts. You need a suitable converter and to put the setting to the right temperature.

    • @bubbs3501
      @bubbs3501 8 років тому

      TheLearningDroid mine says 230V for input and 110V for output... I really don't know it's really confusing

      TheLearningDroid all I know is that if I try to use the tool with a regular adapter, it turns red on the smallest settings.. so that's not an option either 😅

    • @TheLearningDroid
      @TheLearningDroid  8 років тому

      Hey Greta :) you need an adaptor that can handle the right wattage sounds like yours is too weak. if you have the american tool and are in the UK here is my recommendation.
      Mercury Ac-Ac converter model 651.001 UK, thats the converter I use, it's 45 Watt approx which will run the 30Watt machine safely.
      You can get it off amazon

      ah I can't believe I'm only seeing this now! thank you I'll try to find this exact same one and hopefully it will work :)

    For some reason I have to press really hard for this tool to even burn anything I just don't understand

    • @TheLearningDroid
      @TheLearningDroid  8 років тому +1

      +Amy Rigsby hi Amy, a few things that might be the issue.
      Firstly as this is a solid point machine it can take anywhere from 50 seconds to 3 minutes to reach temperature depending on the setting and solid bit being used. when it's at temperature you should be feeling the heat come off the bit with your hand more than an inch away.
      Second your bits might not be screwed in fully, make sure you fit a bit in fully or it takes longer to reach temperature and may never reach full temp.
      Third a silly one make sure you turn the adjustable temperature nob up high enough.
      Finally your machine may be faulty and you might need to have it looked at.

    So you don't recommend it?

    • @TheLearningDroid
      @TheLearningDroid  9 років тому

      Stuart Loria Quite the opposite, I think it's a good tool :D for both price and versatility. But like all tools of this design it has its limits.

      Thanks for the video, it is really useful, I got mine now, complete with a device to consume the smoke with a carbon filter I think, what do you think of those

    • @TheLearningDroid
      @TheLearningDroid  9 років тому

      Stuart Loria I don't have a huge amount of experience with them, and currently can't afford to buy one :(
