Yeah, and the one without wheels, since it would be hard to fit a team of paramedics in that room. P.S.: They need a hamster mascot and call him Richard.
RE: miserable times equalling good TV, James in Vietnam standing in the rain with a colander on his head is still the funniest bit from the entire series
If it's the same one; that's the bag he bought the in S1 of Top Gear and has kept since. He wrote about it the other day in The Times' obituary/send off for the trio.
Welcome to the human condition. You're next, mate. Next stage: teenagers wishing that YOU weren't so old and out of touch. Then the sudden onset of middle-age spread and fading vision. Then hearing-loss, arthritis and shortness of breath. Then dementia. Then loneliness, bewilderment and death. No, it's not fair. Make the most of what you've got before that miserable bastard Time snatches it all away from you.
The grand tour shows have started to become forgettable lately. Clarkson and Wilman have done it all and are ready to hang it up. Im sure they have thought about Mexico as well.
@@EleanorPeterson To be fair, not everyone ages like that. My grandmother is 92 and hasn't got dementia, isn't lonely or bewildered. Her mind is as sharp as a knife and she's constantly out with family and friends. She's got hearing loss of course and has arthritis (although she's had arthritis for most of her life so not really related to aging), and walks with a stick now but was walking unaided right into her late 80s. We can't control everything as we age but we can control some of it by looking after ourselves, both mentally and physically.
In the UK, taik show guests are plied with champagne and liquor before their "spot" in front of the microphone or camera - in order to loosen their tongues and to encourage the flow of conversation.
Top Gear and The Grand Tour are my favorite shows of all time. James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson are my favorite motorists and possibly even TV hosts of all time.
Literally, any automotive show that has James, Richard or Jeremy is winning. They are absolute legends and have inspired so many of us car enthusiasts throughout the years.
James May has always been my favorite presenter on Top Gear (and The Grand Tour), and I am happy to see him with the Donuts. He is a wonderful ambassador for Great Britain.
I'm really surprised this vid has so few views. This interview was amazing, gave me all the nostalgia mixed with new goodies and overall just great content.
You three were fantastic in this interview/podcast and James made it by far the best big three podcast you have produced. The way that man talks carries any and every conversation in such an eloquent and sophisticated manner
I'm from Orange County, California. Santa ana. Been following top gear / grand tour for many years. Seeing james may here fills me with joy. A British national treasure 😅
I remember when I discovered Top Gear in 2011, so many seasons to watch. I loved that moment in life. Almost picked up an accent from watching them all back to back to back.
You just have to admire how down to earth James actually is. Like even when someone says something that would make most uncomfortable, he finds a way to respond with humility and in a calm, polite manner. Often leading the conversation down interesting avenues along the way !
From specials with Leno, to super cars, this is am experience I'm most jealous of. Drinking gin with James is probably the highest thing on my bucket list 😂
Top gear got me into cars. Grand tour kept it alive. Donut keeps me going. To have these two power houses together when, for years, I have longed for their team up and in front of me on my screen just shows how tight knit the car community really is and just brings the cream of the crop to the top. Excellent job on this guys I couldn’t have asked for a better subject or guest, please please please bring May back or bring on Hammond! I could see why you wouldn’t necessarily want Clarkson but it would be great entertainment regardless. Thank you donut. From a long long time fan.
Now is the time for us to soak in the rest of the BIG THREE, James can talk Gin and backpacks and anything he likes and still give us what we want, James has withered away before us since the turn of the century talking shop and driving, anything he wants should go!
A friend bought an older mini back in the 60’s. No heater, no radio, one door mirror (optional extra, I recall), sliding windows, cord pull door latches as there were no door trim panels, no seat belts but a smile-a-minute fun factor that was hard to match. He later built a road-going rally spec. version that was a true pocket rocket. He once did a 360 degree spin on a country lane, just for fun. Scared me to death!😅
James is absolutely right about those stupid pillars. I came up to an intersection looking both ways, next thing, there’s a work truck in front of me i’m slamming on the brakes on a gravel road with a heavy water tank on the back, so i’m not stopping, he’s going way too fast, he’s not stopping. We miss by like 3 inches. Same story: you were in my blind spot, which i 100% believe. It’s why every time i get in my little car, i appreciate it just a little bit more every time. I absolutely love it
My favorite snippet of a rant Jeremy went on during a screening party of GT was that he summed up James as being the only one of the three of them that genuinely had no idea what the show was about. In retrospect it makes so much sense.
Dr May really is one of the most relatable and likable humans. I know, I'm fangirling. But it's one of those people who you think you would just want to sit down and have a pint with, shoot the shit and bore to tears, until the point where he goes "well, yes" then stands up and walks away because you've bored him.
James is 100% on the money about the future of cars and reviews. And its so refreshing to hear that when he was a kid all cars needed to do was power themselves, because it was true, things like aircon was a nice special feature. It will be interesting to see the future of car shows.
About the "being miserable makes good episodes" At least for me it is not the suffering of you guys, but the adventure you show and being miserable makes it so much more believable, tangable and emotional to watch. It's between enjoying the adventure without the suffering and suffer with you. Adventures are never without being miserable. So seeing you suffer makes your adventures real and relatable. I fucking love James May. I enjoy Richard and Jeremy, but I'll always watch anything with James May in it. He's the man.
It's amazing how Richard, James, and Jeremy are largely doing their own thing, but each of them is received as the legends they are.
Yes, they definitely are.
