Over the last 20 years scientists have begun to delve into the unusual phenomenon of plant fenestration / windows. They are discovering that the windows may function more as light limiters , than light enhancers. Some members of the Aizoaceae have been shown to have simultaneous high light and shade tolerance adaptations within individual leaves. The above ground portion of the leaf exhibits high irradiance, while the below ground structures act to conserve light, all of which effects leaf temperature and ability to photosynthesize. No other plants are known to have this type of multi adaptations. ~ In my limited experience growing this species I have found it to be relatively tolerant of a broader range of cultural conditions than many plants of the Namibian desert region. I have subjected it to dry, high 90’s f. in full sun and also to nights in the upper 30’s f. while being in wet , if very well drained, substrate. It has grown, flowered and had a healthy appearance under both situations.
Baby Toes & Rabbit's Foot Fern are two common plant names I've never understood! If I had my way they'd be Green Slug Plant and Creepy Ass Tarantula Fern 😏
This is such a funky little plant, I have not tried growing this one as of yet, I would like to try my luck on growing this if I can ever find one. Thanks so much Summer, you are the bright spot in all of our days. Sending love and hugs and I will see you tomorrow.
very cute plants, I've been having pretty good luck growing mesembs from seeds in New England and this one is actually a pretty fast grower compared to lithops and other mesembs! (growing under cheap grow lights)
This is an old comment, but if you or someone else happens to see this, what sort of issues have you faced precisely speaking? I’m interested to hear your experiences.
So cute. I just ordered this little guy. I just couldn't resist its unique alien weirdo leaves 😁 Thanks for sharing this video with us. Its always so helpful to watch your channel. You make everything so easy peasy to understand and get right to the point. I think your one of the very few channels I watch on a regular basis💗
Summer, this video reminded me of one from the past, #32. The gentleman and you touch and rub the leaves... I have always been told, scolded and yelled at for touching the leaves of a plant. Apparently, I was deemed to be in the process of plant murder? Is there a reason for the way you touch the leaves of a plant, and if I do, is anything but my pride, nerves, and hearing being affected? Thanks.
I have both and I consider my lithops WAY easier than my baby toes. Lithops, leave it the hell alone, water every few months. But baby toes will literally be shriveled up begging for water so you give them some and then they explode. 🧍🏻
Realy? You life in New York and the amount of corona-cases increased with 38% in one day today to a total of 20.875 which is more than South Korea ore Italie but plants save us?
As a First Responder, I would definitely advise you to watch some plant videos and maybe take an online class instead of thinking you're an Infectious Disease Specialist behind your keyboard.
@@bildahome The only thing it tells me is that she like the rest of us are trying to cope with life the best way that we can. Also she is not the only one still uploading plant videos. What we don't need is people like you spewing hate and negativity. If you don't like plant videos than don't watch them. For me and many others it is something joyful to watch while we are forced to stay in our homes. Be well

Love these. I’ve had them for years and have never fertilized them. The flowers are very cute
Great video. I have a perfect room for Baby Toes. I can’t wait to get a plant. So cute🧡
I think is next on my plant list!
I have this plant despite not liking the common name but it’s such a cute plant. Feet freak me out in general so I just look past the name 😝.
One of my favourites 🌿😊
Cool succulent
I'm sure this one's a fan favorite.
One of my babies 😊
i like this plant
I like this one

Water more when flowering or same year round?
Would you say that mimicry plants are treated the same way as baby toes? They both are shrivelling a bit for me even though. Should I water?

I've been mugged off. mine was sold as a lithop sp.
You have a very good choice and collection of succulents
Please help! 🙏Mine are breaking off half way up. Am I overwatering? It's in full sun and I live in South Africa, so it's lovely and hot.
I know this is old but for anyone else reading this, yes, when they start splitting it's because they're getting too much water.
Summer. Phylla means group. Folia means leaves/foliage.
You might be confusing it with phyla. Phylla means leaves. Both words originate from greek.
Love you darling and god bless you ❤️❤️💐💐💐🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱💓💓💓💓💓💓❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰
unfortunately I don't have enough sun for this plant. I wish I did.
Your fingertips match your babytoes!
My trypophobia is acting up...
Mine too! 🥵

where does she say plants save us? I listened twice and didn't hear it.
what are you trying to say
rose well Rose , obviously she continues no mater what with her 365-plant-a-day... That tells it all
