- Fresh reports emerged of clashes between security officials of Assam and Meghalaya along the inter-state border.
The region has been tense since Tuesday and things intensified on Wednesday when Meghalaya residents allegedly tried to ‘forcefully’ cross into Assam near the Umlapher area of Karbi Anglong district. After this, police officials from Karbi Anglong pushed the mob from Meghalaya back, which led to a face-off between security personnel of both states. Police officials held talks with the locals and urged them to maintain peace along the border and calm down the situation.
On Tuesday, Assam police had vacated a check post located in Umlapher after a clash broke out between locals from both sides. According to reports, while two youths received grievous injuries, one escaped unhurt after they were reportedly assaulted by Assam Police personnel while they were on their way home from Mawlasnai. Following the incident, angry residents took to the streets to register their protest.
The situation remains tense but under control for now.
Assam’s border issues have remained in news for the past two months, especially its border with Mizoram. On July 26, 2021, six Assam Police personnel were killed in clashes with Mizoram Police. During this period, there have also been clashes on the Meghalaya and Nagaland borders.

Wtf I'm pretty sure you guys are kids who are brainwashed by your respected states and people. see I'm an adult Idk how much northeastern history you guys know but letme tell you one thing the entire northeast including parts of Myanmar and Bangladesh were part of the axom(original Assam) before distributing the land to various tribes till today some communities also want their own states. Assam isn't even 50% the size of what it was 80yrs ago. So cut some slack don't fall for propaganda towards a certain state just because your media show you that way do your own research as well. Assam is a poor state that suffers from floods and cultural identity risk every year. Assam never reciprocates the hatred from lower northeastern states because we believe in unity instead of dividing the already diversed people of northeast. The next time you talk to an Assamese person be polite because you guys are also representing your own state. 😊

Because they(assam police) have proved that they cannot be trusted on the other state borders. Disputes arise and they make an agreement with the opposing forces to maintain status quo or withdraw from the border, assam police do exactly the opposite. When opposing sides started responding in equal, well, assam have bigger and stronger media at least. Meghalaya and Karbi Anglong should settle the border issue peacefully. We should not encroach each other's land. If somebody says umlapher is a Khasi word and so it's belong to Meghalaya. Then somebody will counter that Ri-bhoi district of Meghalaya should be merged with West Karbi Anglong because in Khasi Ri means Land /region/ habitation and bhoi implies to Karbi tribes. So Ri-bhoi means land of Karbi tribes. Will Khasi people agree to that. So let's live peacefully..

Just because Assam and Mizo had border clashes, Meghalaya came along karbi border with a view to encroach Assam land so that they can get a piece of land but they didn't realise it's karbi Anglong, it's not the same people with which the mizo police fought, if you have guts come again in Assam border through Karbi Anglong border they taught you once they will teach you again.
Assam is also north eastern state so behave properly otherwise. All neighboring state if they fade up they will attack all together who will suffer the innocent people's.

Even the area where this quarrel had taken place belonged to the khasi people. Note, hundreds of villages inside assam bears the khasi name. Assam had stolen hundreds of khasi land in ribhoi district,jaintia hills district and west khasi hills district of now Meghalaya. Since then, the assam government has been pushing thousands of immigrants from Nepal into those villages and are still encroaching into new villages.
