So you used decals because being lazy. In the end you spend so much more time to hide the decals, than just painting Hinomaru in the first place. Yup I know that, done that… Nevertheless great build. :-)
The black coat is for silver metal to shine because metal paint reflects much better when paint over black surfaces. But you right the effect of reflecting only occurs very subtle when i change the viewings angles haha

Curious which paint brand/colour mix you used for the underside colour coat?
Im using light gray from mr color. Its lacquer base and i thin with lacquer thinner
