  • Barry is back at it with a video showing you how to properly bypass your on board computer or OBC on your Club Car Precedent golf cart. Some aftermarket battery chargers do not require the use of the On-Board Computer so this video should be helpful in those cases.
    An OBC is a computer that Club Car decided to put on the cart instead of the charger like other cart manufacturers. Club Car has a charger that consist of a simple transformer and rectifier assembly with no controls for charging inside the external charger. It is very simple to bypass using this how to video. Some of the DPI aftermarket chargers we sell do require an OBC and others do not. 15amp charger will utilize on board charger while our 17 amp models do not require it. If you are in the market for a battery charger and don't want to worry about replacing your OBC down the road you might benefit from bypassing it and purchasing the 17 amp model. Please subscribe to our channel for other how to videos and be sure to visit our website for all you golf cart parts and accessory needs.

    Thanks Barry. This video saved the day on my 16 year old Club Car Carryall VI. The OBC would not allow my Club Car EIRC charger to connect, but after this simple modification, the EIRC charged my new Trojan T-875 batteries without issue.

    Barry, Thank you for your great videos, I have 2006 CC 48volt, I put new batteries in it, runs good but will not take a charge, I have been charging each battery, Is there a way to test the OBC? or Charger? or plug? to determine which the problem? Do you recommend bypassing the OBC and going with a smart charger or replacing the OBC? after determining where my problem is. Thank you.

    How long do you typically charge a 48v carts for now that the OBC is gone? I have a power drive 2 charger and a
    2011 club car precedent 48v. You helped me resolve my issue. I just made a jumper from the grey wire that normally goes to the OBC from the charger receptical. I left the fuse in path and jumped the new wire assembly to number 6 neg. My power drive 2 charger kept short cycling and dumping the charge after 5 or 6 minutes. I thought it was the charger. So, I replaced the rectifier, relay and fuse in the charger. The charger doesn't dump a charge anymore and runs around 8-9 amps.

    So, I'm a bit confused by this. Every other person says beyond just moving the black wire to negative terminal on #6, that there are addition steps with blue and yellow cables, etc. Even OBC bypass kits come with multiple cables. What is the difference from your method vs the other methods?

    • @galinpotter1690
      @galinpotter1690 Рік тому

      All you have to do is go to the back of the charger port and take the black and grey/blue and go straight to main negative on cart that way charger port goes straight to batteries and not obc only downside is if you don't have a new digital charger. If you have the old school heavy sob charger than you have to either put it on a timer or make sure you unplug it because it won't shut off and could do serious damage. The new chargers are a.fifth the weight of the old ones and they have a obc built into it so doing this isn't really a.issue

    The wiring for a 2003 Club Car Pathway is different. The black wires going to the OBC, controller, and front are all common to a single post, along with a smaller gauge wire (pink and black). Any insight on how to handle this model?

    • @PaPaBobUTube
      @PaPaBobUTube 4 роки тому

      I have the same model and about to perform the bypass. But, the diagram I have shows that both the black and the Grey wires from the back of charging plug need to be removed from the back the OBC and extended with a round terminal added and connected to the last Battery in series negative terminal. One will unplug but the other that has a fuse inline has to be cut. The one with plug is a smaller wire while the one with the inline fuse is a 12 ga wire. A little splice is needed.
      Before I do this I will be checking with someone because Barry here only talks about one of those wires being changed out.

The batteries are only a year old and charge to 51 volts and discharge to 47.8 going up the hills so I don't think it's a battery issue. All battery cables are new. Could you recommend what the problem might be? Maybe the controller or something? It runs absolutely fine on flat surfaces, just struggling up hills. Thanks

      Unfortunately you have a battery issue. The batteries should never drop below 48 volts. Then they are being put under a load, it seems that they are not holding up.

    I have a 2014 precedent and OBC is not where u say it is on the 2011 ur working on. where is it on a 2014. This is an excel not IQ. It charges for 4 hours n shuts off.I check voltage on batterys and its right at 48volt but when you take off it drops below 48 volt and orange light comes on. batterys are original from 2014 when cart was bought. Ive check the voltage while it is charging an it has shown over 60 volts while its charging.

      Sounds like you have a bad battery. Your 2014, does it have a PD Charger? Or ERIC?

      I was told by someone that the charger would not turn itself off with an OBC bypass, but my charger did turn itself off when the batteries were charged. However it is almost like it charges at full amperage the whole time.....the needle never drops below full blast.

    I have a 2008 CC - 48V - 4battery setup. The cart will not take a charge nor run. Stock Cart and unmodified. From what I can read the OBC is likely bad. I did the simple bypass in the video above.....plugged charger back in and nothing happened. Still will not kick the OEM charger on and charge the batteries. I took the charger to a friends house and plugged it into his CC...works fine. Any thoughts?

    • @itsfrito1
      @itsfrito1 7 років тому +2

      Brannon Helms if you cart is completely dead the Charger will not come on as it does not know it is plugged into anything the minimum voltage for the obc to come on is 38 volts I believe if you have the 4 12 volt batteries you can individually charge each one then charge your cart

    • @johnworkman5121
      @johnworkman5121 6 років тому

      Or you can take another 48 volt cart pull it beside the one that needs charged and with jumper cables connect both battery pack together main + to main + and main - to main - the charger will now see the voltage of the charged cart and come on after the charger starts carefully disconnected the jumper cables

      Put to tow, get a charger with 40 amp startup and charge 2 batteries at a time on 12v setting for about 45 min. So 45min for2, 45 min for 2, 45 min for 2. Then charger will find them.
