Great content Steve. One question can penetration of the Zip with all those staples cause any long term water infiltration issues? I guess technically the water should go down and out. Thanks
Using a very similar setup with nearly 9000 board feet of western red cedar vertical refinished shiplap from montana timber In 2 withs 6" and 8" and 2 colors (colors are close but slightly different). rather than using the obdyke strips underneath the horizontal wood furring strips I am using hydrogap house wrap so that any water can drain behind the furring strips. would you have an recommendation of a call out to follow to maintain a "random look" on both colors and widths? for example- no more than 2 8" boards next each other and no more than 3 of the same color.
Hey Steve always learning a lot from you! One question, if using vertical siding with Sturdi-Batten, the siding is getting nailed directly into the Zip sheathing? I’ve always assumed furring strips were used not only to create the air gap but to also have something to nail into for holding strength. Is nailing siding directly into the sheathing not an issue for both holding power and water penetration? I’m sure you’ve looked at this but was curious if maybe I’m missing a detail?
Am i understanding this correctly??? Your black Uzb Wrap has a 365 day exposure rating.....yet your vertical siding is going to have 3/16" gaps that will still allow UV rays to hit the bkack wrap?
I’m way too old to think about open siding. Repainting will be a nightmare. The spiders living in the gaps will have to be poisoned. The leaves and dirt entering the gap will hold moisture and be impossible to remove. Arrrrgggg! 🙉 🙈
Love this detail!
Any potential issues resulting from swiss cheesing the zip with staples and siding nails?

No pressure pushing it in - will fall to gravity

We are screwing/countersinking/plugging the siding
