Sorry Jack made me facepalm because that guy sounds so dumb it's hilarious; The Rhyme made me cry because it rings so true; Butterflies made me laugh with joy as I imagined the situation; Untitled made me feel energetic, rebellious, and free; Strangers made me think of a wonderful old friend I once had. Scratch21, you're amazing. Don't stop doing what you're doing.

Sorry Jack, The Rhyme, and Strangers mean so much to me. My friend Brianna loves Scratch21 like I do and we always used to jam out to Sorry Jack together cause we thought it was fun. We were going to sing The Rhyme for a talent show and practiced singing it all the time. Now, she moved away from me and Strangers now reminds me of her because we don't even talk and it feels like we split apart in a way, yet I hope to see her really soon. I realized how rude I was to her sometimes, and I would do anything to apologize. All of these songs make me so upset because I miss her too much and I really just want to go back to normal, but that probably won't happen...

Professional Fangirl 217 when i was about 5 or 6 I had a friend. we became best friends although he was like 4 to 5 years older than me. then when i was seven I had to move away. He's at one side of the world and I'm at the others
we haven't had contact since then and now I feel like The Rhyme "I just wanna go home" and like Strangers although I'm probably just lost in his memory now

Dang, several years later, realising that the story is more complicated than just "Boy loves girl."
Sorry Jack - Jack tries to get into a relationship with a girl. Most likely because he's been conditioned by his parents to think he's supposed to do it. He's probably not sexually attracted to them at all.
The Rhyme - Jack experiences some discrimination because of his status.
Butterflies - Jack is in a homosexual relationship. He loves it so very much, but he's worried about the social consequences.
Untitled - Jack's parents don't understand his sexual attraction, and assume that he's broken, because that's what they were taught to think.
Strangers - Jack's mother realises how her own social conditioning has affected her relationship with her son. She used to be such a carefree person when she was younger. The line 'Young and reckless. What did we do?' refers to how she used to do the same stuff he did.

i think strangers and sorry jack have a bit of story to it because in sorry jack he wants the perfect girl but the girls he finds want to have sex and leave him for a differnt guy and jack is upset about it! and in the end of the song you hear " wait! don't go! Just give me this chance! Please stay! I guess your happy without me..." that line means the last girl he had was leaving him and he felt like all was lost!
In strangers the girl that stayed with him the most still has feelings for him and he still has feelings for her but being so far away they are feeling if they meet up it would be like meeting a stranger!

Everyone keeps saying Untitled is about a breakup, but that doesn't exactly fit
    I'm not confused or broken.
Please don't make me think I am.
Nothing's changed, I'm still the same.
    We both think different.
But I'm not you and I'm happy being me.
It sounds more like a kid who's gay coming out to his parents and them not accepting him.

"You're reciting from old pages" - parents following the Bible
"so much for unconditional/what happened to ... no matter what" - about how parents often say they'll love their kids unconditionally but then they stop when they come out as gay
The song is extremely touching/depressing and I think the people who think it's about a breakup aren't getting the full feeling.

You guys are so freakin' talented, you should write more. This sort of music is the kind I'd buy on iTunes and listen to for hours on end on repeat.
Okay, after posting this, I saw that a ton of people were arguing about Untitled being a song about parents not understanding when you come out. So, I went ahead and tried to decipher the lines of the song under that connotation. This is what I came up with:
"Feels like the world is watching" - getting attention for being gay
"Dismissed like I'm now worth nothing" - being ignored for the same
"Didn't turn out how you wanted/But my life is not your puppet" - being gay when parents didn't want it but they can't control me
"You're reciting from old pages" - parents reciting the Bible
"Shouldn't matter what someone else says" - letting other people influence what they think
"What happened to the part you taught/Called 'no matter what'?" - when parents say that they'll always love me, and then I come out and that all goes away
"I'm not confused or broken" - I'm not confused about my sexuality
"Please don't make me think I am" - Don't make me think I'm confused about my sexuality
"Nothing's changed, I'm still the same" - I'm the same person I was before I came out
"We both think different, but I'm not you, I'm happy being me" - Stop trying to control me, I'm not you
"Well, so much for unconditional" - Again, love no matter what and then once I came out and then I came out and it changed everything
"This catharsis is fucking painful" - now I'm having to recover from all the shit you told me
"What I expect is next to nothing/I just want some understanding" - all I expect is that you understand that this is who I am
"I'm not ashamed of holding the hand/Of the one who takes me for what I am" - I'm not afraid to hold the hand of the one I love
"Scattered lies and your dagger eyes/Won't change what's inside" - they can't change who I am inside
    [Chorus]
    "So long father, farewell mother
Send my love to all my brothers
    I'm leaving tonight, don't worry
You can find my ghost where you left me" - I'm leaving the path that you travel and am making my own way, with the one that I love. This is my final act in saying 'You can't control me'

I think there's a story to the sound track, Sorry Jack is about a guy who can't get a girlfriend, it's in the pov of someone at school. The rhyme is Jack being bullied and him running away, Butterflies is about Jack meeting the right girl, maybe before Sorry Jack and The rhyme happen. Untitled is about the break up of Jack and the girl. Strangers is about Jack and the girl missing each other this must lead to Sorry Jack and The rhyme. Reply if you agree or disagree.

I'm sorry if you disagree with this,
I think that sorry jack is jack trying to get a girl but he keep missing the signs and because he has no girlfriend (the rhyme) people are bullying/teasing him, then in butterflies he finds a guy he loves instead of a woman. He tries to tell his parents ,in untitled , that he's gay but they don't accept him for who he is.
Then the guy leaves in strangers.
I know it doesn't explain the female voice but that's what I thought.

Listen To My Stories I personally view strangers as his mother and him regretting that he left/was kicked out. They still love one another, but they both think that things are beyond repair.
Conversely, it's possible that Sorry Jack and Strangers is one story, while the rest are a second, more tragic story.

Sry to reply in this old cmment but in strangers its not jacks gf since in strangers in ellie monties part the first line says
"Find me im waiting right here where you left me...-"
BUT jack didnt left his gf, His gf left jack.
So its more like a mother and son situation,
Since in a song I think its untitled it said "what happend to the part you told no matter what" sort of thing so basically jack left his mom for not understanding his situation.
Well this is only my opinion, go believe yours. Have a nice day.

  • @brithebi7342
    @brithebi7342 7 років тому +4

I've seen comments about this album being like a story, and I agree. So I decided to put my own little story theory thing in here.
Sorry, Jack- This is where the story starts, about named Jack who likes this girl. However, he doesn't realize she likes him back, and when he does it's too late and he lets her go.
The Rhyme- People start bullying and teasing Jack due to the fact that he's homosexual (that'll play a part farther in the story), which drives him to the point of suicide.
Butterflies- He falls in love with a guy.
Untitled- He comes out to his parents, and they don't accept him, forcing him to break up with the guy he had fallen in love with.
Strangers- The girl from Sorry, Jack returns, with the realization that she still LIKES Jack. Jack realizes he still loves her too, but neither of them are aware of each others' feelings or even know how to tell each other, and Jack's definitely conflicted due to the fact that he's still in love with the boy from Untitled and Butterflies.
I thought of "Jack" being bisexual because half of the people in the comments here say that he's coming out of as gay, but that doesn't explain the female in Strangers, and it doesn't show any sign of him BEGINNING to like boys in Sorry, Jack or him just being DONE with girls in general. This is just what I think, so if you don't agree... oh well.

I never really understood why I felt so strongly about this album other than low-key loving pop-punk until I started reading comments and people sharing their experiences.
I never put thoughts together, but deep down I knew why I felt so connected. I think I just didn't want to accept that connection.
I never thought I was outside of the social hetero-normative typical, but I subconsciously felt that way since I was in grade school. At that stage of life, one seeks nothing more than social acceptance and a sense of belonging, and I believe that I was content with not being appealing, attractive, or pleasant; hardly made friends and actually inflicted a lot of self-mental-harm in my desperate want for understanding in my long journey of introspection.
Coming to terms with myself and my own identity has been a journey I fight my way through, and it only felt more isolated in my high school years, only having long-distance relationships in the era of golden-age-Tumblr, Homestuck, and handheld Nintendo gaming. Upon retrospection, I only festered in my own mind and grew more and more toxic the more I walked the path of the "ideal person" when it wasn't me; I wanted to run but I couldn't, but I kept walking because it was the only way I knew to get out. "The Rhyme" fucks with me the most because I felt so personally attacked at the monologue during the bridge. Part of me felt that It WAS me, and that I could only bide my time while I ruined many different budding friendships and grew spines towards my family each time I felt like I disappointed them, and each minor comment became a major comment that I had to harbor. Even at this time, I was in a not-so-healthy relationship and I could only run from it. My parents didn't even know I had one, let along a gay one. A good kid only looks like a good kid because they're so good at hiding things away from the world and lying to survive. This continued even into college. I only made it this far, not because I was afraid of death, but I was afraid of hurting. I think that I was suicidal, but developed that into nihilism the more I came to respect and come to terms with the finite nature of life, but still feared the feeling of pain in any sense. I wanted to stop hurting but I didn't want to die, so everyday was a challenge to slog through. No one would intimately come to know this side of me because I was always my happiest with the people that loved me for who I was.
It was only that, through early college, rather recently, that I started detaching myself from who people thought I was and pushed to be who I am. There were many conflicts and tension between me and my family. Honestly, 2018-2020 was the time in where self-healing and recovery was the most bolstered and "mainstreamed" it had ever been. I even pushed myself to try and study psychology because I wanted to be a therapist; its possible I chased this because I wanted to learn how to "fix and save" myself. I have a decent relationship with my parents, and I see them as decent people now that I'm older and came to understand the way they parented me, although it felt like mental torment that I dared not utter to anyone other than myself. Despite all that, I find myself the most detached from my family, and not for no reason (despite my family being human and having it's own set of baggage that I have to inherit in my personal growth). At one point, I came out to my mother, the only one that I had truly loved in my family. While she accepts me, she does not really accept me for being gay or being in a gay relationship. She does not intervene, but that sort of acceptance only really felt like a back hand from the only person I could seek motherly solitude with. I don't hate her, I hate the things she does, but she's still the only one I care for in my family. "Strangers" messes me up the most because of this; that I only want I have is to feel that acceptance and to feel needed, missed, or wanted. Life's goal does not tickle my fancy anymore because I don't feel they identify me anymore. At one point, the bridge to my most intimate self has been burned off to so many people, and I struggle to maintain it even with the people I love the most in my life (my closest friends and long-distance lover).
Part of me feels that I am still stuck in Jack's 'Rhyme', and all I want is to reach those 'Butterflies' as I learn more about who I really am, but lack the experiences that typical queer people have. I have nothing, but I think that I am still content with life enough to wait, even when I've already waited for 24 years to find solidarity, and to be like rest. There's a truly tragic side to individuality when I crave intimacy. Until now, I fixate on "The Rhyme" trying to find a reason. It is my favorite song in this album, maybe for superficial reasons, but maybe also for deeper, psychological reasons. I only found this album a couple months ago but I love it for what it offers me in introspection. I'd like to think that I've become more accepting of the fact that no one cares whether or not I mature sooner or later. I was slow to mature, and it took a lot in me to say that I was OK with that. I don't know if I will ever overcome my demons, but I am fine with living with them until I feel freed one day.
Not many people will read this, probably. But, I hope that my life experience resonates with those who want that solidarity knowing that their experience is shared. Life is a journey of self-reflection and learning who you are and what you love. It can take a very long time or a very short time. I can only hope that your greatest enemy isn't yourself, because it's the worst enemy to have in my experience. Embrace your darkness so that you might walk with it, and maybe then you can move on and grow into the beautiful being that you really are. Even I'm still in that chrysalis, and everyone emerges eventually. There are many factors that can force someone to not be their true self. I can only hope that they find their time soon, when they are ready.

  • @nvmitsmarcel

Feel like there is a story with these songs. In Untitled, he comes out and gets rejected by family. After that, he falls in love with a guy in Butterflies. Their relationship doesn't last so they breakup in Sorry Jack. They miss each other but they don't want to end in failure hence Strangers. The protagonist is depressed and getting bullied in The Rhyme. He is not well mentally and emotionally so he commits suicide.

    • @smolnerdtheartist6239

      MarcelJustPlaysStuff
That actually makes a lot of sense.
But it doesn't explain the female voice in strangers.
I'm not trying to be rude I also missed out that part.
I just would like to know what that part means to you

    • @bluethecat9547

      trans female maybe?

    • @nvmitsmarcel
      @nvmitsmarcel 7 років тому

Some gay males have female like voices. That could explain it.

    • @jdcapistrano1617
      @jdcapistrano1617 7 років тому +12

No its in order, i think?
Sorry Jack - jack was in a relationship, then the girl dumped him
The Rhyme - he got bullied at school since he got dumped, and attempted to suicide but didnt succeed
Butterflies - he met someone new, preferably a male
Untitled - Jack comes out to his parents that he is gay
Strangers - jack (and his girl from b4) remembers their relationships and wants to forgets it, and to be strangers

    • @ecstaticfur4411
      @ecstaticfur4411 7 років тому +2

Another explanation is that in Sorry Jack is him not being able to get a girl and The Rhyme is him getting bullied because he's single. Then in Butterflies he falls in love with a guy, and in Untitled he comes out to his family and they don't get it. Then Strangers is him and his mom reminiscing over her kicking him out for him being gay, and although they still love each other they don't think that it'll ever work out. That also explains the female voice in Strangers better than the gay males have feminine voices.

Sorry Jack: about a relationship that never came to be & crush struggle.
    The Rhyme: Suicide,pain,intimidation,& self-harm/suffering.
Untitled: Homosexuality,Pansexuality,& Bisexuality, basically comin out the closet & parents refusin the "man & man" relationship despite "men" is used to describe "human race" in some terms. So...meh.
Strangers: about two people whom met then had a great friendship/relationship that ended up in their separation & they barely speak nowadays, they've become strangers like how they first met.
    Butterflies: about teenage love,excitement,thrill rides,partying,& relationship/friendship.

some one 3 years ago on the stranges single on you tube said this:
I know I might be wrong but...
This album, Scratch21, sounds like a story.
Let's say we begin with "The Rhyme".
A song of a boy who is being bullied. Bullied so hard that he thought it was the end...
    Up next.. "Butterflies".
A song of the same boy, who falls in love with a girl. He tries to make her stay and do everything he can.
    Next up. "Sorry Jack"
A song that tells pretty much, that the girl isn't interested. A song that shows, that for the girl, the boy didn't try enough.
    Moving forward
    "Untitled"
A song by the "same" boy. Song tells us that the boy got free. He got over it. He didn't care about "her" anymore.
    And lastly, "Strangers"
The last song, that proves that actually... Neither of them were free. They both missed each other. Even the "girl" says in the song "Everything we loved together. It's not the same without you there."
Even that shows, that the girl still cared. And the "boy" is so obvious...

    • @infurgent2708
      @infurgent2708 4 роки тому

      "Untitled" is about coming out
I think there's a story here, but I'm not sure about the exact way it is pieced together.
