  • Robotron: 2084 (also referred to as Robotron) is an arcade video game developed by Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar of Vid Kidz and released by Williams Electronics (part of WMS Industries) in 1982. It is a shoot 'em up with two-dimensional graphics. The game is set in the year 2084 in a fictional world where robots have turned against humans in a cybernetic revolt. The aim is to defeat endless waves of robots, rescue surviving humans, and earn as many points as possible.

    This was the first game I ever worked on back in '97! Good times.
    Fun fact: You can use two N64 controllers at the same time, so you can use one joystick for moving and the other for shooting.

      +frogspasm2000 always love seeing workers pop up on videos from time to time - this would no doubt have been a fun game to work on

      May I ask you a question? Was it difficult programming for the N64?

      You can also play Goldeneye and Perfect Dark with a dual controller setup for two thumbsticks

      playing this with 2 controllers is the best thing ever,.. you miss out on so much just using the c-pad,.. literally, because it takes many angles away from you lol

    Purchased this game during the week for 10euro. Looking forward to playing it now after this review. I never heard of this game until I start trying to collect all PAL region n64 titles. My favourite console of all time. Looks like a fun game.

    You don't hear many people talking about the N64. Def getting a subscribe from me, I really enjoyed this console growing up and the graphical style now has a total charm for me. great console, great reviews.

      Thank you, yeah I'm purely n64 and you are right...I'm one of the few covering it. I prefer to look at games etc that weren't the ones everyone remembers so I often don't do the big titles still

    Can't believe I didn't know about Robotron until recently. Good time. This version is what a "modern" arcade port should be like... gameplay is exactly like the 1982 arcade, no bullshit.

    I remember playing this game for what felt like hours with my uncle when I was a kid. Then one day he picked up a multi-game arcade cabinet for his basement that had the original on it, which was my introduction to a ton of classic titles.
    He passed away from a brain tumor a couple of years back. Revisiting this really makes me miss those simpler days.

    it's good to see someone talk about this game! i have always really enjoyed this one, but it always seems to go forgotten by alot of people. if you ever get the chance, try robotron 2084 on the 7800. i would say thats my favorite robotron game, just barely beating this one. keep up the great videos man!

    Robotron 64 was an excellent game. While the two player mode was fairly lacking, it was still fun to see who could get the farthest. Also the bosses were ridiculous and each must have cost me around 15-20 lives. Good fun.

    I remember the Christmas I got this game. I had never heard of the original or this iteration until that day. We didn't have a lot of money when I was a child and my parents had to save months in order for me to have this title. I played it to death. Over 200 levels and hours of arcade style fun. I loved it. Although I got frustrated around 170 mark with the levels.

    Just made my first ever subscription!
    I have the same N64 console my parents gave me as a birthday gift back in 1997, and to this day I still enjoy playing the old games together with a few newcomers. Really appreciate the great work on your UA-cam channel. The N64 was a big part of my childhood, so watching your videos constantly brings me back in a nostalgic way. Once again thank you for an amazing job!
    P.S. Would you mind making a review of Gauntlets Legends?

    Probably one of the games who gave me on of the best arcades nostalgia. But unfortunately the game wasn't so quite well sold in Europe. And in conclusion i'm agree with you about the game capacity. They could give him more strength to the game hardware. A must to reminds the 80's.

    Back in the late 90s people didn't go for retro or 2D games, so I doubt this sold very much. I certainly wasn't interested in it - all I cared for were graphical intense and original playing titles which pushed the system to its limits. Interesting how retro gaming became popular again a decade later...

    This N64 version is a port of the PlayStation game "Robotron X", that was released two years earlier. It's almost exactly the opposite of what happened to "Space Station Silicon Valley" which was later ported to PlayStation as "Evo's Space Adventure". "Space Station Silicon Valley" was great but the side scrolling Game Boy Color version of 'SSSV', was like the PS1 'Evo' game only released in Europe. :-(

    I remember when this game came out. I wasn't the slightest bit impressed with it. I scoffed that the visuals and simplistic gameplay and had never played the arcade original at that time. I have since then played the arcade original and I didn't get very attached to it. However I did pick Robotron 64 up just recently for only 2 bucks and have to agree that the N64 remake is much more exciting and fun over the original. The game really starts to rail on you past level 60.

    This looks ok. It's pretty much what i would expect for robotron but i feel like on the n64 they could have atleast came up with some larger levels and new modes on top of just having the classic one with new graphics.
    Do you know if this game has an end or is it just one of those games that keeps going forever?

  • @davy_K
    @davy_K 11 років тому

    very fond of the one. The key is that it feels like the original to play. Only issue for me is that a game can last a bit too long for the style of gameplay.

  • @TheCodedtestament
    @TheCodedtestament 10 років тому +1

    This game has almost no replay value. It's also a lot easier than the original, I never was able to get past level 10 of the original and I was able to clear this whole game of over 100 levels.
